A /spl sim/240 nm thin layer of p-type contact was formed on GaAs bulk wafer using Au-Zn-Au layer. Especially, the investigation of group velocity and group index in such deformed fibers are necessary. For that reason a method to solve the full vectorial wave equation in an elliptical coordinate system is presented. The analysis is done by the method of lines where the wave equation is derived from the generalized transmission line equations. The solutions are obtained by one dimensional discretization and by introducing Fourier expansions in the wave equation. Results are presented for dielectric elliptical waveguides with different eccentricities.","PeriodicalId":301018,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2001 3rd International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (IEEE Cat. At the same time, it is necessary that the IST Programme accomplish its aims in realising the benefits of the information society for Europe both by accelerating its emergence and by ensuring that the needs of individuals and enterprises are met. A ready-made solution for tackling both issues above is available in the form of IDEAL-IST, an EU funded project, set up in 1996, which reduces the barriers faced by organisations wishing to participate in the IST programme. The project will accompany the IST Programme throughout its whole duration and serve as a central mediator between the European Commission, national institutions of countries associated to the programme and potential or successful proposers.","PeriodicalId":301018,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2001 3rd International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (IEEE Cat. This results in a significant improvement in the QD laser structure properties. Also if the distance between the energy states considerably exceeds the value of the thermal energy, \"fizzing\" carriers in the power window about kT can be avoided. Theoretical and experimental research into QD lasers has been conducted over many papers and most attention has been given to the amplification phenomenon in QDs and a definition of the threshold currents. The processes of carrier capture and escape play an essential role in the dynamics of quantum well lasers. In QD lasers these processes have a large influence too. In particular, the escape processes can cause the spatial hole burning effect. In this work we present a three-level transmission-line model of the QD laser. Using this model we study numerically the influence of carrier capture-escape processes on optical response, modulations and current watt (CW) characteristics from QD lasers.","PeriodicalId":301018,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2001 3rd International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (IEEE Cat.
