Primary objective of proposed algorithm is to design an optimal state feedback closed loop system which embodies a set of desired time domain specifications. First stage of the algorithm comprises of desired time response model formulation, with aim that it embodies a given set of time domain specifications. In second stage, optimal selection of elements of weighting matrices \"Q\" and \"R\", used in standard LQR design procedure are carried out with objective of minimizing the error between designed responses and the desired response models. In present work, optimal selection of weighting matrices elements is formulated in an optimization framework which is solved by the application of a simple, parameter-less population based optimization technique called Jaya algorithm. The proposed algorithm reduces the tedious selection process of LQR weighting matrices elements. Optimal tuning of LQR weighting matrices elements is based on minimization of objective function which is formulated with objective of achieving a designed state feedback closed loop system response as close to that a desired time response model. The proposed algorithm has been illustrated for design of a state feedback load frequency controller (LFC) in two area deregulated power system with aim of achieving a given set of time domain specification. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by carrying out design and simulation for a bilateral contract scenario in two area deregulated power system. Obtained results show that the designed closed loop system responses closely match with that of the desired time response models with minimum control effort and less computation time.","PeriodicalId":301431,"journal":{"name":"2019 29th Australasian Universities Power Engineering Conference (AUPEC)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134291150","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, a resilient infrastructure must be constructed to reduce power system damages which directly impacts on the social and economic lives of people. In this paper, a new framework called withstand, respond, adapt, and prevent (WRAP) is presented to evaluate and improve the resilience of distribution networks following a review on existing studies. This resilience enhancement may happen through microgrid and multi- microgrid development in planning or operation stages. Each element of the WRAP framework is responsible for the improvement of the power system resilience in terms of its own attributes and resilience evaluation index. Furthermore, the WRAP framework is defined on the basis of a flowchart with respect to conditional statements. The WRAP framework can be a helpful solution in measuring the resiliency of the power system in terms of robustness, rapidity, adaptability, and predictability. Finally, a case study considering energy-not- supplied as a resilience evaluation index is presented.","PeriodicalId":301431,"journal":{"name":"2019 29th Australasian Universities Power Engineering Conference (AUPEC)","volume":"153 12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131285931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The simulation results for light reflection are obtained by using Opti-wave finite difference time-domain (Opti-FDTD) software. These nano-grating structures have different shapes, such as triangular, trapezoidal, pillar and parabolic. These nano-grating profiles work as a multilayer anti-reflective coating for GaAs solar cells and reduce the light reflection from the surface of the panel and increase the light trapping capacity inside the solar cell. These structures allow the gradual change in refractive index and provide a high transmission and less reflection of light that confirms excellent anti-reflective coating and increased light trapping capacity inside the cell substrate. For this simulation, different periodic shaped arrangements were made to obtain the higher conversion efficiency, the factors considered while develop the design are the aspect ratio (AR), thickness of the nano-grating structure and duty cycles. The simulation result shows that the light reflection loss in pillar shaped nano-grating structures having 150 nm of height and a 50% period (i.e., duty cycle) is ~0.5% only, which is the lowest reflection loss obtained, when compared with the triangular and trapezoidal shaped nano-grating structures, it is approximately 38% more efficient in trapping the incident light.","PeriodicalId":301431,"journal":{"name":"2019 29th Australasian Universities Power Engineering Conference (AUPEC)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124592790","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, as the converter interfaced photovoltaic (PV) generation increases, the system inertia reduces. This may result in system failures, especially for islanded micro-grid. Virtual inertial control (VIC) technology, which enables PVs to mimic the characteristics of synchronous generators (SG), has drawn increasing attention. Nevertheless, the implementation of a traditional VSG strategy typically requires a constant PV power reserve, causing unnecessary production loss during system steady states. Although VIC can also be effectively implemented by utilizing an energy storage system (ESS). The high cost is still hindering its large-scale integration. In this paper, a forecasting based virtual inertia control (FB-VIC) strategy is proposed, which enables the PV system to serve as an alternative inertia supplier without using any ESS. PV generation is pre-reserved based on the load forecasting results. The reserved PV power and SG are coordinated to perform frequency regulation. A simulation model is built to simulate the proposed FB-VIC method during a system contingency. The simulation results reveal that the proposed method can reduce the instantaneous SG power capacity over 40%. In addition, the proposed control method limits the frequency oscillation in a smaller range, which improves the system dynamic stability.","PeriodicalId":301431,"journal":{"name":"2019 29th Australasian Universities Power Engineering Conference (AUPEC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129903680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Policies to produce green electricity have led to the integration of non-conventional generating resources into the networks. However, non-conventional generators, like solar and wind, have intermittent power export due to their stochastic nature. This paper presents an OPF approach for modern grids integrated with conventional and non-conventional generating resources considering environmental impacts. Different loading and generation scenarios are considered for solving the probabilistic OPF using MATPOWER for an IEEE 30-bus transmission network. The results highlight the most economical mix of different generators thereby reducing the overall operational cost of the system.","PeriodicalId":301431,"journal":{"name":"2019 29th Australasian Universities Power Engineering Conference (AUPEC)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129090050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The emphasis is primarily on electronically interfaced DG (EI-DG) units like DFIG connected wind generator, PV system and battery storage. The power sharing is mainly based on locally measured signals without communications. The inverter connected to the battery energy storage system (BESS) changes the frequency of the network with the change in load demand. The real power of each DG unit is controlled based on a frequency-droop characteristic and a complimentary frequency restoration strategy. A systematic approach to develop a small-signal dynamic model of a multiple-DG microgrid, including a real power management method, is also presented.
