Tourism development in Bali is accused of being the cause of the destruction of the agricultural sector due to the large number of agricultural land that has been converted into built-up land. Southeast Bali is one of the areas experiencing land changes in its coastal areas; this can be seen in the reduction in agricultural land in the area. This research uses the remote sensing method to conduct research in the Southeast Bali region. The remote sensing method is effective because it can cover a broad research area, and data can be accessed free of charge by the United States Geological Survey. The images used in this study are Landsat 5 and 8 satellite images. The method used in this study is the maximum likelihood method, which is carried out to identify and classify land use classes. The results show that the building class increases dominant land use from 1995 to 2021, then the most significant land-use change is found in the vegetation area. The results obtained in this study indicate that the accuracy of Landsat 5 and 8 is still quite good. This can be seen from the overall accuracy, which is 92%.","PeriodicalId":300790,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine Research and Technology","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127075387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Plastic waste has accumulated and been floating in the ocean for a long time can cause the debris to degrade into tiny particles called microplastics. The impact of microplastics is the contamination of marine biota such as fish, driving damage to the digestive tract, reducing growth rates, inhibiting enzyme production, and can affect reproduction and cause physical and chemical damage such as damage to the immune system and blockage of the digestive tract. The study was conducted to determine the characteristics and abundance of microplastics in pelagic fish in the fish market. Microplastics were identified and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Eight types of fish were found: Decapterus macarellus, Sarda orientalis, Selar boops, Sardinella lemuru, Auxis spp., Hemiramphus lutkei, Selar crumenophthalmus, and Megalaspis cordyla. From 144 fish samples collected from the fish market, 94 fish were contaminated with microplastic, and 50 fish were not contaminated. There are four types: film, fiber, fragment, foam, and fiber macroplastics. The highest abundance was found in Selar boops 2.00 ± 2.44, and the lowest was in Hemiramphus Lutkeni 0.89 ± 0.76.","PeriodicalId":300790,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine Research and Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126293755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is of course closely related to the population growth in this region. As an interrelated effect, the high intensity of population growth in Badung Regency is also in line with the increasing volume of waste along with the rate of population growth, technological improvement, socio-cultural activities, and the economic growth of the community. Garbage generated from land and distributed to the sea becomes marine debris. The marine debris usually comes from rivers and generally a type of plastic waste. If marine sustainability is polluted by substances generated by waste continuously with large volumes in high concentrations, it can cause damage to the balance of the sea. The purposes of this research were: (1) to determine the characteristics and concentration of waste on land and river borders and (2) to find out how much potential waste enters the sea because of land activities in Badung Regency, Bali Province. Field data collection was carried out for 2 months by using the method developed by CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization) then the data was analyzed by using the Generalized Additive Model (GAM) regression model. The research found that garbage from land activities in Badung Regency was generally dominated by 32% non-plastic waste and 68% plastic waste. This plastic waste was generally found in the form of fragments, which was 83% and 17% was found to be in whole condition. The potential for the entry of marine waste was linear and significant in the source variables of potential waste in the form of total population, distance of points from settlements, distance of points from market and distance of points to tourism.","PeriodicalId":300790,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine Research and Technology","volume":"172 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123472751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

MJO is categorized into strong MJO and weak MJO whose occurrences can be identified by Outgoing Longwave Radiation (OLR). Strong MJO also has a relationship with wind and Sea Surface Temperature (SST), so that MJO events affect wind and SST. Studies on strong MJO have been conducted but in a short period, narrow research area, and only one related variable, namely the relation between MJO and precipitation The purpose of this study is understanding the relation between MJO with wind speed and SST in Indonesian Seas for the period 2003 - 2020. The data used are carried out using remote sensing technology. The research data was conducted using filtered, then analyzed by the Hovmöller diagram, and finally analyzed by correlation analysisThe research area, namely the Indonesian Seas, consists of regions A (Western Sea of Sumatera), region B (North Java Sea), region C (Southern Sea of Java), region D (Sulawesi Sea), region E (Banda Sea), region F (Aru Sea), and region G (North Papua Sea). The results of the study show that there is a relationship between OLR, wind speed, and SST where the relation between OLR and wind speed gets mostly fluctuating values, where there are negative values as well as positive values, and the relation between OLR and SST is inversely proportional.","PeriodicalId":300790,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine Research and Technology","volume":"422 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133941241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The changes were triggered due to an increase in population and community activities such as industry, housing, ports, cultivation, transportation, farms, agriculture, tourism, and so on centered in the coastal area and become the center of Indonesia's economy. Remote sensing technology is one of the right ways for monitoring activities in the near term. This research aims to map the change of coastal land use in Rungkut district, Surabaya, in 2013 and 2019 using high-resolution satellite imagery of SPOT imagery. The method of classification of coastal land use two types of supervised classification, namely Minimum Distance and Maximum Likelihood. Land use class obtained in this study as many as six classes, namely mangrove, settlement, pond, green open space, the body of water, and industry. The results showed that using two different algorithms gave a difference in classification results. The largest land-use change from classification with Minimum Distance method is in mangrove and body of water with +231,80 and –230,89 ha, while the classification result with the method of Maximum Likelihood the change of the largest land use is in mangrove class and ponds respectively +202,41 and –210,89 ha. Accuracy test using error matrix obtained by 85,50% with kappa coefficient 0,78 on the classification result of coastal land use using Minimum Distance algorithm and for Maximum Likelihood algorithm obtained accuracy of 89% with Kappa coefficient is 0,84. It is demonstrated that by using the algorithm, Maximum Likelihood accuracy on the land use map is very good.","PeriodicalId":300790,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine Research and Technology","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121527884","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The researh of carbon storage in the Karang Sewu mangrove forest is required to support government policies in mitigating blue carbon. Research about above ground and below ground carbons in the Karang Sewu mangroves has not provided spatial information, and one of the techniques that can be used is remote sensing with Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). This research used SAR Sentinel-1A C-Band sensor imagery to estimate above-ground carbon in mangroves because it can penetrate the canopy to branch vegetation so that the backscatter value is not disturbed by water on the surface. The purpose of this study was to determine the above-ground carbon value in the mangrove forest Karang Sewu, Bali,  using Sentinel-1A imagery. Estimation of above-ground carbon in SAR images using the sigma nought Vertikal Horizontal polarization method based on carbon estimation models from field data and image data. The best carbon estimator model is a polynomial model with the equation y = 0.1055x2 + 4.1507x + 43,691, R2 = 0.3347. The Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) error rate is 0,7. Based on the RMSE value, it can be concluded that the difference between the field carbon and the image carbon results is relatively small The estimation result of the total above-ground carbon value using Sentinel-1A imagery is 59.85 tons/ha.","PeriodicalId":300790,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine Research and Technology","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130824501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Bali, the waste problem is becoming an emergency. With the Bali Strait threatened by pollution from marine debris, data are urgently needed. This study aimed to determine the concentration and distribution of marine debris along the coastline of Badung, Tabanan, and Jembrana Regencies. The study was conducted in February 2021 on 18 beaches with a distance of  10 km between points and 8 points near river downstream areas (estuaries) which were determined randomly. The results showed that 92% of debris were plastic waste which was classed as soft plastic (33%), hard plastic (25%), plastic straps (4%), fishing gear (0.4%), and foam (30%) with an average overall concentration of 1.32 items/m². A total of 3318 items were fragments (86.3%) and 527 items were whole (13.7%). The dominant size class of debris along coastline surveyed was 2-4 cm2 (30.21%). The highest mean concentration of marine debris was 3.84 items/m² with the dominant waste class being foam fragments with 240 items. The lowest mean concentration was 0.14 items/m². Marine debris was distributed along the coastline at different concentration levels in each region, where Badung Regency had a relative concentration value ranging from 0-20%, Tabanan Regency had a relative concentration value ranging from 0-40%, and Jembrana Regency was the most affected area with a relative concentration value of 0-100%.","PeriodicalId":300790,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine