A new approach based on frequency diversity combining at correlator level is proposed to enhance carrier phase estimation robustness. The proposed method works on the fact that in a multipath environment the fading observed in different frequency bands is independent of each other. The uncorrelated nature of signal power fluctuations can be exploited to combine their correlator outputs to eventually enhance carrier phase estimation. The proposed method is tested on different data sets collected in static and kinematic scenarios. The Phase Lock Indicator enhancement and the carrier Doppler error reduction obtained are analyzed and compared with those from single frequency tracking. Results show that the number of carrier phase cycle slip events decrease when employing the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":300111,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Navigation Conference (ENC)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128007424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For example in railways for passenger information, in automotive for navigation or in aviation to precisely follow flight paths. These applications are mainly non-safety relevant because of a missing certification. In this paper a development strategy towards the certification of safety relevant applications in transportation with the example of railways is shown. For the certification of an application for transportation, several steps of a domain specific process based on the normative background to be analyzed have to be followed. Though this paper focuses on railways, the basic certification process in other domains is similar.","PeriodicalId":300111,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Navigation Conference (ENC)","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130172397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The polar angle and azimuth angle measurements are first to be obtained from the existing image sensor and then to estimate the projection position of light emitting diodes (LEDs). By these project points, the orientation information can be estimated with the least square methods. Whereas this concept has been proposed in the past using wide field-of-view (i.e., fisheye) cameras, this study uses a narrower field-of-view camera that is more commonly available on mobile devices. For testing purposes, an infrared camera was used to more easily separate the sky from surrounding buildings. Images are compared against a database of ideal skylines computed from a 3D building model and the database position whose skyline most closely matches the observed images is selected as the user's final location. Results indicate that median position errors of 10-14 m are possible depending on whether the 3D model contains errors and whether user heading is available.","PeriodicalId":300111,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Navigation Conference (ENC)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121785342","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this reason, a low-cost single-frequency GNSS equipment is used and the vehicle state is processed applying Precise Point Positioning (PPP). Within a Kalman filter, the PPP solution is coupled with signals of in-car sensors like wheel sensors to derive position accuracies of a few decimetres. A lane-level map matching onto a digital road map complements the state determination. The strategy and the outcome of the positioning tool are tailored to the use of Car2Car communication and the requirements of performing collision prediction.","PeriodicalId":300111,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Navigation Conference (ENC)","volume":"40 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131790043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors make the case that although the use of 3D FLS is not widespread at present, the rapid growth in the number, and sizes of offshore wind turbines presents a formidable challenge for the maritime industry. In order to prepare for increasingly crowded sea areas, stakeholders must investigate the potential application areas for such technologies that can enhance the safety of maritime operations in the vicinity of offshore installations. 3D FLS applications can be many and varied, as demonstrated by the discussion in the current work; these applications include improving safety, increasing the reliability and reducing the downtime of OWFs - important issues for both the maritime and offshore wind industries.","PeriodicalId":300111,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Navigation Conference (ENC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129703296","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The carrier phase measurements, which have millimetric precision, can be used for this purpose. However, these measurements have an unknown number of integer cycles named phase ambiguities, which have to be determined. Of all the methods known, LAMBDA is currently acknowledged as the most efficient method for determining these phase ambiguities. This method has been successfully applied mainly by using dual-frequency measurements (in L1 and L2). Alternatively, the L1 and L2 frequency measurements can be combined to create a new set of observables (wide-lane) with which the LAMBDA can also be applied. Using only the L1 frequency, LAMBDA is not enough to solve the ambiguities. In this situation, the method known as the Ambiguity Filter can be used, in conjunction with LAMBDA, to stabilize the solution obtained. Having the ambiguities solved, it is possible to determine the relative position between the GPS antennas and, thus, determine the attitude of a vehicle. The main motivation for using only L1 measurements is related with the fact that dual-frequency receivers are much more expensive than L1 only receivers. In this paper, the heading and pitch are estimated by using measurements in both L1 and L2, wide-lane and only in L1, in order to compare these three options and verify that the results obtained with L1 frequency, using the Ambiguity Filter, can achieve the same precision as the other two options.","PeriodicalId":300111,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Navigation Conference (ENC)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132075341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The platform is based on a multi-frequency multi-constellation GNSS receiver which can be deployed either as a fixed PC receiver or as an embedded portable one. The main feature of this platform is to provide to GNSS software developers the possibility to have a deeper control on receiver hardware and to replace all the provided software functionality with their own software modules. This is possible with the open interface protocol called Open GNSS Receiver Protocol (OGRP), which has been developed by Fraunhofer in the same project. The frequency band swept by a jamming signal can be significantly larger than the input bandwidth of the victim receiver. In this way, the jamming signal is significantly filtered and periodically enters and exits the receiver bandwidth. As a result, the jamming signal is perceived by the GNSS receiver as a form of pulsed interference. In this paper, Pulse Blanking (PB) is proposed as an effective tool for mitigating the impact of jamming on narrow band GNSS receivers. Several experiments involving real jamming signals have been conducted and the benefits of PB are empirically investigated. Finally, a real-time demonstration of PB in the presence of jamming is provided: PB is a low-complexity technique which can significantly improve the performance of a GNSS receiver even in the presence of strong jamming signals.","PeriodicalId":300111,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Navigation Conference (ENC)","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129137251","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For example, the update process of the filter requires a careful weighting of the GNSS measurements to work properly. This paper presents a method that initializes the weight of the GNSS measurements taking into account also the geometry of the constellation used for the states computation. Since the proposed method involves only the measurements covariance matrix related to the measurements, it is independent from the type of application and the number of states used within the Kalman filter.
