The network has to be verified whether it functions as it should - i.e. whether some intermediary device in not misconfigured. It is a difficult task, because various scenarios must be tested, which takes time. Fortunately, there are tools that help to automate this process. However, the existing tools are mostly oriented towards generation of specific periodic traffic for network performance analysis, and it is difficult to use them for functional verification of the network. Therefore, we propose in this paper a new method, along with the corresponding tool, which is targeted towards generation of certain traffic and analysis of the network response to verify its function. The primary focus of the method is for testing of local area networks, which usually consists of switch devices. The experimental results proved that the proposed tool is usable to verify specific functional aspects of the switched networks. Calibration was applied to a variable-gain amplifier (VGA), and it was aimed at the input offset voltage. The first part of the paper brings motivation for our research. Consequently, fundamentals of the proposed method and its implementation in 130 nm CMOS technology node are explained. The whole system operates with the supply voltage of 0.6 V. Then, verification results obtained mainly by simulations and partly obtained by the measurement of prototype chips. In all simulations, Monte Carlo analysis was used in the temperature range from −20°C to 60°C. With the use of calibration, the input offset voltage distribution mean value ranges between $299mu V$to $413mu V$, and standard deviation ranges between $356mu V$ - to $802mu V$. It makes use of the notions of fuzzy logic such as fuzzy sets, membership functions and membership degrees. Truth values represented by membership degrees may be any real number between 0 and 1. Effective definition of membership degrees through membership functions for particular applications requires a tool able to set membership functions and to generate inputs for various knowledge discovery algorithms. Similarly, various algorithms for making fuzzy rules and validating are required as well. In addition, modifications have to be possible as research in this scientific area is active. Since many fuzzy rule related algorithms and their modifications are not available for development of programs, software library Fuzzy Rule Miner is presented in this paper. This software library is written in Java and it can be used for helping students with fuzzy logic related calculations, fuzzy rule discovery and the use of fuzzy rules. The answers are verified by more than ten years of author's experiences in developing of education e-learning projects, organization of popularization and education activities such as “Days of experiments”, courses and competitions about robots and electronics. The attention is focused on courses called “Build a Robot”, “Electronics as a game”, and “Building and programming robots” for the target groups of elementary and primary school pupils.
