The flow was highly subcooled at inlet temperature of 25°C using deionised water as the cooling fluid and aluminium as the heat sink material. The results showed that the microchannels can be operated beyond the heat fluxes that they were optimised, up to their critical heat fluxes before the onset of departure from nucleate boiling or CHF. The numerical code for heat flux partitioning model (RPI) was validated by the available experimental data and the agreement showed the capability of the model to predict accurately subcooled flow boiling in microchannels.","PeriodicalId":29937,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Hydromechatronics","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":5.1,"publicationDate":"2020-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42037926","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Emerging fields have led to personalised design of porous structures used, e.g., in biomaterials. Here, prefractal porous material to transport power-law fluids is studied. Materials formed by bundles of capillary tubes and dendritic networks of tubes are considered. As a result, approaches to quantity the permeability are presented in terms of void fraction of the material, maximum capillary diameter and fractal dimensions. Our approaches enable a better understanding of flow characteristics in these materials, and their consequences for designers of engineering applications such as for microfluidic devices.","PeriodicalId":29937,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Hydromechatronics","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":5.1,"publicationDate":"2020-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45888886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the first step, a PVT model was developed by ANSYS and the model was verified by matching the experimental data. Water has been employed as working fluid for PVT system. Outlet water temperature values obtained by experimentally and numerically have been compared. Mass flow rate, thickness of the material, pipe diameter and the pipe material have been assumed as independent variables for the optimisation study. As a result, the highest thermal output was obtained with a flow rate of 13 l/h. The highest thermal output was achieved by copper material with an output of 2.09% more than aluminium. In the analysis made for the pipe diameter, an output of 3.42% in the 8″ pipe compared to the 16″ pipe was obtained.","PeriodicalId":29937,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Hydromechatronics","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":5.1,"publicationDate":"2020-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45800508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For drive systems not requiring fast response, a hybrid pump-controlled system, that combines the advantages of both valve and pump-controlled systems, is proposed. As nonlinear behaviours are inevitable in most asymmetric cylinder drive systems, the hybrid pump-controlled system also suffers from such problems, and extra nonlinear behaviours are identified, for example, stall when the cylinder change its direction of motion. A simulation model of the hybrid pump-controlled asymmetric cylinder drive system is developed and used to investigate the system's simulation behaviours which are analysed and compared with the experimental test results. The energy efficiency of the hybrid pump-controlled system is compared with a comparable valve-controlled hydraulic system with the same hydraulic cylinder sizing. The outcome is to demonstrate the advantage of the hybrid pump-controlled system in energy-saving aspect, and the efficiency of the hybrid system is up to five times more than a conventional hydraulic system. Suggestions are given to improve the performance and stability of the hybrid pump-controlled system.","PeriodicalId":29937,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Hydromechatronics","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":5.1,"publicationDate":"2020-02-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43026643","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
