Less than a decade to the deadline for the realization of this laudable situation of “no poverty’ among the people in across the globe, the economic situation in Nigeria is such that more and more people are becoming poorer having weaker purchasing powers to cope with ever increasing inflation rates. Youth unemployment keeps increasing. The paper identifies the gap between the educational content to which most of the Nigerian youths are exposed and the required skills in the markets and industries; thereby resulting in unemployment and underemployment. Technical and Vocational Education with entrepreneurship training has been examined and presented as a more reliable educational model that better prepare youths for fulfilled employment and wealth creation. The paper suggests the roles of different stakeholders in ensuring poverty reduction.","PeriodicalId":298722,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Training and Development Studies","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126668089","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A sample of 400 students from a population of 5233 was used for the study. Taro Yamen’s formula and simple random sampling were used to compose the sample. Three research questions were answered while three corresponding null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Two instruments titled Anti-social Behaviour Scale (ABS) and Social Media questionnaire (SMQ) were used for data collection. The instruments were validated by experts in Measurement and Evaluation. The reliability of the instruments was estimated using Cronbach alpha reliability method of internal consistency. Data were analyzed using multiple regression, analysis of variance (ANOVA), simple regression and t-test associated with regression. Findings revealed among others that social media usage (Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram independently accounts for 63.5% variation in tendency to cultism activities among secondary school students of Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, Southern Nigeria. It was also revealed that social media usage (Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram) accounts for 44.65% variation in tendency towards bullying among these students. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that students should be taught on how to make more constructive and fruitful use of their phones. The implication of the results was highlighted in line with the findings. The study successfully contributed to knowledge as it has established empirically that students can learn the acts of cultism from their use of social media.","PeriodicalId":298722,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Training and Development Studies","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130470721","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a single video camera to improvise a video technology based microteaching laboratory, the study analysed the impact of video feedback on trainee teachers self confidence, quality of voice level in delivery of instruction, overall improvement of teaching skills and the inherent challenges. The study revealed that the improvised single camera model of microteaching is less technology intensive, cost effective, and a result oriented model of microteaching programme. With the challenge of high waiting time resulting from the use of one camera and the need for alternative source of electricity supply, it is recommended that the model be applied in the teacher education institutions with proper planning.","PeriodicalId":298722,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Training and Development Studies","volume":"2 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122718189","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effort is to address and successfully support the specific needs and opportunities of the communities and their inhabitants. As a result, any nation that has weak or undeveloped rural communities finds it extremely difficult to reach the height of its developmental strides. In the same manner, the role of education in modern times cannot be quickly exhausted in a hurry for its contributions to the development of individuals and its impact on rural community development. As a result, this paper attempts to identify and conceptualize the following terms - “Community”, “Education”, “Development”, “Community development”, “formal education”, “Informal education”, “Non-formal education”, “Adult education”, and “Rural area”. It also attempts to understand the functions of a community, and how individuals in a rural community could contribute meaningfully to the development of their rural communities. Also discussed the purpose or the importance of community development in Nigeria. The paper further examined the purpose/benefits of adult education in community development, and the challenges or obstacles hindering the effective implementation of rural community development initiatives. However, the authors finally made suggestions for combating the effective implementation of rural community development programmes and projects in Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":298722,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Training and Development Studies","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128354932","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study explored the effectiveness of selected Postharvest Training Information (PhTI) on Improved Maize Crib’s (IMC) utilization by maize farmers in Southwest Nigeria. A total of 141 respondents were selected using cluster sampling technique. Data were collected with 135 questionnaires (96% response rate) and was analyzed using descriptive statistics, Likert-type scales and Chi-square. The results of the study revealed that farmers (39.2%) received PhTI on maize protectants regularly, whereas application of the protectants was received occasional by 39% of sampled farmers. Results further showed that respondents utilized IMC to a great extent and strongly agreed that maize crib allows airflow for adequate drying (𝑥̅ = 4.83). Also, they (68.1%) strongly agreed that maize stores longer in crib when protectant is applied (𝑥̅ = 4.68). Respondents agreed that pests have limited access to stored maize (𝑥̅ = 4.17) and are able to store excess production and sell during lean season (𝑥̅ = 4.04) using IMC. Chi-square analysis of association between selected PhTI and utilization of IMC revealed a positive and statistically significant relationship (𝜒2=18.797-56.186, *p˂0.005; *p˂0.001) between all the variables. The results reported that PhTI disseminated to maize farmers was significant, positive and very effective which could aid adequate utilization of IMC. The study recommends a policy framework that could sustain the collaboration of state ADPs (extension agents) and NSPRI in postharvest training information delivery and monitoring.","PeriodicalId":298722,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Training and Development Studies","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133455687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
