The selection of films that archivists carry out today has an important impact on the future configuration of digitalised and virtually accessible film collections. Given the responsibility that this task entails, we consider it interesting to explore what the different profiles of the users of film archives think about selection and digitisation of films. Approach/Methodology/Design. To this end, structured interviews were conducted with 31 subjects belonging to four groups of users: film researchers, film professionals, journalists/ film critics, and last year audio-visual communication undergraduates from the Universityof Seville. Findings. The most notable results, which do not differ in essence from what is known in the archival field, include, on the one hand, the unanimous view that digitisation is an effective way of conserving audio-visual memory and fostering public interest in film collections and archives and, on the other, that when films have to be selected for their digitisation, this should be done following rigorous and systematic selection criteria, thus avoiding the detrimental effects of random methods. Lastly, some future research lines are offered. Originality/Value. All the bibliography consulted view topics relating to film selection and digitisation exclusively through the prism of archival and library and information sciences. Namely, these studies are restricted to these specific areas of knowledge and aimed at professional and experts in the field. For that reason, it may be interesting to explore other viewpoints and perspectives that go beyond purely technical, theoretical or methodological approach to film curation.","PeriodicalId":30549,"journal":{"name":"Libellarium Journal for the Research of Writing Books and Cultural Heritage Institutions","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135240801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The development and usage of digital library services have accelerated. Many libraries have expanded their digital services in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The physical locations were closed or operated with reduced capacity and libraries continued to provide services digitally. The physical locations of many libraries have reopened but the development of digital services persists. Most libraries offer a wide variety of services digitally and many libraries are expanding their digital services. It is, therefore, relevant to explore how librarians perceive the digital public library services offered at their institutions and how the digital services supplement or replace services in the physical library. Approach/methodology/design. This study presents the findings of an interview-based study with five librarians from different public libraries across Denmark. Findings. The findings show that librarians perceive the physical and digital services as means to the same end while carefully considering the content, target audience and platform when offering services to their users. They see the digital services as a critical aspect of the raison d’etre of the library and means to attract new users. Research limitations. It is important to note that this study is based on a small sample. Practical implications. The implications for digital public library services are discussed and recommendations based on this study are considered. Originality/value. While many studies have explored librarians’ perceptions of the value of public libraries, this study focuses on librarians’ perception of the value of digital libraries and how these services supplement or replace the physical library.","PeriodicalId":30549,"journal":{"name":"Libellarium Journal for the Research of Writing Books and Cultural Heritage Institutions","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135241640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ukazujući na promjene koje su zahvatile izdavaštvo ubrzanim razvojem informacijsko-komunikacijskih tehnologija, cilj rada temelji na analizi razvoja elektroničke knjige (e-knjige) i elektroničkog nakladništva (e-nakladništvo) kroz povijesnu i teorijsku perspektivu, čime se omogućuje detaljan uvid u trenutno stanje, s indicijama budućeg razvoja u Republici Hrvatskoj. S obzirom na malo tržište i ograničenu dostupnost izdanja na hrvatskom jeziku, kao i nedovoljnu upoznatost korisnika s prednostima e-knjige, ovim radom željelo se sve navedene aspekte objediniti na jednom mjestu s ciljem sistematizacije dostupne literature. Iz tog razloga, članak je koristan nakladnicima i autorima koji nisu još prepoznali sve mogućnosti koje nudi elektronička knjiga, ili nisu u potpunosti shvatili njenu svrhovitost. Pristup/metodologija/dizajn. Primjenjujući metodu analize, sinteze i usporedbe, ovim radom se daje detaljna procjena snaga, slabosti, prilika i prijetnji (tzv. SWOT analiza) elektroničkoj knjizi kao proizvodu e-nakladništva