In attempt on building tolerance among religious communities, there are four questioning points that need to be dealt with: 1) what is the religious tolerance? 2) what are the causes for the arising of religious intolerance? 3) what is our response in facing intolerance acts from other religious communities? 4) what are our contributions in creating tolerance, unity, peace and harmony in the midst of religious diversity. This research attempts to discuss this subject matter comprehensively with reference to Buddhist’s canonical literature, with its main aim for educating Buddhist minority in Indonesia on the importance of religious tolerance. The education is greatly needed for two main reasons. The first reason is to make Buddhists minority in Indonesia understand clearly the Buddhist attitude on religious tolerance, thereby they would behave themselves wisely towards followers of other religions. Secondly, it is an attempt to protect them from violence or harassment that might be assaulted from other parties. For, by knowing how to deal and act wisely towards other religious communities, besides that they have taken part in creating tolerance and peace, they are actually protecting themselves. The idea is that protecting others, they protect themselves. From the study it is found that the violence in the society on the name of religion often happens due to the lack of tolerance among religious communities. Education on religious tolerance should be given to Buddhists in Indonesia to prevent other religious communities from treating Buddhists with intolerance, violence or harassment.","PeriodicalId":31097,"journal":{"name":"Walisongo Jurnal Penelitian Sosial Keagamaan","volume":"28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87425460","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The violent conflict was mentioned in various mass media because of a protest of a Tionghoa woman to her neighbor about the call to prayer from the mosque in front of her house grew louder. After the open conflict in Tanjung Balai, the media has a very important role in building positive relations or also dividing the community in negative relationships between religious communities, reporting in print and online media has always been a reference for people who believe in the truth of the news. The article, believed to be the work of journalism, was then copied and distributed by some people through social media; WhatsApp, Facebook, etc. Then the writer tries to analyze the role of the media through its reporting in building relations between Muslims and Buddhists in Tanjung Balai after the open conflict in July 2016. This analysis uses a media framing approach. In analyzing the role of the media, the three media play more a role of a mirror of events in society and the world, implying a faithful reflection and the role of the window of events and experience. The role of filters is played more in the interests of the media, not in the interests of peace and relations between Islam and Buddhism going forward. For this reason, it is important to do mass media literacy and social media aimed at improving media skills that must be mastered by the community, improving lives and improving the lives of individuals who are mostly exposed to various kinds of information.\u0000","PeriodicalId":31097,"journal":{"name":"Walisongo Jurnal Penelitian Sosial Keagamaan","volume":"63 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82357452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This style of investigation is qualitative with descriptive analysis. This study's data gathering methods included observation, interviews, and documentation. Five teachers of the Kusala Citta Buddhist Sunday School and three representatives of Kusala Citta Buddhist Sunday School students provided the data for this research. The findings of this research indicate that students are inactive participants in the learning process due to the low implementation of instructional patterns. At Kusala Citta Buddhist Sunday School, the traditional teaching pattern and the technological teaching pattern are often used as instructional strategies. In conducting the examination of teaching patterns at Kusala Citta Buddhist Sunday School, the significance of curricular guidance in the implementation of learning was determined. The curriculum is the teacher's primary instructional base. Before teaching, the teacher must create a Learning Implementation Plan to make it simpler for them to establish patterns, approaches, and strategies. Students become learning centers throughout the learning process so they may explore their potential, perfect their abilities, and communicate their views. In order to inspire Buddhist Sunday School students to think critically and prudently, teachers must be able to create an engaging learning environment. Benqing monk's record who traveled from one temple to another in providing services for people in temples or Mahayana Buddhist was possible to be traced. In addition, role of Dizang Yuan in Jakarta to educate the \"flower monks\" as prayers. Even the role of spreading Buddhism through symbols could be seen in various temples. Throughout history many have spoken of the various negative consequences economically, psychologically, and socially experienced by children and wives in polygamous families. But in general the narrative positions women as victims