Resonator modes are determined as the eigen-functions of the round-trip operator and may be calculated by means of numerical linear algebra. Corresponding complex eigen-values determine the wavelength shifts relative to reference value and damping factors. Dispersion elements, for example, Bragg mirrors in VCSEL result in dependence of propagation operator on the wavelength and damping factor. We can determine the round-trip operator in this case also, but unknown values of the wavelength and damping factor enter into the operator by a complicated manner. Trial-and-error method for determination of wavelength shifts and damping factors is possible but it is very laborious method. The proposed proximate numerical method for calculation of resonator modes is based on solution of linear eigen-problem for the round-trip operator with reference wavelength and zero damping. The wavelength shifts and damping factors can be calculated by simple formulae using eigenvalues obtained and previously computed effective length of the resonator. Calculations for anti-guided VCSELs were executed for model verification","PeriodicalId":301144,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of LFNM 2005. 7th International Conference on Laser and Fiber-Optical Networks Modeling, 2005.","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123554438","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We study the lasing eigenvalue problems for such PMs as electromagnetic field boundary value problems formulated in special manner, which enables one to extract not only natural frequencies but also thresholds of optical modes. The problem is reduced to an infinite matrix equation of the Fredholm second kind. Then we use a secant method to compute the roots of truncated determinant equation that converge to the eigenvalues of original problem when the determinant size is taken progressively larger. Here, all modes in a circular PM composed of M microdisks split into 2M independent symmetry classes. Coupling of microcavities leads to the shift in frequencies and modification of thresholds in comparison to the single microdisk. With carefully tuned separation it is possible to achieve a considerable reduction of thresholds in PMs composed of three and four microdisks","PeriodicalId":301144,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of LFNM 2005. 7th International Conference on Laser and Fiber-Optical Networks Modeling, 2005.","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126831379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was shown that in the presence of resonance detunings in channels of interaction and with taking into account of inhomogeneous broadening of resonant transition lines the process of stationary gained signal pulse forming is accompanied with signal carrier frequency pulling to the value that is corresponding some condition. This relates frequency detunings with transition central frequencies and differs from such conditions for Raman scattering. In some cases. Satisfaction of this condition provides the effective conversion of pump pulse energy into signal one. Depends on frequency detuning values one- or two-pulse structure will arise in signal channel.
