This study investigated the implementation of the InShot application in creating digital multimodal notices. Moreover, it explored the strengths and weaknesses of the InShot app applied as the learning media in composing digital multimodal notices. The study used qualitative design (a case study) involving 27 students studying at a junior high school in West Java. Observations, open-ended questionnaires, and documents were applied to the data collection. The result shows that implementing the InShot app gives EFL learners optimal stimulus in composing digital multimodal notices and developing their writing skills. It is manifested in their composition of digital multimodal notices reflecting complete generic structure, correct linguistic features, and matching images expressing the full meanings of the notices. Besides, they show positive responses. In this case, they are excited and interested in composing digital multimodal notices using the Inshot app. They combined appropriate colours, fonts, and backgrounds to create the meanings of the notices. The Inshot app facilitates learners to integrate the meanings presented in verbal, visual, and audio modes harmoniously, so the purpose of the notices is complete. However, learners with less digital literacy need help integrating the appropriate modes in composing digital multimodal notices.","PeriodicalId":30946,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian EFL Journal Journal of ELT Linguistics and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78383995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately, the conversation quickly changed in a virtual classroom because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Quizizz is well-known for effectively facilitating remote learning as a learning platform that provides various features. This project will use Quizizz as a substitute for traditional lectures for students in non-English departments. The Quizizz platform in this study's descriptive qualitative research approach provides a deep discussion on the use of the Quizizz platform in creating interactive remote lecturing. Quizizz was found highly beneficial and engaging for many students, and they strongly supported utilizing it in other disciplines. It is also important to highlight that the students' improved motivation to learn English was aided by their increased Quizizz engagement. Furthermore, this platform specifically increased student involvement in online English education, notably for students not enrolled in the English Department. Finally, despite the outbreak, providing Quizizz to students positively affected them. Students still find motivation and enthusiasm in virtual interactive learning experiences through Quizizz.","PeriodicalId":30946,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian EFL Journal Journal of ELT Linguistics and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79908189","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to explore various approaches in identifying research gaps that have the potential to become elements of novelty. By using a grounded theory approach, the research reconstructs the cognitive experiences of a number of Indonesian expert authors in identifying research gaps. The results show that scientific journals as the primary source are accessed from the subscription data center; discuss and conduct knowledge sharing with expert groups; bibliography mapping by establishing a basic reference to avoid getting out of the focus of the research topic; state of the art and novelty elements will be seen from the extensive reading; using software to synthesize the literature review. It concludes that the research gap as the forerunner of the novelty element can only be done through an extensive reading process. Through extensive reading allows researchers or scientific writers to find many research gaps that can be explored.","PeriodicalId":30946,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian EFL Journal Journal of ELT Linguistics and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85924306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the study in translation is annotated translation. Jenny William and Andrew Chesterman reveal annotated translation is a translation with commentary. In this research, the researchers are challenged to know her ability in transferring Indonesian document, “Peraturan Gubernur Jawa Tengah No. 11 Tahun 2017”, a regulation of Central Java Governor to English by using annotated translation. This document contains an important information about fulfilling disabled people rights in Central Java. The researchers applied Larson’s theory in rendering the document. The translation process can be explored into 8 steps, those are preparation, analysis, transfer, initial draft, reworking initial draft, testing, polishing, and preparing the manuscript for the publisher. However, the researchers combined the processes by adding Agus Sri Giyanti’s own procedures as she is a visually impaired translator who was involved in this research. The procedures are converting the data and comprehending the text. This research also examines the classification of disability terminologies and their techniques used in translating the terms in order to establishing acceptable translation. In order to analyze the data, the researchers applied introspective and retrospective methodology. Introspective methodology is a method which is almost similar to the introspection of personal work. A retrospective study examines the factors of a causing problem by looking backward from the beginning of the study. This study firstly, aims at giving explanation for the disability terms on the Pergub Jawa Tengah No. 11 Tahun 2017. Secondly, to evaluate the ability of researcher in translating Indonesian regulation into English naturally. Last, since one of the researchers is a visually impaired translator, hopefully this study may provide some information on how the novice translator with visual impairment could translate Indonesian text into the English one independently.","PeriodicalId":30946,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian EFL Journal Journal of ELT Linguistics and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76935545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was carried out using descriptive qualitative research and descriptive analysis design. In this study, data were triangulated through observation and documentation. The study's targets were English teachers, and the transcribed data was divided into three categories of language functions. Holmes' concept is applied to classify speech functions. There are three types of utterance functions: expressive, imperative, and referential. The results showed that out of 60 speech functions, the directive function was applied by instructors the most frequently, accounting for 31 of them (51.66%). Directive one is the main reason, as it delivers interaction by directing and requesting the student. The study recommends that there are still many types of speech functions, but alternatively, directives are more prominent. Other researchers can gather data from many sources, including Instagram's English-language account, an English newspaper or magazine, and many more. The current study encourages English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers to complete a task and determine an assignment for future research. Given the implications of directive functions for English teachers in teaching speaking skills and the ability to inquire about something and command and request learners to perform something.","PeriodicalId":30946,"journal":{"name":"Indonesian EFL Journal Journal of ELT Linguistics and Literature","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80271731","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
