In this system, data is encoded into images and displayed on the flashing transmitter's screen. The receiver captures the flashing images from the transmitter and performs a frame subtraction to detect the transmitted data. A Canny edge detector is then applied and the corners of the transmitter are located before performing a perspective transformation. The system is implemented on Android platform and a range of experiments are carried out to evaluate the effect of several parameters on the detection such as the brightness of flashing screen and its rise time. We demonstrate a link with a possible 100 kbps data transmission capability.","PeriodicalId":298711,"journal":{"name":"2016 10th International Symposium on Communication Systems, Networks and Digital Signal Processing (CSNDSP)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131299659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system employs large array of optical fibres (up to 256 fibres) that are either embedded in, or bonded to the surface of the structural element or elements under test. A structural damage (cracks or complete failure) results in breaking of one or several optical fibres and sharp decrease in their optical transmission. The fibres are interrogated using a matrix-type optical fibre circuit with 16 optical transmitters and 16 optical receivers that operate in the TDM mode. This type of system can be used for monitoring of large arrays of other intensity-type optical sensors.","PeriodicalId":298711,"journal":{"name":"2016 10th International Symposium on Communication Systems, Networks and Digital Signal Processing (CSNDSP)","volume":"216 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133823328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose a novel cooperation scheme where the users jointly communicate symbols from an augmented constellation where each one of these symbols comprises two uncoded symbols each belonging to one of the users. We propose the structure of this 4-ary augmented constellation in the case where the users are initially employing binary Pulse Position Modulation (PPM). A performance analysis is then conducted over gamma-gamma channels reflecting the capability of the proposed scheme in doubling the diversity order for all levels of background radiation.","PeriodicalId":298711,"journal":{"name":"2016 10th International Symposium on Communication Systems, Networks and Digital Signal Processing (CSNDSP)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114955981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thoracic ECG (tECG) signal represents maternal ECG (mECG). Abdominal ECG (aECG) signal is a mixture of mECG, fECG and additive noises (e.g. power line interference, motion artifact, ambient noise...). While additive noises can be easily eliminated by ordinary linear filters, relationship between tECG and maternal component of aECG is fully nonlinear. ANFIS is able to handle this nonlinear relationship. Quality of mECG suppression by ANFIS is affected by changing ANFIS parameters, namely number of membership functions (mf), type of mf and number of epochs. The influence of each ANFIS parameter on suppression result is described in the paper. Results of fECG filtering are assessed by signal to noise ratio (SNR) and root mean square error (RMSE). Experimental results indicate that ANFIS have the potential to improve the diagnostic and monitoring quality of fECG signals while preserving their clinically important features.","PeriodicalId":298711,"journal":{"name":"2016 10th International Symposium on Communication Systems, Networks and Digital Signal Processing (CSNDSP)","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122014998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we exploit the intrinsic content-awareness ICN features to design a novel multi-source routing mechanism. It involves a new network entity, the ICN mediator, responsible for locating and delivering the requested information objects that are chunked and stored at different locations. Our approach imposes very limited signalling overhead, especially for large chunk sizes (MBytes). Simulations show significant latency reduction compared to traditional routing approaches.","PeriodicalId":298711,"journal":{"name":"2016 10th International Symposium on Communication Systems, Networks and Digital Signal Processing (CSNDSP)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124962722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The work details a newly proposed system structure with a soft decoder and investigates the behavior of such system under different channel conditions and different values of compression factors (i.e. spectral efficiencies). Performance is a very crucial issue, improving reliability and efficiency in communications. Security is also critically important. Laboratory performance measurements are presented for Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 a WEP point-to-multipoint links. Our study contributes to performance evaluation of this technology under WEP encryption, using available equipments (HP V-M200 access points and Linksys WPC600N adapters). The paper gives new results from TCP, UDP and FTP experiments in terms of TCP throughput, jitter, percentage of datagram loss and the FTP transfer rate for OSI layers 4 and 7, which are compared with the data from WEP point-to-point, Open point-to-multipoint links and WPA. The first two can be compensated simply by using aperture averaging, whereas the later, which is of high importance in high data rates free space optics communications, is much more complex. This paper gives a review of principal analytical methods used to simulate and characterize the optical beam propagation through the turbulence channel focussing on phase front distortion. The paper presents simple models suitable for computer simulations of beam wandering and scintillation. This is followed by more complex theoretical approaches in analysing the turbulence induced phase front distortion and the calculation of the mutual coherence function of partially coherent beams propagating through an inhomogeneous medium. The theoretical analysis of beam coherence and phase front distortion due to turbulence represents the first step for elaboration of the mitigation methods.","PeriodicalId":298711,"journal":{"name":"2016 10th International Symposium on Communication Systems, Networks and Digital Signal Processing (CSNDSP)","volume":"189 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114184578","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Compared to other studied patterns, the average power received was increased from 1.62 dBm to 3.17 dBm, simulations using MATLAB show the improvement in the power received distribution within the room. The maximum bit error rate (BER) at a data rate of 30 Mb/s was also reduced from 3.26 × 10-25 to 1.59 × 10-25.
