The mangrove forest of Perancak Estuary with a history of restoration project was made the subject of this research. The objectives include: (i) estimation of mangrove biomass and sediment carbon stock; (ii) comparison of restored, mixed and natural mangroves’ total carbon stock; (iii) correlational analysis between stand density and diversity indices with ecosystem carbon stock. Nine sampling points were determined within three mangrove categories (mixed, natural, restored). Stand characteristics and diameter at breast height (DBH) were measured to allometrically estimate biomass carbon. Sediment carbon was analyzed with Loss on Ignition (LOI) method. Correlational analysis was done with Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Total ecosystem carbon stock is 4472,93 tonnes ha-1 (biomass C: 4046,31 tonnes ha-1; sediment C: 426,62 tonnes ha-1). Highest carbon stock value was found on restored mangroves due to high contribution of sediment C offsetting its low biomass C. Lowest carbon stock value was found on natural mangroves due to decreased root biomass production and increased decomposition due to change in tidal regimes. There is a strong positive correlation between stand density and biomass carbon. Simpson index of diversity has a stronger (though non significant) correlation with biomass carbon than Shannon-Wiener index.","PeriodicalId":30849,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine and Aquatic Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43143194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research was conducted from October to November 2022 at the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Nusa Cendana University, Kupang. The purpose of this study was to determine how many doses of Padina australis were effective in treating skin, gill and liver tissue damage of cantang grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus lanceolatus) exposed to detergent. The method used is an experiment with a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments used were control without detergent and Padina australis, 0.25g/l detergent and treatment with Padina australis with doses of 0.5%, 1% and 1.5%. The fish used was grouper cantang (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus lanceolatus) with a size of 8-9 cm. Treatment was done by soaking the fish for 10 minutes with the extract for 3 consecutive days. The fish were then fixed with 95% alcohol solution for further histology. The results showed that the administration of Padina autralis effect on changes in the histology of the skin, gill, and liver of cantang grouper. Changes that occur in the skin in the form of degeneration of vacuoles, in the gill lamellae hemorrhage occurs and the liver undergoes vacuole degeneration and necrosis. The best dose is found in the 1.5% treatment but it has not been effective in treating liver tissue.","PeriodicalId":30849,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine and Aquatic Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41557157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the most vulnerable disasters in Indonesia is earthquakes, volcanic eruptions to tsunami waves (Mukhtasor , 2007). Based on data from the BNPB on December 22 2018, there was a tsunami disaster in the southwest coast of Banten to the coast of Lampung caused by the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau. The purpose of this study are to create tsunami hazard map on the southwest coast of Banten Province by using a Geographic Information System (GIS) and then identify which areas are in a very vulnerable class. This research was conducted in February 2020 until May 2020. The analytical method used was descriptive analysis, map overlay analysis, and qualitative analysis. The stages include the preparation of maps and supporting data using the help of Global Mapper 8.0 software, the determination of influential parameters, analysis of tsunami prone areas based on the parameters that affect, and determination of tsunami prone areas. The process of determining tsunami-prone areas is done through a process of weighting and scoring of influential parameters, then overlapping with the help of ArcGis 10.7 software to get a map of the level of tsunami hazard. The factors in this study that affect tsunami hazard are land height, land protection, distance from the tsunami source, coastline shape, and the presence of barrier islands. The total area classified as very vulnerable is around 19,94 km2 on the southwest coast of Banten Province. This indicates the need for disaster management through crisis management and risk management based on more valid research.","PeriodicalId":30849,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine and Aquatic Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45173707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The earthquake in Palu-Donggala, South Sulawesi in 2018 with a magnitude of 7.4 had generated a tsunami as high as 3-5 m, and the epicenter was in the north of the bay which resulted in the death toll and the destruction of infrastructure. In minimizing losses and casualties, structural disaster mitigation in the form of coastal buildings consisting of mangroves and vegetation as natural protection and sea walls as coastal reinforcement can be the right step to anticipate the vulnerability of the Palu Bay area. This study aimed to analyzed the level of attenuation in coastal structures and determine the best alternative for tsunami disaster mitigation planning. The test was carried out