The current study looks into these aspects while discussing the technology usage and practice of digital immigrant educators in higher education. A survey was conducted with a structured questionnaire on the technology usage and teaching strategies implemented by the digital immigrant educators to teach digital natives in higher education. The findings reported that digital immigrant educators must be accustomed to the a) diverse needs of digital native students and b) use and applications of digital technologies in order to create and practice interactive and collaborative teaching environments.","PeriodicalId":29908,"journal":{"name":"International Research in Early Childhood Education","volume":"38 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2019-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82251573","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The high improbability of successful L2 acquisition among adults is the main point of strength that CPH enjoys. However, we have incidents of nativelikeness with individuals that began L2 acquisition years past the critical period (Note 2) in addition to supporting studies that show ultimate attainment among L2 learners is still possible. In this case do we still talk about a reliable hypothesis? This opens us to ponder whether CPH is purely biological or there are other social construct factors at play that help some L2 adult learners to attain nativelikness despite the high unlikelihood of its occurrence.","PeriodicalId":29908,"journal":{"name":"International Research in Early Childhood Education","volume":"43 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2019-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82638540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigated teacher hiring processes to determine the extent to which principals use research-based practices that are most likely to identify high-quality teachers. This study also sought information about the type of personnel selection training principals receive and confidence of the principal in their ability to hire high-quality teachers. Data were gathered using a survey e-mailed to principals in ten states in the southern and western regions of the United States. Analysis indicated that principals favor traditional interviews as the primary teacher selection instrument and are unlikely to utilize predictive screening tools or research-based structured interviews. In most cases, principals do not make final hiring decisions based on measurable data or research-based qualities known to be predictive of high teacher performance. Most principals reported minimal teacher selection training through one-time workshops and graduate courses and yet possess a high degree of confidence in their skill to hire the best teachers.","PeriodicalId":29908,"journal":{"name":"International Research in Early Childhood Education","volume":"210 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2019-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72991503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although, the tremendous efforts that have been exerted in order not to break the flow of EFL learners’ verbal communication, EFL teachers are forced to do it i.e. necessity of immediate correction of some errors. This study is to examine whether immediate correction of mispronounced key utterances of interlocutors could enhance a classroom discussion. Analysis of collected data revealed that Group1’s participants who dealt with the conversation in which its interlocutors were immediately corrected in their mispronouncing key utterances significantly outperformed Group2’s participants who dealt with the conversation in which its interlocutors were corrected with some delayed i.e. after finishing their speech. Hence, immediate correction of mispronounced key utterances positively enhances classroom discussion more than delayed correction.","PeriodicalId":29908,"journal":{"name":"International Research in Early Childhood Education","volume":"49 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2019-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90819436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Descriptive survey design was used. The study population included 20 principals, 184 teachers, 776 parents and 776 students. The respondents who were sampled through purposive, incidental and random sampling method included principals, parents, teachers’ and form four students. The study shows there was a significant relationship between Provision of Infrastructural Facilities and students’ performance (R = .594; p < .001). The results of the regression indicated that parents’ participation in provision of Infrastructural Facilities explained 35.2% of the variance in students’ performance (R2 =.352, F (1, 239) = 130.105, p < .001). It was found that parents’ participation in provision of Infrastructural Facilities significantly predicted performance of MFIs (B = .376; p < .001). By replacing the significant coefficients into the equation connecting parents’ participation in provision of Infrastructural Facilities with students’ performance, the equation becomes Y=24,768+ 0.376X2 +:έ. Library, toilets and laboratory in day secondary schools were found to be inadequate hence affecting their performance. The study recommends that parents should be involved in infrastructure development secondary schools as this could influence academic achievement.","PeriodicalId":29908,"journal":{"name":"International Research in Early Childhood Education","volume":"23 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2019-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78135609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper investigated the reasons why students engage in examination malpractice during examinations at the University for Development Studies (UDS). The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design for this research and targeted undergraduate students of the Tamale Campus of the UDS. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 278 out of a total student population of 6,729 for the study. They responded mainly to questionnaire and a few open ended questions to provide the needed data for analysis. The findings suggest that (i) smuggling of prepared notes on pieces of papers (foreign material) into the examination hall, (ii) writing of examination answers on palms, thighs and other body parts, and (iii) communication by seeking for answers from colleagues are the three topmost forms/methods students engage to cheat during examinations. The desire to obtain good grades just as the more intelligent students pushes some students to cheat during examinations. The introduction of scanners and e-search software, the spacing of sitting arrangements, installation of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in large examination halls may help curb cheating.","PeriodicalId":29908,"journal":{"name":"International Research in Early Childhood Education","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2019-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88850605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ghana, like many multilingual African countries, has not been spared this serious challenge of language choice. In fact, it has become a worrying issue of concern to many Ghanaians who have an interest in education. This paper provides snapshots of varied opinions on selecting a language as a medium of instruction in Ghanaian classrooms. It discusses the existing debates on the use of English language as a medium of instruction and also asserts the writer’s stance on the subject. Finally, the paper concludes by advocating the support for Ghanaian languages as a medium of instruction across the curriculum at the lower primary level.","PeriodicalId":29908,"journal":{"name":"International Research in Early Childhood Education","volume":"60 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84879232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
