Recently, researchers have shown increased interest in the psychological effect of the pandemic on healthcare workers, as well as on the general population. Objectives. We aimed to investigate the incidence of adverse psychological effects, such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, experienced by medical staff and healthcare professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Material and methods. This is a cross-sectional survey, in which participants were invited to take part in the study by completing a questionnaire. The survey gathered information on demographic data, symptoms of the Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scales (DASS-21) and the Impact of Events Scale-Revised (IES-R) tool. Results. The total and subscale of DAS-21 showed that 54.8% of all participants showed signs of depression, (60.1%) anxiety and (59.4%) stress. The faculty member of medicine was substantially correlated with the DASS-21 subscale depression and anxiety. In addition, the stress subscale of the DASS-21 was substantially higher with a medical intern. Similarly, the findings obtained from the preliminary study of participants who encountered or were exposed to COVID-19 patients had significantly higher stress subscale ratings in the Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scales. In addition, the married participants were correlated with higher scores in the (IES-R) tool. Conclusions. More than half of the participants in this study encountered mild to extreme psychological effects during the pandemic. This investigation's findings indicate that working in the medical profession (medical staff members and medical interns) is associated with depression, anxiety and stress.","PeriodicalId":305591,"journal":{"name":"Family Medicine & Primary Care Review","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131875380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Violence against the elderly is one of the major social health problems in today’s societies, and its incidence has increased sharply in the last two decades. There are numerous challenges related to this issue. Objectives. The present study wasn conducted to analyse the concept of violence against the elderly. Material and methods. The present study was conducted using Walker and avant’s approach in eight steps by searching and analysing studies from valid databases using the keywords elderly people, elderly person, violence, aggression, elderly, older, adult, geriatric, abuse, mistreatment violence and the elderly and elder abuse. The inclusion criteria included related Persian and English studies car ried out between 2000 and 2020. Finally, as many as 63 articles related to the concept were analysed. Results. Violence against the elderly can be defined as injury or discomfort caused by an action and its repetition or failure to take ac tion in an event for which appropriate action had been expected; the human dignity of an elderly person is, thus, threatened. such vio lence is understood as emotional-mental violence, self-neglect, physical violence, economic violence, sexual violence, neglect and inat -tention. Moreover, its consequences are personal burnout and helplessness, family dysfunction and socially harmful consequences. Conclusions. defining a concept derived from violence against the elderly can help health workers, especially nurses, have a better understanding about this issue; they will, thus, conduct studies, interventions and evaluations of nursing actions to promote the elderly health.","PeriodicalId":305591,"journal":{"name":"Family Medicine & Primary Care Review","volume":"82 12","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131879110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The therapeutic approach used to help treat HBV infection has been based on re-establishing a functioning T cell response and limiting additional negative consequences. Due to inadequate outcomes, new strategies for enhancing the immune response and inducing a particular HBV immune response have been developed. Activation of toll-like receptor 7 plays a role in mediating the immune response. TLR7 has shown to increase T cell activity, increase production of cytokines, increase the number of NK cells and lower serum concentrations of HBsAg, thus showing high potential to prevent and treat chronic hepatitis B. Evaluation of NK cell cytokine generation and degranulation reveals a considerable improvement in every cell function when compared to baseline values. However, TLR agonists are microscopic molecules that are rapidly eliminated from the system following ingestion and may cause significant systemic adverse effects. Poly(Ethylene Glycol)- Poly(Lactic Acid) can be utilised to increase the effectiveness of the toll-like receptor 7 agonist and lower the negative effects of the TLR7 agonist. TLR7 agonist distribution may be enhanced by an effective drug carrier, and conjugating a macromolecule may increase pharmacokinetics without toxicity or other negative side effects. The Poly(Ethylene Glycol)-Poly(Lactic Acid) TLR 7 agonist is potentially beneficial in treating hepatitis B as an immune response stimulant.","PeriodicalId":305591,"journal":{"name":"Family Medicine & Primary Care Review","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125636880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The risk factors associated with COVID-19 disease severity are still being investigated. Individual susceptibility to viral infections has been known to be associated with the ABO blood group. Material and methods. This is an observational study with a prospective design. Patients were followed during treatment, and clinical outcomes were recorded, being severe or mild-moderate cases. A total of 207 confirmed COVID-19 patients who underwent treatment from November 2020 to January 2021 were included in this study. Chi-square analysis was used to determine the association between blood group A and other blood groups with the occurrence of severe cases. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to obtain the adjusted odds ratio (OR) and determine the effect of confounding variables. Results. We found a significant association between blood group A and disease severity, though not for any other blood group. By using multiple logistic regression analysis, blood group A was independently associated with disease severity with an adjusted OR (95% confidence interval (CI)) of 2.36 (1.07-5.23) (p = 0.034). Conclusions. COVID-19 patients with blood group A have a higher risk of becoming severe cases compared to non-A blood groups.","PeriodicalId":305591,"journal":{"name":"Family Medicine & Primary Care Review","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115146880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