with a physical model using (wave flume) at the Balai Pantai Laboratory with a total of 48 times of testing with variations of three wave generation targets (0.07 m, 0.09 m, and 0.11 m), depth (0.40 m, 0.414). m, and 0.428 m) and the width of the vegetation (0.40 m, 0.70 m, and 1 m) which are divided into 24 scenarios. The results of the physical model test showed that the presence of coastal structures has a significant effect on the characteristics of the transmission waves, and the speed. The existence of mangrove forests and vegetation has succeeded in reducing wave transmission by 20-100%, also being able to reduce wave speed up to 100% significantly in the relative water level (Mean Water Level), reducing up to 87% at average elevation (Sea Water Level) ), and reduce up to 22% at the highest tide state (High Water Level).","PeriodicalId":30849,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine and Aquatic Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44197714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the problems for the fisheries industry in Indonesia's is overfishing, along with advances in fishing technology that result in catching activities that exceed sustainable fishing rates and are not offset by good management. This research aims to analyze the integrated distribution of fishing vessels from VIIRS vessel detection data and VMS data in Indonesia's fisheries management areas. To support management efforts, studies on the distribution of vessels that are operating in Indonesian waters need to be known definitively. Currently, the monitoring of the distribution of fishing vessels in the Indonesian area is carried out using a vessel monitoring system. Apart from VMS, detection of fishing vessels can be done by utilizing remote sensing data from both active and passive sensors, namely through the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership satellite which has a visible infrared imaging radiometer suite. This instrument has a day/night band capable of recording lights on the earth's surface, including fishing boats that use the light as a fishing aid. The fishing vessel detection method uses a combination of VBD data from VIIRS satellite imagery and fishing vessel VMS data. Based on the result, VMS matching with VBD is 26.04%, and based on the combination of VIIRS and VMS data, it is known that the area with the most ship distribution is in WPP-712","PeriodicalId":30849,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine and Aquatic Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47560568","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This area is well-known for having a large fishing port as well as a beach tourism area. The dynamics of Pacitan Bay's waters due to the influence of currents, waves, and the input of water masses from the mainland are thought to affect the characteristics of the waters' bottom sediments. The objective of this study was to map the characteristics of bottom sediments and the distribution of organic substance. This research also analyzed the relationship between sediment characteristics and the concentration of organic subtance in the sediment. The sediment's characteristics were determined using granulometric analysis, and the organic matter content was determined using the Loss of Ignition (LOI) method. The analysis results show that sandy substrates dominate the bottom sediments of Pacitan Bay by an average of 82.22%. The distribution of sandy substrate dominates the bay's north and west. Distance from the shoreline has a significant effect on organic subtance distribution (One Way ANOVA, F = 6.05; p 0.05). The organic matter content of sediments dominated by sand is lower (R2 = 0.76) compared to substrates with softer grain size (silt or mud) and tighter pores, making organic matter efficient to precipitate.","PeriodicalId":30849,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine and Aquatic Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44673008","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Increased exploitation of oil resources is a concern for oil spills that are very harmful to marine ecosystems. On July 12 2019, there was a well kick in the well reactivation YYA-1 owned by PT. Pertamina Hulu Energi work area Offshore North West Java (ONWJ) in Karawang Sea. The oil spill were spread up to Banten and continued to spread widely. Remote sensing is one of the methods that can be used to detect and monitor the oil spill by quickly viewing the location and spill points, and the pace and direction of the oil that can be utilized for cleaning. This research aims to determine the detection of oil spill using Sentinel-1A imagery and to determine oil spill patterns in Karawang Sea before spills occur until the well YYA-1 was closed that was on October 7 2019. This detection is done with adaptive threshold algorithm through Sentinel applications platform (SNAP). The results showed that oil spill has a trajectory spread pattern at the beginning of the spill which occur on July 18 2019. After July 18th, the spread pattern turned random and interrupted the spreading process. The spread has an estimated spread area of 145.85 km2. The spread of oil spill moved towards the northwest to the west approaching the coast and further away from the source of the spill, to Pandjang Island, Banten.","PeriodicalId":30849,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine and Aquatic Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47769242","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