Research and Technology","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130261025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many studies have been conducted on the relationship between SST and chlorophyll-a and the fluctuations in the catch of Lemuru fish, especially using satellite databased sensing technology. Most of the research using satellite data is done in a short-term period (not climatology), so there are still a lot of unanswered questions. One of them is: how the correlation between the fluctuation in the number of Lemuru fish catches is related to SST and chlorophyll-a in the ENSO and IOD periods. The purpose of this study is to determine the distribution of SST and chlorophyll-a concentrations and their relationship with the yield of Lemuru fish catches in the Bali Strait from 2009 to 2018. Aqua Moderate Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite data level 2 from Oceancolor and data on the number of fish caught in the Bali Strait from the National Fisheries Port (PPN) Pengambengan and UPT PPP Muncar. The method is used with correlation analysis between SST and chlorophyll-a to the number of Lemuru fish caught. The monthly average SST in Bali Strait waters from 2009 to 2018 was approximately 24,76 0C-30, 11 0C, with an estimated monthly chlorophyll-a concentration of 0,10 mg/m3-3,68 mg/m3. The spatial distribution of SST tends to be low in the southern Bali Strait and tends to be high in the northern Bali Strait. The spatial distribution of chlorophyll-a appears to have a high value in the near land area. The cross-correlation test between chlorophyll-a and the number of Lemuru catches showed a positive correlation yield at the 4th month lag. While the correlation of SST to the number of Lemuru fish catches shows a positive correlation at lag (-1).","PeriodicalId":300790,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine Research and Technology","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123911130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The importance of the existence of the benthic habitat requires identification and monitoring of the habitat's existence and status. One of the technologies that can be utilized is remote sensing technology, which is able to provide solutions to the limitations of conventional methods, such as time that is relatively long, costly, and difficult to reach remote and risky areas. Selection of sensing vehicles takes into consideration the needs and desired qualities because the sensors brought in to detect habitats have different abilities. Sentinel-2A imagery is an open-source satellite with a 10 m spatial resolution capability, while the image from Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) has a high spatial resolution of up to 1 cm per pixsel depending on flight level. The purpose of this study is to identify the degree of accuracy and the scattered conditions of the benthic habitat by the sentinel-2A imagery and the UAV imagery in mapping the benthic habitat in the shallow waters of Pemuteran. The two images for classification use classification based objects and accuracy tests using the confusion matrix method. Based on field observations, five kinds of habitat composition with vast dead corals, dead coral, rubble, biorock, sand, and stone sand are 13.63 ha, 1.45 ha, 0.87 ha, 6.05 ha, and 1.67 ha on the sentinel-2A imagery and 12.86 ha, 1.54 ha, 0.18 ha, 7.32 ha, and 1.76 ha on the UAV imagery. The Sentinel-2a's imagery capability in mapping the benthic habitat is adopted by 73.95%, whereas the UAV imagery is 81.51%. The value of accuracy obtained in the study shows the use of remote sensing data using both imagery can be used for the mapping of habitat benthic.","PeriodicalId":300790,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine Research and Technology","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127198682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

P. kauderni is listed as an endangered species in the red list category by the IUCN. P. kauderni is very dependent on microhabitats in the form of benthic animals (symbionts), namely sea urchins, sea anemones, and hard corals. Besides P. kauderni, other fish from the family Apogonidae also live in association with sea urchins. The purpose of this study was to examine the density of P. kauderni and associated biota and to calculate the density correlation between P. kauderni associated biota in the waters of Gilimanuk Bay, Bali. This study uses a modification of the Belt Transect method, with a transect of 50 meters long and 2.5 meters wide to the left and right. The total density of sea urchins was 0,088 ind/m2, the total density of Fibramia thermalis was 0,021 ind/m2, and the total density of P. kauderni was 0,071 ind/m2. Between P. kauderni and sea urchins there is a correlation with the value of r = 0,711 and a P-value of 0,031 < 0,05 which indicates that the large number of sea urchins will affect the number of P. kauderni in the waters. The correlation between density of P. kauderni and Fibramia thermalis worth r = 0,509 with P-value of 0,160 > 0,05, which means that the number of Fibramia thermalis has no effect on the number of P. kauderni.","PeriodicalId":300790,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine Research and Technology","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125358516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