so that it does not provide a perspective of empowered women who have the power to manage their family conflicts by showing the quality of their leadership in the family and community. With content analysis, this paper examines women's biographical novels from two different religious and social backgrounds. With content analysis, this paper examines women's biographical novels from two different religious and social backgrounds. First, a collection of stories Menunggu Papa: Kisah Gadis Kecil yang Akhirnya Berdamai dengan Dirinya, which is a collection of inspiring stories based on the autobiography of Yanah Sucintani, which tells the inner journey of a child from a Chinese-Buddhist family whose father practices polygamy. Second, the novel titled Athirah by Alberthiene Endah, which is a biography of Jusuf Kalla, which tells the story of the mother's leadership in a polygamous family set in the Muslim-Bugis-Makassar society. This study has important meaning in encouraging a positive image of women as whole human beings, developing personally and contributing to society. This positive role needs to be raised more especially as a counter culture of women's representation in the world of entertainment and popular culture which widely accommodates the female stereotype. Both of these inspirational stories teach that indeed the financial independence of a polygamous mother is the initial way to be able to rule over herself and her children, but it requires persistent spirituality to be able to establish themselves as wives and mothers and lay the foundation of mentality for their children.","PeriodicalId":31097,"journal":{"name":"Walisongo Jurnal Penelitian Sosial Keagamaan","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90445805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It employs qualitative research in the form of case studies and interpretive methods. Data collection involves observation and interviews, with the analytical theory of indicators of religious moderation in Indonesia. The findings revealed several indicators of religious moderation in the mentioned cultures. Firstly, Sipakatau culture demonstrates tolerance and the accommodation of local values, as seen in socio-political life, emphasizing respect for political differences and upholding deliberation. Secondly, Sipakainge’ culture is committed to national values, evident through community compliance with village regulations and educational activities aligned with national education orientation. Lastly, the value of humanism is observed in the internalization of Sipakalebbi culture, as reflected in village government policies that empower individuals with disabilities. Theoretical implications suggest that religious moderation can be integrated into local wisdom through socio-political, educational, and cultural activities. However, the study’s limitations include not examining obstacles or challenges in mainstreaming religious moderation within the Sipakatau, Sipakainge’, and Sipakalebbi cultures in Mallari Village.","PeriodicalId":31097,"journal":{"name":"Walisongo Jurnal Penelitian Sosial Keagamaan","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44820476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Qualitative research applied in this study gathered from case studies using a phenomenological approach. Data came from in-depth observation, interviews, and documentation. The theory of social construction formulated by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann became the basic theory of analysis. The results showed that the social construction of Islam in the Shi’a community in Pekalongan City was formed through externalization, objectivization, and internalization. The process of externalization through the dissemination of knowledge of Shi’a teachings, as well as about the specialty of Ahl al-Bayt in the religious authority of Muslims. Objectivization happened according to Shi’a teaching habituation moderately, responding to the plurality of understandings and social attitudes of the Muslim religion. The internalization process went with awareness to not apply the teachings of taqiyyah. In addition, the availability to live in harmony thrives on maintaining the integration of state life in Indonesia. The theoretical implications of this study show that theological inclusivism can form moderate and open religious social understandings and attitudes in the plurality of religious life. The qualitative data of this study were obtained from studies on documents and interviews with sources from Catholics, Muslims, and Protestants living in Larantuka. This study was conducted between January and June 2021. The researcher drew three conclusions from this study. First, Larantuka residents are open to accepting and acknowledging the presence of other religions besides Catholicism. Other religions are given the liberty to express their faith in Larantuka. Second, the Nostra Aetate document has been practiced, albeit not perfectly. The spirit of rivalry that grew among Catholics in the past is turning into a spirit of dialogue. Third, the “tulun talin\" spirit, the Lamaholot customs and habits of supporting those in need or helping each other, which are the cultural background of the Larantuka people, serves as a way for the people to express the spirit of equal reciprocity among religious believers in Larantuka which Nostra Aetate inspired.
