Microarthridion species can be distinguished from each other by a combination of the number of the antennular segment, the number of the seta on the antennary exopod, and the armature of the thoracopod legs. Korean materials examined coincide well with M. littorale on these well-known characteristics. However, there are some minor differences in the ornamentations of the maxilliped and swimming legs. The specimens show additional sexual dimorphisms in the setae on enp-3 of P1 and exp-3 of P2-P4. Morphological diversity of so-called M. littorale is also discussed here with detailed features.","PeriodicalId":30453,"journal":{"name":"Animal Systematics Evolution and Diversity","volume":"32 1","pages":"207-218"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70779799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The former species is characterized by having a dactylus of the raptorial claw with six teeth, only the fifth thoracic somite with a single spinous lateral process, and the fifth abdominal somite with a pair of black dorsal patches. However, the latter species is characterized by having a dactylus of the raptorial claw with four teeth, and the fifth to seventh thoracic somites each with a single lateral process. Both species are described with figures and photographs. The present records are extensions of their geographical distributions and new records in Korea. Hence, a total of six species of the stomatopods have been recorded in Korea up to date: Oratosquilla oratoria, Faughnia formosae, Taku spinosocarinatus, Chorisquilla spinosissima, Kempella mikado, and Squilloides leptosquilla.","PeriodicalId":30453,"journal":{"name":"Animal Systematics Evolution and Diversity","volume":"32 1","pages":"234-239"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70779740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their morphologies are described in P. euagora for the first time in the world and re-described in H. fragifer with the color images of live zoeas. In this study, they show a general morphology of Pilumnoidea by having a long antennal exopod, an endopod of the maxillule with 1, 2+4 setae, an endopod of the maxilla with 3+5 setae, and a fork of the telson with two lateral armatures. However, the first zoea of P. euagora differs from other known zoeas of pilumnoid species including H. fragifer by having a long antennal exopod with a medial seta and spine, not two spines, and a fork of telson with two lateral setae, not a seta and spine. Such characteristics of the antennal exopod and the fork of telson are reported for the first time in the pilumnoid zoeas. A comparison between the first zoeal stage of H. fragifer in this study and that of Terada shows minute differences in the characteristics of the antennule and the fork of telson.","PeriodicalId":30453,"journal":{"name":"Animal Systematics Evolution and Diversity","volume":"32 1","pages":"133-140"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70779605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Of these, gene flow and natural selection during recruitment have strong influences on the genetic structure of seashore-dwelling species that have larval periods. Relative contributions of these two factors to the genetic structure of marine species would be determined mainly by the duration of larval stage. The relationship between larval period and genetic structure of population has been rarely studied in Korea. In this study, genetic variations of cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) were analyzed in two dominant species on rocky shore habitats in the Korean peninsula: periwinkle Littorina brevicula and acorn barnacle Fistulobalanus albicostatus. Both species are not strongly structured and may have experienced recent population expansion. Unlike periwinkle, however, barnacle populations have considerable genetic variation, and show a bimodal pattern of mismatch distribution. These results suggest that barnacle populations are more affected by local adaptation rather than gene flow via larval migration. The bimodal patterns of barnacle populations observed in mismatch distribution plots imply that they may have experienced secondary contact. Further studies on seashore-dwelling species are expected to be useful in understanding the evolution of the coastal ecosystem around Korean waters.","PeriodicalId":30453,"journal":{"name":"Animal Systematics Evolution and Diversity","volume":"32 1","pages":"105-111"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70779487","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As part of a recent study of this family, we newly report four species from South Korea: Embolemus hachijoensis Hirashima et Yamagishi, 1975; E. krombeini Olmi, 1996; E. sensitivus Xu, Olmi et Guglielmino, 2012; Ampulicomorpha thauma Rasnitsyn et Matveev, 1989. The genus, Ampulicomorpha Ashmead, 1893, is recorded for the first time in South Korea. Embolemus ruddii was previously recorded from South Korea because considered synonym of E. walkeri. However, in recent years the two species were separated and E. ruddii was considered absent in the far east, where on the contrary E. walkeri is present. Therefore, five species in two genera are now recognized as the South Korean embolemid fauna. Clausidium maximus n. sp. is an associate of a burrowing decapod of the genus Callianassa living on the Korean coast of the Yellow Sea and has, as diagnostic characters, two inner setae on the second endopodal segment of legs 2-4, nine elements on the third exopodal segment of leg 4, an inner seta on the second exopodal segment of male leg 1, and a relatively large body size, exceeding 2.0 mm in the female. Hippomolgus limiticus n. sp. was found in the bottom sediments in the East China Sea. It is similar to H. furcifer G. O. Sars, but distinghuishable from the latter species by having shorter caudal rami, 4-segmented female maxilliped, and inner coxal spine (instead of seta) on legs 2 and 3.
