Kelimeler: Aile Merkezli Bakım, Destek, Ebeveyn, Hemşire Abstract Relationship Between Family-Centered Care in Pediatric Units and The Level of Support Provided to Parents Objective: This descriptive study was carried out in order to determine the relationship between family-centered care given to children in pediatric units and the level of support provided to parents. Methods: “Family-Centered Care Scale” and “Parental Support Scale” were used as data collection tools in the study. The sample of the study consisted of 155 voluntary parents of all children who applied to the pediatric units of a private foundation university hospital in Istanbul and had hospitalized for three days or more, volunteering to participate. Results: 80% of the parents participating in the study were women. Within the scope of the study, the average point of “Matching Percentage” in the “Family Centered Care Scale” was found to be 70.1 ± 38.9 and the total score average of the “Nurse Parent Support Scale” was 84.8 ± 15.2. Statistically significant difference was found between the educational level of parents in sample group, parents’ employment status, length of stay in the hospital, and the unit where child was hospitalized (p<0,05). Conclusion: It was determined that the nurses related to family-centered care practices were satisfied with the care they gave to parents and children, and as the level of support provided to parents increased, parental participation in family-centered care increased. In line with these results, nurses should accept the role of parents in family-centered care and support parents in line with their needs.","PeriodicalId":30746,"journal":{"name":"Mustafa Kemal Universitesi Tip Dergisi","volume":"53 28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67636867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The frequency of etiological causes varies according to age groups in iron deficiency anemia. While the most important cause of iron deficiency anemia is menstrual bleeding in premenopausal women; It causes chronic blood loss from the gastrointestinal system in postmenopausal women and adult men. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the malignancy prevalence of patients who underwent gastroscopy and colonoscopy due to iron deficiency. Method: The study included patients who underwent gastroscopy and colonoscopy for iron deficiency anemia etiology screening between December 2018 and July 2019. Colonoscopy was performed after appropriate preparation to be evaluated in the terminal ileum. The patients’ age, gender, anamnesis information and procedure results files were examined retrospectively. Results: During this period, colonoscopy was performed in 142 patients due to iron deficiency anemia. Gastroscopy was also performed on 130 of them. 52.81% of the patients were men and 47.18% were women. The mean age of men was 61.4 ± 11.8, and the mean age of women was 55.2 ± 13.6. Of these, 15.5% of patients had polyps in the colon and 80.5% of them were adenomatous polyp. Carcinoma in the colon was detected in 7% of the patients. In a total of 57.7% of these patients, a pathology that could explain anemia such as gastric adenocarcinoma, ulcer, gastritis, esophagitis, esophageal varices, polyps and esophagitis was detected. A total of 64.8% patients had an endoscopic finding that could explain anemia. Conclusion: Endoscopic examination of the gastrointestinal tract should be started after iron deficiency anemia is confirmed by laboratory studies and after excluding anemia due to dietary iron deficiency, increased iron requirement and extra-gastrointestinal blood loss. In this study, we detected polyps in the colon in 15.5% of the cases, and adenocarcinoma in 7.04% of the patients. In the stomach, 0.7% of the patients were found to have adenocarcinoma. This shows the importance of both gastroscopy and colonoscopy in the etiology of iron deficiency anemia.","PeriodicalId":30746,"journal":{"name":"Mustafa Kemal Universitesi Tip Dergisi","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48683404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, we aimed to share our clinical experience with GI stents by evaluating the reasons and course of GI stents. Materials and Methods: Patients who had a GI stent in our clinic between 2014 and 2019 were included in the study. Retrospectively, the reason for stent insertion, the type of stent, the presence or absence of complications, the management of the complications and the life span of the patients were analyzed. Especially in advanced stage cancers, the effectiveness of stents in palliative treatment and their contribution to life span were evaluated. Results: During this period, a total of 36 patients had GI stents implanted. 24 (67%) of our patients were male and 12 (33%) were female. The mean age of men was 67 ± 13.8, and the mean age of women was 45.6 ± 11.5. Those who are stented for malign reasons; A stent was implanted for 44.5% esophageal cancer, 19.5% stomach cancer, 16.6% lung cancer and 5.5% rectal cancer. Of those who were stented for benign reasons, 11.1% had a fistula, and 2.8% had a stent due to stage d esophagitis. SEMS was attached to all of them. 27% of our patients were still alive. 73% of our patients died and when we looked at the average life span, we found it as 109.6 ± 101 days. Conclusion: As a result, it is seen that the use of stents in palliation of patients with inoperable digestive system stenosis is an effective method for a quality palliation in the short term. By using self-expanding metal stents, malignant and benign dysphagia can be alleviated.","PeriodicalId":30746,"journal":{"name":"Mustafa Kemal Universitesi Tip Dergisi","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67635856","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
