Our results indicate that users can be categorized into four different clusters according to their perception of benefits and risks associated with smartphone usage, i.e. ‘indifferent’, ‘benefit-oriented’, ‘ambivalent’ and ‘risk-oriented’ user groups. These clusters show statistically significant differences in terms of age, gender and smartphone usage as well as various privacy-related variables including privacy concerns, awareness for privacy threats, willingness to disclose personal information, trust towards providers of online services, and privacy protection behavior. Moreover, we identify factors that determine an individual’s propensity to employ privacy-protective responses. Our model can be used to predict users’ inclination to protect their online privacy based on the used operating system, their willingness to disclose personal information, reported privacy concerns, privacy literacy, and trust towards online companies.","PeriodicalId":310437,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125544026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With a health psychology perspective, we present a study to understand health and wellbeing-related practices of a group of popular, professional YouTubers from the audio-visual content they produce. We first identify, via polytextual thematic analysis, six thematic health-related categories, and use them to label a set of 2500 YouTube videos. Agreement among three independent annotators was acceptable for these health-related categories. We then present an analysis of speech transcriptions and visual content, demonstrating that distinctive patterns exist for these health-related categories. These include linguistic markers and specific scene types and objects. Finally, with an interpretability focus, we study the feasibility of classifying health-related video categories in a binary setting, and compare performance across features, finding best accuracy for linguistic features (74-87%), and various patterns of linguistic and visual relevance used for the classification of health categories. The results shows promise to support mixed-methods research in health psychology, combining manual analysis and data-driven methods. More generally, our work contributes to the understanding of current health practices shared and promoted on social video.","PeriodicalId":310437,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122312465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The domain we selected was cultural heritage, specifically the interaction with historical artefacts. We explored four interfaces: 1) a standard touch screen using a web 3D viewer, 2) a traditional flat AR marker, 3) a generic wooden cylinder, and 4) a 3D-printed replica of the digital artefact. Our results show that a 3D-printed replica represents the most realistic interaction method to manipulate artefacts in AR. However, we further found that using a generic object such as the cylinder can deliver a more immersive experience, offering an advantage over the standard touch screen and flat AR marker. As high-fidelity physical objects can be costly to produce. We argue that a more generic physical proxy is a feasible middle ground when 3D-printed replicas are not viable. We then discuss design opportunities for using generic objects to explore different artefacts in AR.","PeriodicalId":310437,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121104214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, we aim to tackle this issue by investigating a system concept that allows for the deployment of remote eye-trackers for mobile devices. We describe a toolkit that supports eye-tracking in mobile apps based on a simple phone, PC, and remote eye tracker setup. We evaluate our approach through a technical evaluation of accuracy and precision in various user contexts important for mobility (sitting, standing, walking, lying). Our results show that eye-trackers can be easily used with high accuracy, and how it is impacted through body posture and motions of the user. Our work paves the way for enabling easy-to-use eye-tracking studies on mobile devices.","PeriodicalId":310437,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132920478","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Myriads of application scenarios have been proposed and toolkits, as well as procedures, have been presented to the research community. While these individual explorations provide a benefit to the research community, the overarching view on the topic is still unclear which helps to understand how such technology can be used in the future. To tackle this, we conduct a systematic literature survey of research utilizing EMS as a wearable output method. We investigate the published research (N = 151) by analyzing the EMS systems’ setup, calibration, and evaluation. We create a taxonomy of the application scenarios that categorize them along two dimensions (i.e., (1) action <> perception and (2) augmentation <> induction). Further, we distill open research challenges from our results that can help to stimulate and guide research on EMS in the future.","PeriodicalId":310437,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130194765","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We investigate how people make sense of Birdbox, a crossmodal data representation that employs combined haptic-audio, audio-visual, or visual-haptic output for data about birds. Findings indicate that participants preferred haptic output for the bodily experience it triggered. Participants further created their own mappings between data and modality; haptic was mapped to aggression, and audio to speed. Especially with (soft) haptic output, Birdbox was experienced as a living entity. This can also be seen in participants’ bodily interactions, holding Birdbox as if it were a small bird. We contribute to a better understanding of the UX of different modalities in multisensory data representations, highlight strengths of the haptic modality, and of metaphorical understandings of modalities.","PeriodicalId":310437,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114170804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Besides the controlled exposure to stimuli, VR systems enable a more efficient and unbiased gathering of information with practical applications in diagnosis, intervention, and health monitoring processes. Nonetheless, scientific literature has demonstrated that interacting with VR technology and its peripherals can be challenging, especially in populations less familiar with technology (e.g., older adults) or with clinical conditions that are not adequately accommodated by the technology, such as cognitive (e.g., dementia) or physical impairments (e.g., blindness). This workshop will focus on systems, technological approaches, and theoretical frameworks to develop user/patient-centred VR tools for diagnosis, intervention, and monitoring of health and wellbeing outcomes. Moreover, we welcome work focused on accessibility issues, aiming to promote equal access and opportunity to use VR tools by people with diverse abilities.","PeriodicalId":310437,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129371469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For example, online teaching might reveal lecturers’ private environment to students or business meetings might provide insights about employees’ family relationships. This raises the need to understand users’ perception towards privacy intrusion during online video conferences to inform concepts that better protect meeting participants’ privacy. We present the results of an online survey (N = 140) in which we investigate user stories of privacy-invasive situations in their homes during such meetings. Our results show that online meetings reveal private information that would not have become available during physical meetings. This often involves third parties (e.g., children, spouse, colleague), who might not even be aware of this. We discuss potential means to support users in protecting their and others’ privacy before, during, and after video-based online meetings.","PeriodicalId":310437,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123856981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the same time, the number of authentications that a user needs to perform increases, as nowadays devices such as smart TVs require authentication which was not the case in earlier times. Even for single-person households, the need to authenticate against present smart devices in the environment appears at regular intervals, ranging from TVs to voice assistants, to gaming consoles. To reduce the need for repeated authentication, we explore the concept of a system that allows the sharing of users’ authenticated identity information between smart devices, similar to the concept of Single-Sign-On on the internet. Following a preliminary field study, we show that such a system can decrease the number of necessary authentications in a ubiquitous computing environment by 84.4%, increasing usability and security.","PeriodicalId":310437,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124695705","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A simple daily mobile phone reminder may be enough to restore some of their self-care. In this study, we explore the effects of reminders in the lives of informal caregivers, specifically in the Mindful Self-Care Scale subdomains. We found positive effects in the Supportive Relationships and the Mindful Relaxation subdomains with medium effects. Despite not being statistically significant, the Mindful Awareness and the Self-Compassion and Purpose subdomains have low enough p-values for us to argue that they may create positive effects if coupled with extra call-to-action features. This should be explored in future studies. The Supportive Structure subdomain seems to have no relation or be affected in any relevant way by the reminders.","PeriodicalId":310437,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133436979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
