Similar to the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) for the Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4), DHCPv6 uses a client-server model to manage addresses in networks, providing stateful address assignment. While DHCPv6 can be configured to assign randomly distributed addresses to clients, the DHCP Unique Identifier (DUID) was designed to identify uniquely identify clients to servers and remains static to clients as they move between different subnets and networks. Since the DUID is globally unique and exposed in the clear, attackers can geotemporally track clients by sniffing DHCPv6 messages on the local network or by using unauthenticated protocol-valid queries that request systems' DUIDs or leased addresses. DUIDs can also be formed with system-specific information, further compromising the privacy and security of the host. To combat the threat of the static DUID, a dynamic DUID was implemented and analyzed for its effect on privacy and security as well as its computational overhead. The privacy implications of DHCPv6 must be addressed before large-scale IPv6 deployment.","PeriodicalId":307170,"journal":{"name":"The 16th North-East Asia Symposium on Nano, Information Technology and Reliability","volume":"141 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122344153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed image thresholding algorithm is called SFLO-based MCET algorithm. Three different methods including the exhaustive search, the honey bee mating optimization (HBMO) and the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms are also implemented for comparison. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed SFLO-based MCET algorithm can efficiently search for multiple thresholds that are very close to the optimal ones examined by the exhaustive search method. Compared with the other two thresholding methods, the needs of computation time using the SFLO-based MCET algorithm is the smallest. And further, the performance of segmentation is better than the one of PSO-based MCET algorithm, while the result of SFLO-based MCET algorithm is insignificant with respect to the HBMO-based MCET algorithms.","PeriodicalId":307170,"journal":{"name":"The 16th North-East Asia Symposium on Nano, Information Technology and Reliability","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116451006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To reduce the risk of an investment, many portfolio selection methods have been proposed. By buying several stocks together, a portfolio selection method aims at maximizing the return of an investment given a predefined risk level. To build an optimal stock portfolio, one needs to select stocks and decide the proportion of the capital on each stock. Also, it is very important to decide when to buy or sell a stock portfolio. In this paper, we present a genetic algorithm to build stock portfolios. The proposed method comprises a genetic algorithm and a weighted fuzzy time series. The genetic algorithm is used to construct an optimal portfolio while the weighted fuzzy time series is used to predict the return of the portfolio which in turn is used to formulate the fitness function of the genetic algorithm. Furthermore, we propose the periodically checking and stop-loss point policies to decide selling and buying time points of the stock portfolio. The experiments on the stocks of Taiwan 50 show that the proposed method outperforms the Taiwan 50 index and the TAIEX index in terms of the 7-year average return rate.","PeriodicalId":307170,"journal":{"name":"The 16th North-East Asia Symposium on Nano, Information Technology and Reliability","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130003491","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This present study explores the integration of virtual reality tools in college English curriculum, researching into the effects of situation-based learning environment on learning achievement and autonomous learning motivation. Adopting a quasi-experimental design, the experimental group was subjected to learning with digital materials, i.e. Second Life virtual characters (avatars), while the control group received traditional lecture-based learning. The results showed that the incorporation of avatars into the materials significantly improved the English learning achievement of freshman students. In addition, virtual-reality-assisted learning materials also encouraged students' motivation to learn autonomously. Based on the findings, virtual reality has strong potential in language education. Since the integration of avatars into English learning materials can boost students' willingness to learn autonomously, we suggest future curriculum design for advanced English courses to combine virtual reality in the construction of a situation-based English learning mechanism.","PeriodicalId":307170,"journal":{"name":"The 16th North-East Asia Symposium on Nano, Information Technology and Reliability","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126412756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The hybrid approach to measure the trust values and centralities of social networking through the interactions of blogs' trackbacks can facilitate searching the trustable blog's articles and expert recommendations for the query users/bloggers. Furthermore, knowledge dissemination and acquirement can also be improved by the bloggers' interactions and the appraisals assigned by the bloggers on the blog's web sites. In order to verify the effect of hybrid approach, the experiments test the variation of recommendation values inferred by trust value and rating based on 50 blogs' articles and 20 blogs' authors. The results demonstrate the high trust value the high recommendation value. In terms of the variation of recommendation values, the high trust value is lower than the low trust value. The quality of recommendation results would be stable. The experimental results demonstrate the rating is also important to influence the recommendation value in this trust-based recommendation methodology.","PeriodicalId":307170,"journal":{"name":"The 16th North-East Asia Symposium on Nano, Information Technology and Reliability","volume":"149 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133516111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Game-based learning (GBL) regards computer game as an e-learning platform that can stimulate a learner to enhance his or her learning motivation by game playing experience. In this study, a GBL content design framework is proposed to replicate the learning cognitive process in GBL units. The proposed model enables the elementary school children to access three aggregated types of Bloom cognitive processes including “remember & understand”, “analyze & apply” and “evaluate”. According to problem-solving theory, these aggregated Bloom cognitive processes are replicated in the GBL via the appropriate representation approaches such as “tool”, “feedback” and “goal” approach. Furthermore, to validate the feasibility of the proposed GBL framework, 17 GBL units are designed according to the learning material is announced by the Taiwan Ministry of Education. These 17 GBL units are implemented to educate the elementary school children of the security campus knowledge and the good lifestyle habit concept. Compared to the traditional text-based webpage learning, the GBL is a more attractive and interesting platform that enables learners to achieve improved learning performance.","PeriodicalId":307170,"journal":{"name":"The 16th North-East Asia Symposium on Nano, Information Technology and Reliability","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130363053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the enumeration approach was able to solve the portal reader antenna placement problem, both of the execution time and the CPU computation power consumption are considerable. Therefore, this study attempts to solve the portal reader antennas placement problem with a biology-inspired approach. In this study two methods with artificial immune systems are introduced. They are (1) the method with clonal selection algorithm (CLONALG), and (2) the proposed method, artificial immune algorithm with memory and suppressor cells method (AIA-MS). Experiments were performed to compare the performance among the genetic algorithm method (GA), the CLONALG method and the AIA-MS method. The results showed that, comparing with the execution time and the CPU computation power consumption of the enumeration method, AIA-MS had 97% simulations finding the optimal individuals and only used 61% of the execution time and the CPU computation power consumption in the 100 times simulations. In the same circumstances, CLONALG had 84% simulations and GA only had 40% simulations finding the optimal individuals. AIA-MS thus has the best performance.","PeriodicalId":307170,"journal":{"name":"The 16th North-East Asia Symposium on Nano, Information Technology and Reliability","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131041839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
