Two tectonic tsunami sources flank Bali Island: The Megathurst subduction zone in the south and the Back Arc Thurst subduction zone in the north. This study aimed to add information about the tsunami arrival time and the maximum height of the tsunami waves that hit the coast using COMCOT software as a disaster mitigation measure. Five scenarios were used in this study with the differences in the magnitude of tsunami-generating earthquakes. Results showed that the fastest affected shoreline by the tsunami in scenarios 1, 2, and 3 is the Tejakula Sub District shoreline, with a period of 5 minutes 41 seconds to 3 minutes 43 seconds. In scenarios 4 and 5, it was found on the Sawan Sub District shoreline for 2 minutes, 51 seconds to 56 seconds. The maximum run-up of tsunami waves that hit the shoreline in scenarios 1, 2, 3, and 4 are on the Kubu Sub District shoreline with run-up heights of 0.0095 m, 0.47 m, 1.5 m, and 3 m. In scenario 5, the highest run-up is on the Banjar Sub District shoreline, with a 67.6 m run-up height. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the magnitude of the tsunami-generating earthquake greatly influences the travel time and run-up height of the tsunami waves. The greater the magnitude of the tsunami-generating earthquake, the faster the travel time of the tsunami waves and the higher the run-up height.","PeriodicalId":300790,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine Research and Technology","volume":"10 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139348785","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The lack of technology fishermen use in the waters of the Bali Strait has resulted in the high potential of fish resources not being optimally utilized. This study aimed to determine potential fishing zones by utilizing Aqua MODIS satellite data which can detect SST and chlorophyll-a. The image data observed was from October to December 2018 to 2020. The method used is the Single Image Edge Detection Algorithm, where this algorithm is used to determine potential fishing areas designed to detect fronts in SST images. The results showed that in December 2018, 7 potential fishing points were produced, marked with a chlorophyll-a value of 0.25 mg/m3 and an SST of 29.25°C. In December 2020, 82 potential fishing points were produced, with a chlorophyll-a value of 0.31 mg/m3 and an SPL of 29.79°C. Validation was carried out by analyzing the result of image processing with fish catch data obtained from Pengambengan PPN, Muncar PPP, and Kedonganan TPI. SST, with a value of 27°C, is the ideal temperature for fish where when the temperature increases, the number of potential fish catch points decreases and vice versa. The distribution of chlorophyll-a content with a value of > 0.2 mg/m3 affects the number of potential fishing points, where the higher the chlorophyll-a content, the more fishing ground points and vice versa.","PeriodicalId":300790,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine Research and Technology","volume":"56 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139348651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The waters of Jumpai Beach are one of the areas in Klungkung, which is one area that is used by the surrounding population for fishing activities for fishermen to obtain fishery products. Remote sensing technology has been applied because of its effectiveness and the significance of its use in compiling and revising resource maps. It is also helpful to support resource planning and management. A bathymetry map is a map that describes the depth of the sea and is presented using contour lines. Contour lines are abstract lines connecting several locations or areas with the same height or depth. Remote sensing techniques are available to determine the ocean’s depth because the air has signals from the very bottom of the ocean with strong solid wavelengths. However, the penetration of electromagnetic energy is limited. Therefore, remote sensing techniques are adopted to infer water depth and shallowness. One of the satellites that can be used for bathymetry mapping is Landsat-8. Landsat imagery has a spatial resolution of 30 meters, complemented by the visible channels required to extract bathymetric maps. Accurate estimation of shallow water area bathymetry for the safety of small boat navigation such as fishing and for benthic studies. Remote sensing technology can be considered one of the most desirable alternative tools for bathymetry development.","PeriodicalId":300790,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Marine Research and Technology","volume":"44 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139348764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
