The present study attempts to understand the role of negative parenting style on perceptions, such as the experience of pain and fear, using an experimental design. Twenty one participants were made to go through a measure of perceived parenting styles (MOPS), followed by a strenuous exercise activity in a competitive situation. They were then subjected to three fear stimulating videos and were asked to rate perceived fearfulness of videos. After 24 hours, they were requested to rate the pain they experienced over the previous 24 hours on the Numeric Pain Rating Scale. A positive pearson coefficient correlation was found between negative parenting style and pain perception. A similar positive correlation was found between negative parenting style and awareness of experience of fear. The relation between perception of fear and pain was found to be positive. Each correlation was followed by a t-test to test for significance. It was found that the triad of variables (parenting style, fear, pain) had a significant correlation with respect to all three relations. Since perception of pain and fear was more among those who were subjected to negative parenting style during their childhood days, it was concluded that childhood experiences with parents can have a significant impact on an individual's affective (fear) and cognition (pain perception) components of mental health. Moreover, fear may play a role in increasing the perception of pain. Clinical implications have been discussed.","PeriodicalId":308947,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research: THE BEDE ATHENÆUM","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124387723","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indian women today represented in workforce in bigger numbers than ever before. Wherein these roles demand a lot of time of women executives due to which work life balance becomes a challenging task. However, one who is able to balance work life is a winner. Despite their work position they hold, say, be it women managers, officers and clerical groups in their carrier they face common problems like work for extra hours to gain recognition, burden of dual role, refusal of men to accept women as seniors, sexual harassment in work place, continuous technology up-gradation and lack of solidarity among women which contributes to increasing stress among women employees in work place. We live in the age of adversity and to be successful in life one needs both capability and coping ability. This paper consist of literature review done in Indian context as well as Indian women living in foreign countries showing evidences that when they were more resilient they inculcate better coping abilities, which in turn reduce work stresses and dealing with work related issues more effectively.","PeriodicalId":308947,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research: THE BEDE ATHENÆUM","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130891634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sample for the present investigation consisted of 489 adolescents, aged 13–17 yrs, drawn from five urban schools of Punjab catering to the population of middle socio-economic status. Adolescents from these schools were screened for cyber bullying victimization to obtain a sample of around 48 cyber bullying victims. An equal number of adolescents were selected in the control group matched on significant aspects like age, sex, socio-economic status, parental education etc. Various psychological measures were administered to the adolescent participants for studying their relationship pattern with parents and peers. t-test was used to analyze the data. Results of the study revealed that cyber bullying victims were low on parental (mother and father) and peer attachment in comparison to adolescents in the control group. Cyber bullying victims exhibited lower levels of parental and peer trust and communication in comparison to their non cyber bullied counterparts. And they were found to be high on parental and peer alienation in comparison to their non cyber bullied counterparts.","PeriodicalId":308947,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research: THE BEDE ATHENÆUM","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130680894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While social scientists have primarily been concerned with post-traumatic stress disorder and its effects, little effort has been made to study their post-traumatic growth. Recently, the trend in research has been to identify how individuals and families are able to bounce-back. There are multiple pathways and sources to resilience (King et al., 1998; Luthar et al., 2000; Masten, 2001; Friborg et al., 2003), and recent attempts in resiliency research are being purported in this direction to unravel the psychosocial sources of resilience. Researchers (e.g., Carver, 1998) have highlighted the need to study how variables such as optimism, coping skills, social support, and spirituality may be related to resilience and growth following traumatic events. It was therefore, considered worthwhile to examine the role of learned optimism, proactive coping, social support, resilience, and spirituality towards post-traumatic growth of widowed and divorced mothers. It was also postulated to examine the contribution of two socio-demographic viz., perceived stress and socio-economic status variables towards post-traumatic growth in the present investigation. The sample comprised 166 single mothers (83 widowed mothers and 83 divorced mothers) in the age group of 28 to 40 years. They were all post-graduate, working women belonging to middle to upper middle class urban families of Punjab. Reported time of spousal loss was two to four years. Demographic variables of perceived stress and socio-economic status were also taken. The following tools were administered: The Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory, Learned Optimism Scale, The Proactive Coping Inventory, Social Provisions Scale, Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, The Expressions Of Spirituality Inventory-R, Perceived Stress Scale, and Socio-Economic Status Scale. Means, standard deviations and t-test were applied. As compared with divorced mothers, widows reported higher levels of post-traumatic growth (by and large), learned optimism, proactive coping, social support, and resilience. The two did not differ on perceived stress and spirituality, by and large. Thus, the findings reveal that such personal variables (e.g., proactive coping and resilience) can even undo the negative effects of stress, and promote growth post-trauma.","PeriodicalId":308947,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research: THE BEDE ATHENÆUM","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126718330","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This belt is very cold climate zones, having very steep hilly terrains with some forested patches of chilgoja pine, willow etc.. Keeping in view the intensive and extensive bioecological studies in the various physiographic conditions of this belt, various natural ecosystems/habitats like forests, grasslands and pastures, rivers, lakes and wetlands, human habitations etc., spread over different biogeographically zones were selected for the present studies. This belt was selected on the basis of certain logistics like time frame, resources and size of the area etc., so as to get the maximum data regarding butterflies diversity. These investigations mainly aimed at knowing the current status of butterflies in different habitats of this zone. In order to study the diversity and status in Greater Himalayan belt of Himachal Pradesh was explored for the presence of butterfly fauna in various ecosystems/habitats types, during different seasons of the years revealed the presence of 17 species of insects belonging to 15 genera and 6 families. During the course of present studies it was observed that Nymphalidae, represented by 6 species was the largest family followed by Satyridae & Pieridae 4 species each and Papilionidae, Danaidae & Acraeidae were represented by only one species each. Analysis of seasonal variation in the diversity of butterflies in different habitat of the areas revealed that maximum diversity has been recorded during pre and post monsoon periods. On the contrary, minimum diversity was seen during winter months of December and January respectively. The goal of systematic is to understand species, what they are and how they are related to reflect such relationships in a formal classification and to provide distinctive names for the group recognized.","PeriodicalId":308947,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research: THE BEDE ATHENÆUM","volume":"2012 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114754443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous studies have shown the effect of parenting style on academic self-efficacy and also achievement motivation. The effect of negative parenting style might extend its influence on adult work-life. This study, therefore, aims at understanding the role of negative parenting style on burnout and personal achievement among 100 corporate sector workers. A positive correlation was hypothesized between negative parenting style and burnout while a negative correlation was predicted between negative parenting style and personal achievement. Samples of 100 corporate workers were taken. A demographic data sheet, Maslach burnout scale (section A and C) and measure of parental style were administered to the sample. Results of Pearson coefficient correlation showed a significant relation between negative parenting style, burnout and personal achievement. Therefore, the style of parenting perceived by the child may have its long term effects on his/her work life late in adulthood. Hence, burnout can be resolved to a considerable extent by employing better parenting styles on the part of the parents, coupled with the respective companies encouraging an exercise regime, yoga, or other productive leisure and relaxation activities among their workers.","PeriodicalId":308947,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research: THE BEDE ATHENÆUM","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121584446","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