u Republici Hrvatskoj. Sistematičnom analizom do sada objavljene znanstvene i stručne literature, detaljno se navode pozitivne i negativne strane elektroničke knjige, diskutiraju se novi trendovi te daje naznaka budućeg razvoja e-knjige s implikacijama na e-izdavaštvo. Rezultati. Rezultati ''SWOT'' analize pokazuju da elektronička knjiga posjeduje brojne prednosti poput funkcionalnosti i interaktivnosti, a kojima se može pozicionirati kao koristan medij prijenosa informacija i znanja. S druge strane, upravo ovisnost o tehnologiji je njena najveća slabost. Nove prilike leže u novim suradnjama i novim distribucijskim kanalima, no veliku prijetnju pritom predstavlja konkurencija koja na digitalnim kanalima može doći iz cijelog svijeta. Originalnost/vrijednost. Iz navedenog pregleda dosadašnje objavljene literature može se uočiti kako nije još dan pregled snaga, slabosti, prilika i prijetnji e-knjizi u Republici Hrvatskoj. Stoga, postoji potreba za navedenom sistematizacijom da bi se dobio jasniji pregled stanja tržišta knjiga, te uvid u potencijalne smjerove budućeg razvoja.","PeriodicalId":30549,"journal":{"name":"Libellarium Journal for the Research of Writing Books and Cultural Heritage Institutions","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135241782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Svrha je članka, kao i motiv za provedbu ovoga istraživanja, utvrditi prikladnost strukture životopisa koji se unose u mrežni biografski leksikon Obrazi slovenskih pokrajin (Lica slovenskih pokrajina). Namjera je i ustanoviti kriterije ili strukturne elemente koji mogu pomoći pri odlučivanju koje će se osobe uključiti u mrežni biografski leksikon. Pristup/metodologija/dizajn. Za analizu strukture zapisa koji se unose u mrežni biografski leksikon, kao i za utvrđivanje kriterija za odabir osoba za unos u mrežni biografski leksikon, korištena je metoda analize sadržaja. Rezultati. Definirani su kriteriji za odabir osoba za upis u mrežni biografski leksikon Obrazi slovenskih pokrajin (OSP) i struktura životopisa na mrežnom biografskom leksikonu OSP. Zaključeno je i da je poželjno da redoslijed strukturnih elemenata bude nepromjenjiv. Također, zaključeno je da je za razvoj biografskih leksikona bitna i suradnja svih ustanova koje mogu pridonijeti kvaliteti biografskih leksikona. Ograničenja. Ograničenje istraživanja predstavljala je činjenica da svaku osobu čiji se životopisi uključuju u mrežni biografski leksikon OSP povezuju biografski jedinstveni podatci, isključivo vezani za život te osobe, pa je teško odrediti jedinstvenu strukturu elemenata.Također, prema našim saznanjima, nema istraživanja koja se bave strukturom životopisa u biografskim leksikonima. Originalnost/vrijednost. Rezultati istraživanja mogu pridonijeti kvaliteti unosa u mrežni biografski leksikon OSP, ali i u druge mrežne biografske leksikone. Kvalitetnija struktura životopisa i stručni kriterij za odabir osoba koje će biti uključene u biografski leksikon moralibi utjecati i na zadovoljstvo korisnika samim portalom. By relying on the theoretical concepts on which critical librarianship is based on the one hand, and contemporary art on the other hand, a possibility is shown of their interference with the aim to introduce a critical perspective within librarianship through art and to establish a new methodology at the crossroads of the two disciplines. The aforementioned is demonstrated in the paper through the coexistence and activity of S. S. Kranjcevic Library and Prozori Gallery (Zagreb City Libraries), the programmatic and curatorial concept of which deals with the questions of the manner in which the theoretical positions of contemporary art and their practical and discursive analysis can contribute to the visibility, importance, and cultural capital of the library, the library profession, and the encouragement of critical attitude within the framework of information and communication sciences, the branch of which being librarianship, with emphasis on the project “Uncertain Interventions: LGBTIQ Users in Public Libraries” as a case study. The focus was on the most borrowed books. In the first part of the paper there is a literature review related to topic, such as readers' preferences and importance of culturally diverse materials. After presentation of theoretical background there is a second part of the paper in which research results are presented. These were the goals of research: 1) to explore how often the users of Croatian public libraries have borrowed books of authors from Croatia in comparison to books of non-Croatian authors; 2) to explore characteristics of the most borrowed books of Croatian authors (when they were published; gender of authors; are they fiction, non-fiction or picture books; what are their genres). Public libraries in Zagreb, Split, Rijeka and Pula were included in research. Findings indicate that there are about 10% of