The plate is assumed to be infinitely long with a small thickness, and the loading consists of in-plane longitudinal, transverse or biaxial tension applied at infinity. The lines joining the centers of the holes form a triangle with sides that vary in length in order to study the influence of the holes proximity to each other on the stress field in the plate and on the stress concentration around the contour of any one of the holes. Furthermore, the finite element model is intended to corroborate results from an analytical method that the authors have previously developed.","PeriodicalId":308909,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122983853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Antenna arrays are suitable and flexibel in such applications. Fractal antennas and arrays are finding much interest in recent years for the benefits they offer over conventional ones. The feasibility of deploying the fractal principle to focused arrays is demonstrated. The properties of fractal array whose elements are spatially distributed according to the binary tree fractal are investigated and compared with those of conventional array. An error function is constructed based on the even- and odd-mode analysis, impedance, transmission and scattering matrices of the phase shifter, which is a frequency of its geometrical dimensions, such a widths, gaps and lengths of strips. The design procedure also incorporates the specified wide band source and load impedances. The minimization algorithm is used as the combination of the genetic algorithm and conjugate gradient method. For WiMAX Physical layer it is even more challenging to introduce a suitable CFO sub-system since WiMAX system supports complex features for future applications such as multiuser, multi-access and high mobility operation. This paper is concerned with low cost hardware implementation of CFO sub-system on field programmable gate array (FPGA) which fits in WiMAX system specifications. CFO algorithm and its basic building blocks description have been introduced. For FPGA implementation, an optimized CORDIC module has been used for estimation/ correction steps. The design has been prototyped on an XC3S200A device in Spartan-3A Platform using ISE 10.1 all in one design suit from Xilinx. Synthesis results, floorplan mapping and testbench waveforms have been reported. Developing and validating the algorithm in VHDL and simulation phases have been explained. WiMAX transmitter/receiver system and CFO sub-system have been modeled and simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK tools. Bit Error Rate (BER) versus signal to noise ratio graphs have been plotted for QAM and QPSK modulations.","PeriodicalId":308909,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131381670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition to mechanical and environmental qualities which are already its reputation, the wood material is a part of sustainable construction since wood store carbon. Particularly, it is used as an inner coating within buildings. Humans spend 80% of their time within buildings. For improving the indoor comfort, it is necessary to control the heat transfer between the occupants and its surrounding environments. The radiation heat transfer exchanges have particularly a significant impact on human thermal comfort in buildings. However, the impact of wood inner coating on thermal comfort is not yet well modelled. A part of the work described the impact of adding wood coating on the radiation exchanges with the human body. A calculation tool has been created for modelling these heat transfer exchanges and their influences on human thermal comfort. The numerical indicators are based on international normative references about ergonomics of the thermal environment, using an analytical calculation of predicted mean vote and predicted percentage dissatisfied. This tool is tested in the case of an experimental cell in a research laboratory. Five coatings scenarios have been assessed: inner wall without wood, floor wood coating, floor and ceiling wood coating, all walls wood coating, and all inner sides wood coatings. The results indicate the best thermal comfort concerning radiation exchanges. This paper presents in the first part the numerical modeling of the radiation heat transfer effects on human thermal comfort in buildings. Then, the experimental cell is described with the five scenarios of wood inner coatings. The calculation tool is presented with an analysis of results.","PeriodicalId":308909,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131720366","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main idea is to select the better algorithm in each part of document image. There are algorithms that properly distinguish the text from the background in the regions close to the text, but get wrong in the regions far from the text and introduce some part of background as text. We propose a new binarization algorithm that effectively eliminates background and reliably extracts some parts of each character. Then according to the distance of each pixel form the text, the appropriate algorithm is selected to binarize that pixel. Proposed method is applicable for various types of degraded document images. After extensive experiment, the proposed binarization algorithm demonstrate superior performance against four well-know binarization algorithms on a set of degraded document images captured with camera.","PeriodicalId":308909,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124759490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most important feature of the proposed system is its ability to dynamically estimate the number of multipath signals that may lie in the reference channel. The basic idea of the considered algorithm is to sort the partial correlations and carry out successive censoring tests by updating the noise estimation until the first path synchronization. Exact expressions for the probability of false alarm and the mean acquisition time are derived. The performances of the proposed system are then studied and compared with those of the adaptive hybrid acquisition processor (AHAP) and the ordered statistic hybrid acquisition processor (OSHAP).","PeriodicalId":308909,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114645646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to inappropriate planning and management, accelerated urban growth and tremendous loss in land, especially farmland, have become a great challenge for sustainable urban development in Algeria. Therefore, there is an urgent need to effectively detect and monitor the land use changes and provide accurate and timely information for planning and management. Remote sensing has proved to be a powerful tool for monitoring rapid land use changes. The goal of this paper is to investigate the potential of satellite imagery in the detection of the dynamics of land use changes in the city of Sidi Bel Abbes. For this purpose, a methodology based on the vegetation index was proposed for the identification of farmland mutation. Multispectral and multitemporal images from Landsat were used to realize a map of farmland mutation by the phenomenon of urbanization. The results indicate that there was a considerable land use conversion from farmland into built-up land in the study area from 1987 to 2002.","PeriodicalId":308909,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Advances in Computational Tools for Engineering Applications","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116621293","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
