For surgical access to the area, the use of the coronal, Lynch-Howarth, glabellar “open sky”, “gull wings” and a combination of the last two are described. However, the severity of the trauma and mainly the neurological compromise of the patient will dictate the choice of the approach that allows functional and comprehensive repair of the affected region. In cases where there is no neurological compromise and it is not necessary to carry out a subcranial approach, the use of local approaches is justified, providing adequate visibility and direct access to the fractured region, allowing an adequate reduction and placement of fixing material. A clinical case of anterior frontal sinus wall fracture and NOE fracture are presented, performing the combination of the gull-wing and open-sky approach, described as butterfly wings, achieving adequate visibility and reconstruction.","PeriodicalId":299258,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Oral and Dental Sciences","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124411783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: A doubleblinded, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial was performed in order to examine patients having a mandibular third molar for extraction under local anesthesia. The patients were randomized for receiving a preoperative oral dosage of celecoxib or acetaminophen as the predictor parameter. The primary outcome parameter was postoperative pain assessed through a visual analog scale (VAS) at different time points. The secondary outcome parameter was the quantity of postoperative analgesics taken in both groups. Statistical analyses included descriptive statistics, the t test, and the Pearson c2 test. Significance was set at P < .05. Results: 60 patients were divided randomly into either celecoxib receiving group or acetaminophen receiving group. The postoperative pain scores in the celecoxib group receiving were significantly lower than those in the acetaminophen receiving group at 4, 6, 8, and 12 hours (P = .078, P = .0012, P = .0211, and P = .011, respectively). The number of patients who didn’t require any analgesics in the celecoxib receiving group was less than that in the acetaminophen receiving group (P =.0186). The average amount of rescue analgesic medication in the celecoxib group (0.6 0.8 dose) was significantly lower than that in the acetaminophen group (1.3 1.0 doses) (P = .002). The Kaplan-Meier curve (KM curve) was indicative of long-term survival of the patients receiving celecoxib compared to those who did not receive any rescue analgesic medication (P = .0055). Conclusions: Celecoxib, as the study reflects, has a significant pre-emptive analgesic effect, thus helpful in reducing the usage of postoperative analgesics after removal of the third molar.","PeriodicalId":299258,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Oral and Dental Sciences","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132681664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was carried out in randomly selected 3 dental colleges out of 6 pursuing post-graduation courses in NCR. A prior permission was obtained from the concerned college authorities. The study was conducted by assessing responses to 20 selected basic questions regarding BLS among M.D.S Staff, P.G Student, and B.D.S Staff. A questionnaire with 20 questions regarding the awareness and skills involved in BLS was used to assess the levels of awareness to BLS and its practical knowledge. The aspects on which they were interrogated were about the abbreviation of BLS, AED and EMS (Emergency Medical Service), sequential steps in BLS, assessment and resuscitation techniques with regard to airway, breathing, circulation in unresponsive victims of different age groups, techniques regarding removal of foreign body obstruction, recognition of early signs of stroke and acute coronary syndrome. Results: The findings of present study are somewhat similar to Chandrashekaran S et al., [1] who stated that medical, dental, nursing students & faculty in the study group were severely lacking in the awareness of BLS whereas in the present study BDS faculty and postgraduates of dental were same but MDS faculty were somewhat aware about BLS. On comparison MDS Faculty showed more awareness as compared to PG student and BDS faculty in this study. Conclusions: It is also equally important that teachers, school children, public and all lay persons from the community be taught the facts of basic life support and first aid.","PeriodicalId":299258,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Oral and Dental Sciences","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127073662","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two immunological parameters that were included were measurement of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) and interleukin (IL)-1β. Materials and Methods: A statistically significant no. of subjects were included in the study and further divided into two groups: Group-1: Vaping e-cigs (n=47) Group-2: Non-smokers (n=45). A structured questionnaire was used at baseline for data collection related to demographic and peri-implant data of each individual. Baseline parameters included Plaque Index, Bleeding on probing, probing pocket depth and peri-implant bone loss (PI, BOP, PD and PIBL respectively) for those vaping e-cigs and non-smokers with the aid of standardized digital radiographs. ELISA kit was used to assess immunologic parameters using sulcular fluid collected from peri-implant region (PISF). Results: Bleeding on probing (BOP) was found significantly high in non-smokers compared to the vaping group. But probing depth greater than 4mm and PIBL scores were significantly higher in vaping group than non-smokers. Mean concentrations of immunologic parameters were significantly higher in vaping group than in non-smokers. TNFα levels and IL-1β levels were found to have a positive correlation with bone loss around implants (PIBL). Besides TNFα also had a positive correlation with bleeding on probing in vaping group compared to non-smokers. Conclusions: Owing to the effect of nicotine on the peri-implant tissue, levels of inflammatory mediators as detected by ELISA test were found to be higher showing a greater amount of localized inflammatory tissue destruction and a compromised peri-implant area in vaping subjects. PISF concentrations were also found relatively higher than non-smokers.","PeriodicalId":299258,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Oral and Dental Sciences","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125416084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
