It describes the implementation of efficient Data Link Layer (DLL) and Forward Error Correction (FEC) modules in a Xilinx FPGA. The proposed DLL aims at furnishing the adequate means to fragment and route both high data-rate (HDR) and moderate data-rate (MDR) service requests while maintaining a continuous transmission flow. The FEC modules aims at providing sufficient error correction capabilities with reasonable computation overheads. The analytical method described in the paper can be used to determine the point-to-point blocking probability in switching networks with multicast connections. In this method, each traffic source can generate calls of different service classes. The proposed calculation method is approximate, therefore the results of calculations are compared with the results of simulation experiments. To achieve a practical communication range, frequency modulation technique has been utilized to modulate the voice signal which is eventually transmitted using visible light. Blue and green light emitting diodes have been chosen to design a full duplex system for simultaneous communication. Due to their orthogonality property, WH codes are most welcome for parameter estimation and synchronization in a multibeam scenario. In the current paper, these codes are investigated with respect to symbol timing recovery. For this purpose, we focus on a low-complex estimator by using a data-aided approach without any knowledge about carrier frequency/phase, which makes the method perfectly suited for initial acquisition. It is verified that the algorithm is unbiased and that the jitter performance is close to the Cramer-Rao lower bound. Employing this theoretical figure to select the WH words of interest, we are able to circumvent cumbersome and lengthy simulation runs. It is based on the Modified Montecarlo Algorithm but allows not only processing composed signals as used in VLC transmission with white or RGB LED emitters, but also modeling reflections where wavelength components of the incoming signals are modified, as could be the case of phosphor materials or wavelength-dependent reflecting surfaces. It also allows modeling not only lambertian reflections but also non-lambertian, quasi-specular surface, as could be plastic or metallic furniture. The objective is to decrease the system configuration requirements in terms of antenna numbers at the relay station and user nodes. Specifically, the scheme splits the user nodes into multiple groups and spreads the transmissions over a larger number of time slots (TSs) compared with the original MIMO Y channel scheme. While the latter scheme uses only one medium access control (MAC) and one broadcast (BC) phase, the proposed time scheduling arranges bi-directional data exchanges using specialized precoding in two or more MAC and BC phases between smaller number of users. As a result, the required numbers of antennas at the relay and the user nodes are decreased at the expense of reduced effective throughput. The power lines however can significantly attenuate communication signals operating in high frequency band. For this reason, multi-hop PLC systems become desirable. In this paper, we investigates the effect of multi-hop relaying on the power line channel transfer function. Measured results are compared with results obtained from sumulations in Matlab. Results show that the presence of relays between a transmitting and a receiving PLC nodes can intensify the attenuation and frequency selectivity. However, this is only possible with significantly large code lengths which may not be applicable for many systems. In this paper, we focus on short length polar codes and present a method which can enhance the performance of the successive cancellation decoder. For the purpose of analysis, we discuss the SC code tree and show how the proposed method can improve the performance by increasing the computational nodes in the code tree.
