The purpose is to test new navigation signals and inter-satellite communication links and define the necessary protocols for a future network that will be capable of providing global coverage. The rapid development of the BDS brings a promising prospect for all kind of application and the fusion of multiple GNSSs will significantly increase the number of observed satellites, optimize the spatial geometry and improve continuity and reliability of positioning. However, how the BDS could enhance the position accuracy and precision is still under intensive investigation. In this study, we utilize PANDA receivers to evaluate BDS's performance and benefits in positioning at high latitudes. The car-borne kinematic and static positioning using a PANDA receiver and a choke-ring antenna were carried out between latitude 60-71 degrees in Finland and Norway (Helsinki, Oulu, Saariselka and Nordkapp). A part of the test is north of the Arctic Circle. Except for the car-borne test, another static test at the Metsähovi Geodetic Fundamental Station was made. The PANDA receiver shared one antenna with another geodetic GNSS receiver for a zero baseline test. We also used the Finnish Permanent GNSS network FinnRef that has 20 GNSS stations between latitudes 60 and 70 for evaluation purposes. FinnRef stations are equipped with Javad receivers and individually calibrated choke ring antennas. All the stations are able to tracks BDS, GPS, Galileo and GLONASS. In order to assess the precise positioning performance with current multi-constellation GNSS, the Positioning And Navigation Data Analyst (PANDA) software developed by GNSS research center, Wuhan University, is employed to analyze the GNSS data and demonstrate the BDS significant contribution to precise positioning with current multi-constellations. Different processing schemes of PANDA software were compared to the Bernese GNSS software solution.","PeriodicalId":300111,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Navigation Conference (ENC)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131206522","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, GNSS signal quality is degraded inside the metal body of a vehicle, which is where the antenna of a portable device is to be located. This article investigates the effect of antenna location on precise low-cost GNSS positioning for a road vehicle. We compare a roof-mounted GNSS receiver with an identical receiver having the antenna on the dashboard and a tailored smartphone also located inside the cabin; both the availability of raw carrier phase measurements and the resulting horizontal precise point positioning accuracy are evaluated. The test results show that the 90 % circular error probable is degraded by several meters inside the vehicle. Moreover, most of the evaluated accuracy metrics indicate that the low-cost GNSS receiver with antenna inside the cabin achieved a positioning accuracy at least 50 % better than the smartphone located next to it when using the same satellite systems.","PeriodicalId":300111,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Navigation Conference (ENC)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123503572","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the near future, higher traffic density is estimated, which may further contribute to this increase. Within the 3-year Project MTCAS, partners from industry and academia contribute to accident reduction by developing an e-Navigation based System for pro-active, predictive and cooperative collision avoidance. MTCAS is the abbreviation for Maritime Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System, which implies the basic idea of adopting the Airborne Collision Avoidance System (ACAS) implementation TCAS. However, MTCAS' operational principal aims at supporting the officer of the watch on a ship's navigational bridge in detecting and solving conflicts with other ships taking into consideration the prevailing circumstances of the environment and traffic but also include relevant rules and regulations, bathymetry, as well as Vessel Traffic Services (VTS). Different from TCAS, MTCAS does not automatically intervene in terms of issuing steering commands, but moreover supports seafarers in cooperatively finding safe and efficient trajectories, which is completely different - innovative - compared to the basic TCAS purpose. A comparing study between TCAS and MTCAS is performed and the outcomes are discussed in this paper.","PeriodicalId":300111,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Navigation Conference (ENC)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130445960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, indoor positioning is a very hard task. Without installing dedicated hardware into a building, indoor positioning is a problem with inherent ambiguity. Using Wi-Fi signals to calculate location is a classical and successful approach for localizing mobile devices in buildings. With this paper, however, we provide support for proximity detection using Wi-Fi, which is considerably less ambiguous and still sufficiently useful for many indoor location-based services. Additionally, presence-based positioning has seen a boost in adoption due to the invention of cheap dedicated devices for localization including iBeacon and similar Bluetooth 4.0 beacons. We provide a concept called Virtual Anchor Point, which is a low-dimensional representation of the essence of a point in signal space providing a presence-based location-aware system.","PeriodicalId":300111,"journal":{"name":"2016 European Navigation Conference (ENC)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130797287","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
