We consider a single base station scenario equipped with a cylindrical array and a circular array (which can be seen as a single ring cylindrical array), isotropic and directive antenna elements are taken into account and we evaluate the trade-off between antennas per ring and number of rings with fixed number of total antennas. Users are modeled as a spatial Binomial point process in a hexagonal cell. As beamforming techniques, Conventional and Capon algorithms have been considered. As main KPI to evaluate system performance, we consider average achievable per-user rate with different system configurations, such as network loading. The key result of the trade-off investigation is that, when the radius of the cell is much larger than the height of the base station, the best performance occurs when the cylindrical array degenerates in a circular array both when users lay at ground level and with random heights.","PeriodicalId":298927,"journal":{"name":"2019 22nd International Symposium on Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications (WPMC)","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124654886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The D2D communications are allowed as an overlay to the CRAN as well as in the unlicensed industrial, scientific and medical radio (ISM) band. A link distance based scheme is proposed and closed-form approximations are derived for the link distance thresholds to select the operating band of the D2D users. Furthermore, analytical expressions are derived to calculate the minimum required transmit power to achieve a guaranteed level of quality of service in each operating band. The results demonstrate that the proposed scheme achieves nearly 50% power saving compared to a monolithic (purely overlay or purely ISM band) D2D network.","PeriodicalId":298927,"journal":{"name":"2019 22nd International Symposium on Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications (WPMC)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121812751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two kinds of existing approaches, i.e., propagation model based approach and sensor monitoring based approach, are suffering from either inaccurate spectrum availability or high deployment cost. To solve these problems, crowdsourced REM is proposed which recruits users to fulfill the sensing tasks. In this work, we propose a novel crowdsourced REM method which exploits machine learning techniques to choose crowdsourced data for radio field intensity interpolation. One of practical ways to realize Massive MIMO in high frequency bands is hybrid beamforming (BF) that combines analog BF with digital precoding. In multi-user Massive MIMO system employing hybrid BF, user selection is an important function because its performance is highly affected by inter-user interference. However, the computational complexity of the user selection in multi-user Massive MIMO is high because a size of MIMO channel matrix is also large. Furthermore, satisfying user fairness by proportional fairness (PF) criteria leads to further increase of the complexity because re-calculation of precoding and postcoding matrices is required for each combination of selected users. To realize user-fair and lowcomplexity user selection algorithm for high SHF wideband multiuser Massive MIMO employing hybrid BF, this paper proposes a two-step user selection algorithm which is a combination of PF based user selection and chordal distance user selection. Results of computer simulations show that the proposed two-step user selection algorithm can achieve higher system performance than the conventional user selection algorithms do with higher user fairness and lower computational complexity.","PeriodicalId":298927,"journal":{"name":"2019 22nd International Symposium on Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications (WPMC)","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129505358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among all the LPWA technologies, LoRa is popular and important with low power consumption, long life-time, robustness to noise, and low deployment cost. For LoRa system, adopting multi-gateway structure can obtain diversity of gateway selection and hence improve performance. In this study, we investigate the characteristics of multigateway LoRa system and propose a novel method to dynamically select serving gateway and allocate spreading factor (SF) considering packet error rate (PER) for each end device. The proposed method reduces packet collision rate by balancing the on-air time of each SF and adjusts the SF allocation for each end device by its previous accumulated PER. From the simulation results, the proposed method can obtain about 35$Psi_{0}$ and 29$Psi_{0}$ improvement in bit error rate (BER) and PER, respectively, which validates the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":298927,"journal":{"name":"2019 22nd International Symposium on Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications (WPMC)","volume":"350 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132834354","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The combination of large macro-cells with small cells, generating a heterogeneous network, provides increased bit rates per unit area. This paper explores fundamental aspects of the mapping between the average Signal to Interference plus Noise Ratio (SINR) and the supported throughput in a context of 5G NR Small Cell Heterogeneous Networks operating at 2.6 GHz, 3.5 GHz and 5.62 GHz, through an implicit formulation approach that considers the mapping between threshold values for the SINR and Modulation Coding Schemes to obtain values for the PHY throughput. The technical specifications given by Release 15 of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project for 5G NR are followed, while considering a bandwidth of 100 MHz and Sub Carrier Spacing (SCS) of 60 kHz. By analysing the results one concludes that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the average SINR and the supported throughput, with an enhanced behaviour for cell radii longer than the ratio between the breakpoint distance and the co-channel reuse factor.","PeriodicalId":298927,"journal":{"name":"2019 22nd International Symposium on Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications (WPMC)","volume":"87 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127995448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