books of Croatian authors among 2000 most borrowed books of these libraries. Majority of these books are fiction books published for the first time after the year 2000.","PeriodicalId":30549,"journal":{"name":"Libellarium Journal for the Research of Writing Books and Cultural Heritage Institutions","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46093659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This initial report is based on activities undertaken by a team of individuals with diverse expertise and cultural backgrounds, and a common vision for repurposing the Kwakupokela Community Library. To date, key achievements include: the Kwakupokela Educational Trust has been created and registered with the Malawi government as a non-governmental organization which now operates the library; a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with Mzuzu University; new books have been donated; and both new and old library books have been processed; the dilapidated and relentlessly leaking roof has been replaced with new iron sheets; the ceiling has been fixed; and the inner walls painted. More importantly, the library has opened its doors to the community. Challenges remain for this ongoing initiative, and include outdated and limited information resources, sustainability of library operations, space shortages and hygiene issues, including lack of restrooms. Strategies have been developed to deal with the mentioned challenges, though their implementation will depend on availability of resources. This paper describes the role librarians can play in uplifting the living conditions of people in rural areas by taking relevant information resources to these segregated, neglected and dejected communities.","PeriodicalId":30549,"journal":{"name":"Libellarium Journal for the Research of Writing Books and Cultural Heritage Institutions","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48860596","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, little is known about how they regulate their writing process in a natural context, due partially to the lack of methods to explore writing regulation from a situated perspective. The present study aims at demonstrating a method to explore doctoral students’ writing regulation processes within their context of occurrence in ecological conditions. To do so, we focus on the writing process of Natalia, a second-year doctoral student, while she writes and revises an extended abstract for her first scientific article under natural conditions. Screen-recorder and keystroke logging software, writing logs, an open-ended questionnaire and drafts of her text were used to collect data about the processes and products, and about both her actions and perceptions. Analysis combining these different data allowed us to identify two types of episodes: production and regulation episodes, and six subtypes of regulation episodes, and link them to the section of the text and the challenges the writer addressed with each episode. Results also showed that regulation processes vary between sessions, in terms of frequency and in their goals, and that feedback promoted a problemsolving approach to writing.","PeriodicalId":30549,"journal":{"name":"Libellarium Journal for the Research of Writing Books and Cultural Heritage Institutions","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75048291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The doctorate students were interviewed retrospectively about their perceptions of effective feedback comments. Affective components (e.g. hedging devices) and effective components (e.g. revision comments) within the reviewers’ feedback comments, and external components (e.g. reviewer competency) that influence the peer feedback process were induced from the interview transcripts using a grounded theory approach. Further evidence that these identified components impact the feedback process appreciably was triangulated from the analysis of two other datasets; the participants’ asynchronous written feedback comments and revision plans. The results show that the participants used much affect in their written feedback exchanges, and this affect had a strong impact on the effect of their feedback process. Thus, written affective language can play a significant role in how an author interprets and implements feedback comments. This suggests that affect can play a prominent role in helping to develop more effective feedback practices within writing groups. Helping writing communities develop a better understanding of affect within asynchronous written feedback comments can only help them to develop more useful feedback practices.","PeriodicalId":30549,"journal":{"name":"Libellarium Journal for the Research of Writing Books and Cultural Heritage Institutions","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81550782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
