The study aims to analyze the features of the neologization process of the beauty industry discourse in modern English as one of the aspects of the advertising discourse. The object of the study was a collection of 250 thematically relevant neologisms gained as a result of continuous sampling on the Internet. The methods of analysis were descriptive and comparative ones, as well as the methods of continuous sampling and linguo-statistical calculations. Results. The findings of the research indicate the factors determining the intensity of the neologization process of the beauty industry discourse in modern English, single out the thematic clusters of neologisms and the areas of their use, identify the correlation between parts of speech of the new words, their structural-semantic and lexico-grammatical features, as well as the most productive word formation processes. Conclusion. The dynamic development of the beauty industry as a reflection of the political, economic and socio-cultural changes taking place in the world determines the intensity of the neologization process of the discourse under study. The replenishment of the language lexical layer with neologisms is carried out through the word formation processes, such as mainly compounding, affixation, blending, layering of the word meaning. The most part of the neologisms are nouns that denominate the rapidly emerging new phenomena and trends in cosmetology and aesthetic medicine.","PeriodicalId":303001,"journal":{"name":"Modern Linguistic and Methodical-and-Didactic Researches","volume":"2009 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125640964","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article is devoted to the description of the means of expressing subjectivity in engineering discourse. Attention is focused on the evaluative component of cognitive activity, namely, hedonistic, normative, utilitarian, teleological, psychological, aesthetic and ethical assessments. The stated goal seems relevant, since it touches upon the currently significant problem of the specifics of reflecting individual cognitive and pragmatic prerequisites of linguistic modeling of reality in professional speech. Results. Based on the material of German-language scientific and technical texts, the linguistic specifics of various types of assessment are analyzed. The unit of analysis is a terminological fragment containing an indication of the attitude of the author of the message to inventions, their sphere of service, processes, scientific ideas, and theories. Along with neutral nominations, there are a sufficient number of metaphorically reinterpreted units in the German language, indicating the emotional attitude of the author to the subject of speech. Conclusions. The analysis of the factual material allowed us to conclude that the cognitive basis for the existence of subjectivity in engineering discourse is the orientation of the researcher on evaluation scales, each of which reflects the degree of compliance of a parameter with the norm and is characterized by gradation having various forms of linguistic expression. The most significant scales in the framework of professional communication are normative, utilitarian and teleological. This is due to the orientation of scientific research on the usefulness and expediency of inventions for society, their positive impact on the standard of living, as well as the need to unify scientific search algorithms involving the establishment of a set of norms and rules in a certain subject area.","PeriodicalId":303001,"journal":{"name":"Modern Linguistic and Methodical-and-Didactic Researches","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131029381","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our research is aimed at considering the problem of borrowing English words (anglicisms) in German. On the basis of modern German texts of different genres (slogans of firms and enterprises, speeches of public figures in the media, etc.), an attempt is made to analyze some of the problems dealing with distortions of the standard German language. Results. Over the centuries, as a result of political and economic changes in the German-speaking countries, the German language has been significantly influenced by other languages, and a large number of foreign words have entered its vocabulary. Today, in the lexical system of the German language, there is an excessive amount of English borrowings. Some linguists and vocabulary researchers classify and treat German as a recipient language. At present, there are cases when English words are used as a standard, and even the term Denglisch has appeared, i.e. combination of two languages (Deutsch+Englisch = German + English). The article deals with the problems of the phenomena of linguistic purism, analyzes the research of the German Linguistic Society (VDS), which opposes the excessive dominance of foreign words. Every year, the Society awards prizes for the creation of new words by mixing German and foreign languages, in particular English, and the peculiarities of their translation. We have identified the “words of the year” that influenced the German language in one way or another, and we also consider problems that have a negative impact on the standard German language. Conclusion. Due to the rapid development of new technologies and industries, the role of English as the language of international communication in German society is growing. The influence of the English language on the language situation in Germany has been observed for several centuries. In the 21st century, this process is not weakening, but on the contrary, it is expanding. As a result of the study, it is concluded that the English language certainly has an impact on the development of the German language, but does not violate its uniqueness and naturalness of the lexical system.","PeriodicalId":303001,"journal":{"name":"Modern Linguistic and Methodical-and-Didactic Researches","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124985197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the popularity of fashion makeover shows on TV and on the Internet, communicative strategies that are employed by expert teams to boost participants’ self-esteem and motivate them to carry out actions that are beneficial for them have not yet come in the focus of research (e.g. participants could be encouraged to build a successful career). The paper argues that the discursive approach to analyse such shows makes it possible to identify communicative strategies to which experts resort on top of changing people’s looks (wardrobe overhaul, new hairstyle, etc.). Results. Drawing on the discourse analysis of the British makeover shows, it has been identified that fashion experts use a range of discursive strategies. The most common of them are Generalisation Strategy, Confessional Strategy and Complimenting Strategy. The results also demonstrate that members of the fashion team apply general rather than specialist knowledge when implementing these discursive strategies as it helps them to gain trust from participants and make participants more open to changes. Conclusion. Discourse analysis of the fashion makeover shows has indicated that beauty experts who create a new style for a participant use Generalisation Strategy, Confessional Strategy and Complimenting Strategy on top of different fashion tools (e.g. new clothes). These strategies help them to motivate people to change their self-deprecating attitude and carry out certain actions that are beneficial for them. Both new looks and discursive strategies enable makeover shows to reach the global communicative aim which is to bring about positive changes into personal