This paper presents the capabilities of Educational Data Mining (EDM), specifically the use of Association Rule Mining and Pattern Discovery, in the context of a Higher Educational Institute. Real student data comprising of parameters such as class performance, note taking, attention and self-making of assignments have been collected and examined to uncover associations that have been presented in this paper. It was found that student class performance is directly influenced by the attention given to a lecture, proper note-taking and the tendency to self-solve assignments.","PeriodicalId":310777,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Multi-Topic ICT Conference (IMTIC)","volume":"147 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134198975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The hybrid cloud services are measured based on the Quality of Service parameters defined by the public cloud vendors. These parameters (i.e. availability, scalability, latency etc.) vary from vendor-to-vendor, developing complexity and confusion on the grounds of methods of service assessments. A Cloud Service Level Agreement (SLA) lists the QoS provisions to be provided to the tenant, the objectives, and exclusions. Regardless of vendors promised uptimes and service metrics, the tenants are susceptible to the following threats: data governance, Denial of Services, multi-tenancy, etc. Cloud computing has often been compared as a utility, but the basic different between a utility and the cloud is the amount of risk involved with data protection, provisioning and control. Few cloud standards have been developed for standardizing the hybrid cloud model but since each public cloud vendor provides different applications and services, these standards do not resolve the existing cloud QoS issue. Since each enterprise implementing the cloud and vendor supplying the services is diverse, a customized Trio (Cloud-IT-Business) QoS model is required to resolve the business need. The authors have designed a model to resolve this existing cloud QoS issue, the abstraction of the model is detailed in this paper.","PeriodicalId":310777,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Multi-Topic ICT Conference (IMTIC)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126098717","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Demand Side Management (DSM) performs an important role in SG to minimize electricity charges on users side and reduce the stress and cost of electricity generation on the utility side. In smart homes, the Home Energy Management System (HEMS) deployed to enhance the energy utilization of the smart appliances. The objective is to depreciate the customer’s electricity bill and tackle real-time users interrupts. The uncertainties associated with user interrupts tackled through coordination among appliances. Coordination among appliances formulated as a game and appliances act as a player. Simulation results validate the proposed approach is better than existing algorithms in reducing cost and PAR.","PeriodicalId":310777,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Multi-Topic ICT Conference (IMTIC)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127764907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many texture features used for this method such as Local Binary Pattern, Harlick features etc. Most of the manuscripts are utilizing combination of other features with texture features and then classification algorithms. We have modified the texture features with the inclusion of harlick features of gray level co-occurrence matrix for ethnicity detection. These features are extracted from the segmented skin image. Also for texture features, effect of Bagging along with Random trees is highlighted to carry out efficient classification. We have performed evaluation of past texture features and our proposed texture feature method.","PeriodicalId":310777,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Multi-Topic ICT Conference (IMTIC)","volume":"102 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120884646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It produces an enormous amount of data that is considered as great source of data for knowledge discovery. The purpose of this research is to quantitatively illustrate the potential of social media in educating students of higher secondary schools, colleges or universities. The real data of students belonging to considered education levels has been collected. Two parallel methods have been applied: 1) statistical analysis of collected data and 2) knowledge discovery through data-driven approaches. It has been explored and quantitatively demonstrated that timings of social media usage, number of hours spent, social media activities, and other factors have influential role towards academic activities of students. Further, it has been also revealed that educational activities can be promoted through social media to attract students as they spend a major portion of their time on social activities.","PeriodicalId":310777,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Multi-Topic ICT Conference (IMTIC)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131214927","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents an automated mechanism to recognise Muslims’ prayer (Salat) using the tri-axial accelerometer available in current smartphones. Different activities in the prayers are performed in pre-defined pattern, and all the participants move from one state to another at the same time in a congregation prayer. The accelerometer is first used to collect time series data as input, which is then processed to remove redundancy. This clean processed data is then analysed to recognise not only the individual prayer pattern but also the common pattern in group prayer using dynamic time warping. Promising results are demonstrated through experiments where the prayer activity is correctly recognized while other activities such as walking are classified as non-prayer patterns.","PeriodicalId":310777,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Multi-Topic ICT Conference (IMTIC)","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122694813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is lesser number of schools for special children with only primary education utilizing traditional methods for Braille communication. People are deprived of getting into schools due to distant areas, minimum transport facilities and expensive fees. Traditional systems are difficult to use and time-consuming. In contrast, modern systems utilize electronic methods for user-friendly and easier communication but are expensive. This paper implements a cost-effective Braille framework using hardware prototype with specifically designed software application running on teacher’s server/PC. Student enters Braille characters, which are converted into English and displayed on software application. The software application maintains and updates an automatic database for each student. Data can be accessed by teacher on server/PC. Entered Braille Characters can be printed via printer/embosser. Data can also be heard on headphones, interfaced with each Braille prototype. The over-all cost of our system remains affordable and also gives young children an opportunity to cope with technical advancements. The system was tested in \"National Special Education Complex\" in Karachi, Pakistan on 30 blind students from Class 1 to 5. Their performance is evaluated on the basis of score, speed and occurrence of errors. The results show significant improvements using our system over traditional systems.","PeriodicalId":310777,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Multi-Topic ICT Conference (IMTIC)","volume":"719 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133437099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It not only makes it possible for people to be informed about their loved ones but also gives them the facility to request their friends or family members to perform a task on behalf of them or alert them about some incident. In order to increase the utility of the message, it must be delivered at right location and at right time. We propose a framework that makes fusion of smart devices, GPS and the IoT devices to find out the best possible location and time for delivering a message. The proposed framework allowed for three different types of messages (i-e: warning, review, request). Furthermore, we evaluated our framework with single and multiple recipient prototype application with two different environment settings(i-e: market and university) and found that application is making the messages more useful when received at the desired location and time.","PeriodicalId":310777,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Multi-Topic ICT Conference (IMTIC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131909621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method is based on a fuzzy inference system and the fuzzy c-means algorithm. The proposed technique efficiently segments apples that contain multiple colors. This work not only segments apple but also provides an initial observation to monitor the growth of an apple based on its color. For some types of apples, the color is green at the initial stage, then turns yellow, and followed by red when apples are ready for packaging. The fuzzy logic based processing technique robustly distinguishes between green, yellow, and red apples. The proposed technique is evaluated qualitatively by visually comparing the detection of a number of apples in three datasets. It is shown through evaluation that fuzzy logic-based image processing technique can effectively segment the apples under different challenging conditions.","PeriodicalId":310777,"journal":{"name":"2018 5th International Multi-Topic ICT Conference (IMTIC)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117315628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
