The project concentrated on two application functions, namely the power flow and the state estimation. One of the essential goals of the envisioned tool is to aid system operators by providing images of the system with easily identifiable characteristics related to violations of various operating limits. In addition, the tool is expected to illustrate deficiencies associated with the existing metering system both from the point of view of metering design as well as accuracy. The result is a user-friendly 3D graphic interface for the stated two power system applications. In power flow analysis mode, animation and bus contouring technique is used for visualizing power flows and bus voltages. In state estimation mode, color contour is used to visualize different observable islands and bad measurements which are identified through the largest normalized residuals test. Effectiveness of the tool is illustrated via different scenarios which are created using the IEEE 118 bus system as an example","PeriodicalId":299928,"journal":{"name":"MELECON 2006 - 2006 IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"41 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114121831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are p-q original theory, d-q transformation, modified or cross product formulation, p-q-r reference frame and vectorial theory. The obtention of the compensation current according to each formulation has been established. Next, the behavior of an active power filter (APF) implemented with those different control algorithms have been studied. The APF control strategies have been implemented in an experimental platform constituted by a 20 kVA power inverter and a 400 MHz digital signal processing (DSP) controller board. Results got from an unbalanced and non-sinusoidal three-phase four-wire system have been compared. The final analysis shows that, in general, the five theories present a different behavior, depending on the supply voltage, respect to the distortion. However, all of them widely decrease the waveforms distortion. Moreover, a more general compensation objective is possible. It obtains balanced and sinusoidal source current in any conditions of supply voltage","PeriodicalId":299928,"journal":{"name":"MELECON 2006 - 2006 IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114170819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This metric is an alternative to the classic hit rate (HR) and byte hit rate (BHR) that has been especially developed to measure the effectiveness of the cache when there is an admission control policy that decides if a new document that reaches the cache must be cached. Additionally, a second metric that computes the capacity of the admission control to reject documents that are referenced only one time or are modified from reference to reference, has been proposed. We have evaluated the ability of the metrics by means of simulation of a cache that considers the least recently used (LRU) replacement policy and an admission control that rejects the documents based on their size","PeriodicalId":299928,"journal":{"name":"MELECON 2006 - 2006 IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114238930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This approach enables us searching for a solution good enough with high probability instead of the best for sure in solving those problems with huge search spaces. Power distribution system control is such a problem, to which a near-optimal solution can be found by evolutionary search techniques. In this study we calculated node voltages and power losses of a sample system corresponding to all possible OLTC settings and capacitor on/off statuses. We obtained these solutions exactly and approximately and investigated the coincidences between the best 1%, the best 5%, and the best 10% of these solutions correspondingly. Results show that based on approximately-calculated node voltages and power losses a near-optimal solution can still be found to power distribution system control problem by an evolutionary search technique with considerable saving in total computation time","PeriodicalId":299928,"journal":{"name":"MELECON 2006 - 2006 IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference","volume":"2011 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121676046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
