Accordingly, we conducted experiments on designing secure spaces in public work environments where users can handle personal information with reassurance. The first experiment considers the effects of partition size (\"height\" and \"depth\") on user reassurance. The second experiment assesses how the safe separation distance was affected by the type of personal information and the presence or absence of a partition that was sufficiently high to conceal the screen. The method utilizes the characteristics of almost strict positive realness (ASPR) of the plant so that the stability of the adaptive PID control system is guaranteed by the use of K-Y lemma and Lyapunov's stability theorem. An application of the proposed design concept to a practical design of tracking PID control system is also discussed. Usually the ASPRness of the controlled plant is attained by introducing an auxiliary subsystem called parallel feedforward compensator (PFC). Up to this time, the design of above-stated PFC has contained a very troublesome procedure. To improve such a situation, a very simple and effective PFC design method is proposed here. The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method is examined through simulations by comparing it with other conventional PID controller parameter tuning rules based on the first order with time delay process model","PeriodicalId":309260,"journal":{"name":"2006 SICE-ICASE International Joint Conference","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128189884","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Double-deck elevators, where two elevators are connected with each other, serve passengers at two consecutive floors simultaneously. Double-deck elevator systems (DDES) become more complex in their behavior than conventional single-deck elevator systems (SDES). Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) technology has been used in such complex systems. Genetic network programming (GNP), a graph-based evolutionary method, has been applied to EGSCS and its advantages are shown in some papers. GNP can obtain the strategy of a new hall call assignment to the optimal elevator when it performs crossover and mutation operations to judgment nodes and processing nodes. Meanwhile, destination floor guidance system (DFGS) is installed in DDES, so that passengers can also input their destinations at elevator halls. In this paper, we have applied GNP to DDES and compared DFGS with normal systems. The waiting time and traveling time of DFGS are all improved because of getting more information from DFGS. The simulations showed the effectiveness of the double-deck elevators with DFGS in different building traffics","PeriodicalId":309260,"journal":{"name":"2006 SICE-ICASE International Joint Conference","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127202468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the recent years, the research field on smart environments, which is a space with many embedded and networked sensors, has been expanding. Such a system should have flexibility and scalability so that we can easily add, remove or replace devices depending on the size of the space, application, technological advances, and so on. One of the major problems when setting up the devices is a calibration of the sensors. In order to reduce this, we utilize color markers installed on a mobile robot to calibrate distributed vision sensors. The mobility of mobile robots allows us to cover wide areas of the environment without placing many landmarks in the exact positions beforehand. The position and orientation of the mobile robot are estimated from wheel encoder and an ultrasonic 3D positioning system measurement data using Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). Automated camera calibration is performed based on the positions of the color markers in world coordinate system and their corresponding points in image coordinate system. Experimental result shows the validity of this method.","PeriodicalId":309260,"journal":{"name":"2006 SICE-ICASE International Joint Conference","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131695415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the energy in the haptic system is not directly measurable, but estimated from some measured quantities such as force and velocity; therefore, the estimated energy is occasionally inaccurate. Furthermore, haptic stability is difficult to observe by the energy-based approach for complicated virtual environments. To resolve this problem, a new observer, called a haptic stability observer, is proposed in this research. The empirical investigation of unstable haptic interaction in the frequency domain showed that the typical unstable behavior of a haptic system is different from random oscillations introduced by the hand motion of a human operator. The haptic stability observer working in the frequency domain quantifies the degree of instability of a haptic system. A double layered wall was implemented in the virtual environment to verify the validity of the HSO. Experimental results of the double layered wall show that the HSO is much faster than the passivity observer in detecting haptic instability","PeriodicalId":309260,"journal":{"name":"2006 SICE-ICASE International Joint Conference","volume":"134 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124257232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a known fact that when a closed-loop system has a non-minimum phase zero, the output displays an inverse response before tracking the desired trajectory. This imposes limitations to the transient performance. In this paper, we consider a servo system for a SISO plant having only one non-minimum phase zero. We first characterize the achievable closed-loop system. Based on the characterization and the tracking condition, we show for some combinations of degree and relative degree of the closed-loop system that the admissible location of poles is restricted. For these cases, we provide a quantitative measure for the limitation of the constrained poles. Besides poles, we also show that zeros are constrained and that the number of NMP zeros must be increased in some cases. The latter suggests that it is necessary to worsen the transient performance by introducing additional non-minimum phase zeros into the system","PeriodicalId":309260,"journal":{"name":"2006 SICE-ICASE International Joint Conference","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121844292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