and professional lives of participants.","PeriodicalId":303001,"journal":{"name":"Modern Linguistic and Methodical-and-Didactic Researches","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123131118","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The article provides an analysis of distinctive features of hendiadic pair-word units reversibility in Modern English. The concept of hendiadys is sufficiently well studied, and its lexical units are lexicographically mastered, but the traits of the reversibility of these units often remain beyond the scope of analysis. In this study, the issue of reversibility of hendiadic pairs is to be analyzed from the point of view of usual and occasional characteristics. Results. The question of hendiadic units reversibility has been studied extensively, but not enough to reveal the nature of their differentiation in modern English. The subject of the study is the systemic and structural features of the groups of hendiadic word pairs formation and reversibility including irreversible hendiadic units, reversible hendiadic units and freely constructed (occasional) hendiadic units. The empirical corpus of the study is composed of a number of primary and secondary sources and includes 623 hendiadic units. The selection criterion was the structure like A+l+B, where A and B are significant elements with las a link. Among the proposed groups, the most numerous is the group of reversible hendiadic pairs (311 units; 50%). The second place belongs to the group of irreversible hendiadic combinations (216 units; 34.8%) and, finally, freely constructed (occasional) pairs occupy the third position (96 units; 15.2%). 100% of hendiadic units in English are complex, i.e. consist of two or more components. Among the distinctive features of irreversible hendiadic units, stability and idiomaticity were found. In the reversible hendiadic units group, the feature of conditional stability prevails, including contractility (92 units; 30%), extensibility (92 units; 30%), substitutability with synonyms (77 units; 24%) and synchronous variability (50 units; 16%). The occasional hendiadic units are distinguished by irreproducibility (creativity), synchronous-diachronic diffuseness (“chronic” novelty), word-building derivativeness, substandard performance and nominative optionality. Conclusion. Hendiadic pair-word units are characterized by the duality of linguistic interpretation. On the one hand, they fall into the group of irreversible lexical units, while becoming stylistic figures of speech and formulaic expressions. At the same time, acquiring features of instability (conditional stability), they can be transformed into reversible lexical units. On the other hand, the studied structures also fall under the group of occasional units, i.e. freely constructed combinations.","PeriodicalId":303001,"journal":{"name":"Modern Linguistic and Methodical-and-Didactic Researches","volume":"478 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132659105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Kingdom is reforming the educational system, the problems of which are largely associated with the choice of the language of instruction. The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the sociolinguistic situation of a multilingual society and the language policy of the Moroccan state. Results. In the context of multilingualism, in the second decade of the new century, after thirty years of Arabization, the authorities announced the expansion of the use of French in education. There are currently two main written languages in the country: classical / standard Arabic and French. Berber (tamazigt), is in the stage of revival of written culture and Moroccan Arabic (darija), which is in the stage of development of writing - two native languages of the inhabitants of the country. The article examines the interaction of all these languages. The functional characteristics of all interacting languages are given, their role in the language policy of the state. Conclusion. This article examines the functional and semantic categorie of taxis and subcategorie of phasing in the aspect of their intercategorial interaction and integration. Results. The German statements with prepositional deverbatives and phase indicators were examined. In the course of the study, it was revealed that in the statements with prepositional deverbatives, in the presence of various phase indicators (phase verbs, phase analytical constructions, phase attributes, phase adverbials), phase-taxis situations of simultaneity and non-simultaneity are actualized. The actualized phase-taxis situations of simultaneity and non-simultaneity mark the phase determination of verbal actions and processes, in particular, the ingressive, middle or egressive phase of their implementation or course. Conclusion. In German statements with prepositional deverbatives containing different phase indicators, it is possible to actualize six variants of phase-taxis categorial situations of simultaneity and non-simultaneity (ingressive-phase-taxis, egressive-phase-taxis and phase-taxis and categorical situations of simultaneity and non-simultaneity, explicating the middle phase of the flow or implementation of verbal actions).","PeriodicalId":303001,"journal":{"name":"Modern Linguistic and Methodical-and-Didactic Researches","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122131111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper considers the peculiarities of the development of polysemy of 200 Russian (100 substantive and 100 verbal) and 200 English (100 substantive and 100 verbal) most frequent lexemes taken from the Frequency Dictionary of S.A. Sharov and the lists of frequency nouns and verbs of the British National Corpus. The development of polysemy in Russian and English is considered from the point of view of the integral theory of polysemy, according to which polysemy exists at two levels: lexical and lexico-grammatical (part-of-speech) in the form of lexical and lexico-grammatical polysemy. The latter exists in two types: lexico-grammatical polysemy proper and lexico-grammatical variation. Results. With the help of the comparative-parametric method of linguistic research developed by the Voronezh Theoretical and Linguistic School, the peculiarities of the development of lexical and lexical-grammatical polysemy in the compared languages are described. Lexical polysemy is considered from the point of view of the average sememic volume of semanthemes, as well as the development of denotative and connotative polysemy. Lexico-grammatical polysemy is considered from the point of view of the development of lexico-grammatical polysemy proper, as well as lexico-grammatical variation. The parts of speech at the level of which the development of lexico-grammatical derivation occurs in both languages are determined. The description is carried out in groups, depending on the volume of their semanthemes. Small-seme, multi-seme, hyper-seme and super-hyper-seme Russian and English substantive and verbal lexemes are studied. Conclusion. On the basis of the integral index of national-specific peculiarities and the scale of the degree of manifestation of national-specific peculiarities developed within the framework of the comparative-parametric method of linguistic research, it was found that in terms of lexical polysemy, national differences can be recognized as noticeable, while in terms of lexical-grammatical polysemy, they are bright.","PeriodicalId":303001,"journal":{"name":"Modern Linguistic and Methodical-and-Didactic Researches","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125157146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
