As is shown by the authors earlier, electromagnetic grazing incident wave reflection coefficient can be used to determine absolute value of complex conductivity in wide temperature and frequency range. For the first time the experimental measurement setup was realized in millimeter wavelength range using GIR technique and waveguide phase bridge-based approach. The conductivity of high-temperature superconductor YBa2Cu3O7-delta film at temperatures higher than critical TC was measured.","PeriodicalId":308339,"journal":{"name":"2008 38th European Microwave Conference","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134335633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Standard rectangular and square cross section waveguides are considered. The waveguides can be filled with usual (single) and crossed (double) wire media (WM). In the standard waveguides, filled with the single WM, capacitances, inserted near wide walls, create pass bands located much lower than the cutoff frequency. For example, in the waveguide, having the cutoff frequency 26 GHz, we have found propagating modes in the frequency range 5-10 GHz. Dispersion of modes in these pass bands is very sensitive to a change of capacitances. Such loaded waveguides can form a new class of controllable microwave devices. Tunability of modes, propagating below the cutoff of the empty waveguide, is studied numerically and experimentally.","PeriodicalId":308339,"journal":{"name":"2008 38th European Microwave Conference","volume":"597 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122936739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design methodology for the proposed filter topologies relies on already known techniques and is enhanced with the tuning functionality by introducing the Barium-Strontium-Titanate (BST) varactors. Prototype circuits of a lowpass and a bandstop filter were fabricated and the measurement results showed good agreement to the corresponding calculated data. The lowpass prototype achieves a continuous tuning range from 1.5 GHz to 1.9 GHz. The highest measured passband insertion loss is about 4 dB and the input matching is better than -15dB for all bias states. The implemented bandstop filter allows a continuous tuning of the notch frequency from 1.5 GHz to 2.1 GHz with a minimum attenuation of 17 dB.","PeriodicalId":308339,"journal":{"name":"2008 38th European Microwave Conference","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125060635","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The filter implements a novel inter-resonator coupling cavity placed above the inter-cavity wall separating the resonators and etched out of silicon using the same KOH-etching process as the one used to realised the cavity resonators. The Q-factor of a single cavity resonator is measured as well as the response of the two-pole filter. The filter presented here constitutes the first development step toward a more sophisticated fixed as well as tunable four-pole filter aiming at the replacement of bulky waveguide filters mounted in a majority of satellite transceivers.","PeriodicalId":308339,"journal":{"name":"2008 38th European Microwave Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134535117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithms have been implemented as a stand-alone library. Design rules are presented on the basis of simulation and measurement results. Both electric and magnetic fields are gradually transformed from microstrip line to FGCPW by tapering the signal conductor. The microstrip ground plane on the bottom side of the substrate is directly connected to the grounds of the FGCPW on the top side with metallic vias, providing an RF short-circuit for suppressing parasitic modes. Measured return loss is lower than -10 dB for a back-to-back structure from 0.04 GHz to 24 GHz with a low insertion loss of about 1.5 dB at 20 GHz. This kind of transition can find applications in highly integrated circuits and systems using both FGCPW and microstrip line techniques, and also offer easy and accurate measurements of FGCPW circuits with the help of simple coaxial adapters.","PeriodicalId":308339,"journal":{"name":"2008 38th European Microwave Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129133683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Measurements show a maximum input frequency of 3.5 GHz, and a power consumption of 4.5 mW from a 1.0 V supply.
