As a result, Sinopoda aureola is removed from the synonymy of Sinopoda stellatops and treated as a valid species. In addition, two new species, Sinopoda biguttata sp. nov. and Sinopoda nigrobrunnea sp. nov. are described with accompanying photographs. The new species, S. biguttata sp. nov., can be distinguished from other congeners by the combination of following characteristics: a pair of large ivory patterns near posterior muscle sigilla on opisthosoma; relatively small internal genitalia and long, distally bifurcated fertilization duct. The new species, S. nigrobrunnea sp. nov., can be distinguished from other congeners by the combination of following characteristics: lateral edge of epigyne angled; edge of epigynal pocket linear; glandular appendages perpendicularly directed then curved posteriorly.","PeriodicalId":30453,"journal":{"name":"Animal Systematics Evolution and Diversity","volume":"32 1","pages":"281-292"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70779469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present study, two cold-water jellyfishes from Korean waters are first described. Scyphomedusae were collected from the coasts of Gangneung and Ulsan of the East Sea, and Boryeong, and the eastern area of the Yellow Sea from June 2006 to May 2015. Scyphomedusae collected in Ulsan and Gangneung were identified morphologically as Aurelia limbata Brandt, 1835. Their umbrella was 250-500 mm in width and 30-50 mm in height; the exumbrella was white and the subumbrella was dark brown in color. The vascular system was complex with anastomosed branches. Individuals of this species lived at about 6.6-9.9°C and 30-50 m depth in Korean waters. Scyphomedusae collected from the center of the Yellow Sea and from Boryeong were identified as Parumbrosa polylobata Kishinouye, 1910. Their umbrella was disc-shaped, 80-200 mm in width and 20-40 mm in height. Its milky white gonads could be seen through the transparent exumbrella. The stomach cavity was round and flat with four interradial cavities connected by subgenital cavities, and the four oral arms were bifurcated and spear-head shaped. Individuals were found at about 6.4-10.0°C and 40-90 m depth in Korean waters. The identities of both species were confirmed by molecular analysis using nuclear ribosomal DNA sequences.","PeriodicalId":30453,"journal":{"name":"Animal Systematics Evolution and Diversity","volume":"32 1","pages":"272-280"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70779460","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These 271 specimens were re-examined and eight species were identified, with three of these species shown to be new to science (A. hanea n. sp., A. microlongistyla n. sp., and A. paralongistyla n. sp.). It was discovered that A. monilis reported in 1981 and A. longistyla reported in 2009 had been misidentified, and corrected as A. prorasha in the present study. Among the eight species found from Korea, A. prorasha was predominant (37.8%), followed by A. longistyla (28.9%), and A. monilis (20.4%). A key of the eight species of Ablabesmyia found in Korea is provided.","PeriodicalId":30453,"journal":{"name":"Animal Systematics Evolution and Diversity","volume":"32 1","pages":"241-252"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70779393","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A. bicaudatus (Imamura, 1931) Filipjev and Schuurmans Stekhoven, 1941 is reported for the first time from South Korea, with a detailed redescription of the species. Specimens were collected from chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium) leaves and shoot tips in South Korea. The species was identified by morphological traits and molecular sequencing. A bifurcated tail distinguishes A. bicaudatus from its congeneric species. To confirm species identification, we determined the partial 18S ribosomal DNA sequence of the specimens and compared with those obtained from other Aphelenchoides species available on GenBank.","PeriodicalId":30453,"journal":{"name":"Animal Systematics Evolution and Diversity","volume":"32 1","pages":"253-257"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70779409","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Deep-water samples were collected in fishing nets at depths ranging between 20 and 200 m along the coasts of the East Sea in Korea from 1976 to 1993. The two species found in this study represent new records for Korea: Paragorgia arborea (Linnaeus, 1758) in the class Anthozoa, and Stylaster profundiporus Broch, 1936 in the class Hydrozoa. Two families, Paragorgiidae and Stylasteridae, are also newly recorded in Korea. Furthermore, the species name of another cold-water gorgonian species, Primnoa pacifica (Kinoshita, 1907) in the family Primnoidae, is amended in this report. The two newly recorded cold-water coral species from Korea are described in detail based on their morphological characteristics. Paragorgia arborea is characterized by its growth form, medulla and cortex, zooid dimorphism, canal system, and spicule composition. Stylaster profundiporus is distinguished by its external skeletal characteristics, such as the coordination of dactylopores and gastropores, presence or absence of gastrostyles and dactylostyles, cyclosystem orientation, ampullar position, gastropore tube shape, and coenosteal texture.","PeriodicalId":30453,"journal":{"name":"Animal Systematics Evolution and Diversity","volume":"32 1","pages":"197-206"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70779810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specimens of both sexes were recently obtained from an alpine wetland, Sumeunmulbaengdui, located in the Hallasan National Park, Korea, and newly registered as a Ramsar Wetland in 2015. The new species, B. jejuensis n. sp., differs from the type population of B. umiatensis from Alaska by the smooth margin of the anal operculum in both sexes, the peculiarly modified terminal seta on the distal endopodal segment of the male leg 3, the sword-like spinous seta on the distal endopodal segment of the male leg 4, and the presence of a setule row on the inner distal margin of the caudal rami in the female. Both sexes of the new species are described in detail with particular reference to the male characters. A revised key to the seven species of the genus Bryocamptus Chappuis, 1929 occurring in Korean waters is provided.","PeriodicalId":30453,"journal":{"name":"Animal Systematics Evolution and Diversity","volume":"32 1","pages":"219-229"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70779750","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
