Oxidative and non-oxidative metabolic contributions to 2000 m rowing ergometry have been studied previously in rowers of various abilities and using different methods, but never on a group of elite athletes. The results of this study have practical implications for athlete profiling, sport classification and time trial performance interpretation.","PeriodicalId":30428,"journal":{"name":"South African Journal of Science and Technology","volume":"33 1","pages":"1"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70517215","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hierdie studie ondersoek die bydrae wat ’n bykomende belasting op die mynwese kan lewer. In die verlede is aandag aan die stygende vraag na waterhulpbronne deur middel van aanbodkantmeganismes gegee. Myne is die grootste besoedelaar van drinkwater in Suid-Afrika en die vraag is of dit steeds die aangewese manier is om die probleem te probeer oplos. Hierdie studie stel voor dat die owerheid eerder ’n bykomende belasting op myne behoort te hef en ondersoek dan wat die uitwerking daarvan op die vraag na water sal wees, sowel as op besoedeling, en watter effek dit op die land se ekonomie, die onderskeie nywerheidsektore en verbruikers sal he, en in besonder op die heel armes van die bevolking. Die navorsing het gevorderde ekonomies algemene ewewigsmodellering gebruik om die probleem empiries te ondersoek. Die resultate van die model is beduidend vir die scenario’s wat bestudeer is, beide op die kort en die lang termyn. Daar is bevind dat ’n bykomende belastingheffing op die verbruik van water deur myne wel die gewenste resultate sal lewer, met min negatiewe gevolge vir die bedryf en die land as geheel.","PeriodicalId":30428,"journal":{"name":"South African Journal of Science and Technology","volume":"33 1","pages":"9"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70517309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Om hierdie rede bestaan daar op nasionale vlak ernstige kommer oor die hoe uitvalsyfer, asook onbevredigende wiskundeprestasie op beide skool- en tersiere vlak. Hierdie artikel bied ’n kritiese refleksie op die eensydige wyse waarop assessering in wiskunde tans plaasvind. In die eerste deel van die artikel word krities besin oor die eensydige fokus op ’n kwantitatiewe benadering in wiskundeklaskamers. Daarna verskuif die fokus na ’n beskrywing van en kritiese refleksie oor kwalitatiewe assessering in wiskunde. Die meriete van ’n gekombineerde kwantitatiewe + kwalitatiewe benadering tot leerfasilitering in wiskundeklaskamers word uitgestip. Daar word geargumenteer dat daar wegbeweeg behoort te word van ’n positivistiese na ’n positiewe benadering in wiskundeassessering en dat die eng fokus op ’n kwantitatiewe syfer of simbool as aanduider van ’n leerder se potensiaal om in wiskunde te presteer nie voldoende is nie.
