Students with poor sleep quality will undoubtedly disturb their daily activities, such as being absent from lec-tures due to illness and falling asleep during lectures. A further impact of poor sleep quality is decreased student academic achievement.Objectives. To analyse the relationship between sleep hygiene and the prevalence of insomnia in medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara. Material and methods. The research design was analytic with a cross-sectional approach. The study population was medical students in clinical clerkships, which amounted to 152 people using consecutive sampling methods. The data was collected using a Sleep Hy-giene Index (SHI) and Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) questionnaire, conducted online via Google Forms. Data processing was carried out using SPSS and the Chi-square statistical test.Results. Most students, as many as 101 people (66.4%), had moderate sleep hygiene, and most students were without insomnia (ap-prox. 61.8%). The results of the Chi-square test bivariate analysis showed a relationship between the degree of sleep hygiene and the prevalence of insomnia in the medical students of Universitas Sumatera Utara.Conclusions. Students are exposed to psychological impacts that can affect the quality of their sleep. Sleep hygiene and sleep cycles in students change due to changes in daily activities, such as physical activity, class schedules, assigned tasks and the use of electronic equipment.","PeriodicalId":305591,"journal":{"name":"Family Medicine & Primary Care Review","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132967162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dignified death represents the essence of palliative care, and maintaining dignity, especially in the final mo ments of life, has particular importance. Objectives. This study aimed to analyze the concept of a dignified death and its implications in the nursing field. Rodgers’ evolutionary method was provided to conduct the analysis. Material and methods. The literature search was carried out in October 2015. Sampling was performed by reviewing articles in nurs ing and searching Google scholar, Science direct, Sid, PubMed, ProQuest, Magiran, and Springer databases. Keyword “death” alone or in combination with dignity and elegance was used for studying the related literature during 1998–2014. Therefore, 205 cases were retrieved and finally, 41 ones were analyzed. Results. In this study, the characteristics of dignified death were identified in physical, social, and spiritual aspects. The antecedents were independence, social support, and readiness to die. Besides, the consequences of the concept consisted of two areas related to the family and the health team. Conclusions. The concept of dignified death has been referred to in many contexts. However, considering the dignity of dying patients commensurate with their condition, nurses are required to assess the needs of these patients and their families. They should also develop a nursing program for the creation of dignified death.","PeriodicalId":305591,"journal":{"name":"Family Medicine & Primary Care Review","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129116975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During humanitarian crises, women and children are particularly vulnerable to morbidity and mortality. Objectives. In response to the level of personal well-being of internally displaced children living outside the IDP camps of Zakho District, we applied a Child-Friendly Space (CFS) programme in the community centre of a non-governmental organisation for two months. Material and methods. In this non-randomised parallel controlled trial, internally displaced children living in the Zakho district in Iraqi Kurdistan were assigned to an experimental (n = 36) or control group (n = 36). The children in the experimental group were entered into a two-month CFS programme, including music, painting, dancing, critical thinking games and recreational activities. The CFS programme was designed based on the UNICEF guidelines of CFS establishment. Results. The children were similar in age (9.86 vs 9.58 years; p = 0.428), sleeping hrs. (8.78 vs 9.28 hours; p = 0.294) and gender (male: 58.3% vs 50.0%; p = 0.478) in the control and experimental groups, respectively. The study showed that following the study period, the children in the experimental group were significantly happier about what they have (mean: 9.2 vs 7.0; p < 0.001) and were happier about how safe they feel (8.3 vs 7.00; p = 0.0085) compared to the children in the control group. In addition, the children of the experimental group had significantly higher mean scores of personal well-being compared to the children in the control group (8.4 vs 7.7; p = 0.0074). Conclusions. This study showed that the CFS programme is an effective technique to improve the level of personal well-being and sense of security and safety of children.","PeriodicalId":305591,"journal":{"name":"Family Medicine & Primary Care Review","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129481942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hemogram parameters are not only diagnostic tools in haematological diseases, but their role in inflamma tory conditions is also important. One of these haematological markers is a derived index, the so-called red cell distribution width-to-platelet count ratio (RPR). The role of RPR has been well established in various inflammatory conditions. Objectives . In the present study, we aimed to observe the RPR levels of patients with functional bowel disease (FBD), which is also considered as an inflammatory process, and to compare this to the healthy population. Material and methods . Patients diagnosed with FBD according to Rome IV criteria were included as the study group. Healthy vol unteers were enrolled as control subjects. Patients with any form of anaemia or haematological disorders or inflammatory diseases were excluded. Age, gender and hemogram parameters were obtained from institutional databases. The data of the study and control groups was compared. Results. 158 subjects were enrolled in the study; 87 in the FBD group and 71 in the control group. The RPR of the FBD and control groups were 7% (2%) and 5% (1%), respectively. The difference in RPR between the FBD and control groups was statistically significant ( p = 0.008). A RPR value higher than 6% has a 70% sensitivity and 52% specificity in detecting FBD. There was a significant and positive correlation between RPR levels and the presence of FBD ( r = 0.22, p = 0.007). Conclusions. We suggest that elevated RPR levels could yield potential diagnostic benefits in the diagnosis of FBD. The most common arrhythmia which have been reported frequently in COVID-19 patients is sinus tachy-cardia. As COVID-19 is usually misdiagnosed with other respiratory tract diseases, introduction of a rapid clinical indicator for out of proportional sinus tachycardia in the diagnosis of COVID-19 during the early viral replication stage is essential for better cost-effective use of resources.Objectives. This study was conducted to determine the diagnostic accuracy of sinus tachycardia as an independent indicator of COVID-19.Material and methods. This is a cross-sectional analytical study. It included 152 healthcare workers who fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Multiple logistic regression analysis was conducted to investigate the factors associated with COVID-19 among the entire study sample and among each group.Results. Among our participants, 32.9% were male, while 67.1% were female, with a mean age of 35.47 +/- 7.09 years. It was found that 51.3% of our sample were COVID-19 PCR positive, and the mean number of days of symptoms at presentation was 2.01 +/- 1.29. It was found that the prevalence of out of proportional sinus tachycardia among the participants diagnosed with COVID-19 in 2021 was triple that of the participants who were recruited in 2020 (61%, 26%, respectively). It was found that there was significant association between pulse rate and COVID-19, with gender, age, temperature or days of symptoms having no effect.Conclusions.
