This paper presents a basic architecture and its functional components for remote control of robotic systems. A variety of control modes for existing robotic systems were surveyed and the Internet transmission latency was discussed. An illustrative application was used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed architecture and the control scheme. Experimental results clearly indicate that the proposed behavior control mode is superior to direct control mode in terms of efficiency, operating environment, complex task handling, and control capability.","PeriodicalId":298625,"journal":{"name":"ISIE'2000. The fuzzy controller takes care of the nonlinear operating conditions of the converter. Hence an 8097 microcontroller based fuzzy PI controller is designed and implemented for a power converter-fed DC motor. In this paper, the authors present a modelling procedure, based on the Monte Carlo method, for simulating the performances of a power electronics equipped system as a function of the reliability of its components. The core of the simulation is a representation of the system behaviour, in the presence of failures, in the state-space where transitions are driven by the events generated by the Monte Carlo reliability model of the basic elements. For these reasons they are of great importance on all industrial areas and this importance increases permanently. But there are several problems, hardly taken into consideration at the time of their first installations. One must know that under pulse operation, additional voltage stress is given, if the frequency inverter and the motor are connected with a cable of a length of a few meters and more. This stress can lead to partial discharges within the motor winding and so to premature failures. Therefore, it is important either to avoid this discharge or to employ insulation materials resistant to such discharges. In this paper, the authors elucidate some connections concerning the coming into being and avoiding of partial discharges and how they can damage the winding. The preferred system in this article is a laboratory prototype that emulates industrial processes that involve continuous material transfer, (just as in rolling mills, paper mills and wire manufacturing plants) whose linear model has several differences with the actual behavior of the system, due to nonlinear characteristics. For this reason it is not enough to use conventional techniques, and therefore a Takagi-Sugeno-type fuzzy control is implemented with rules which are optimized by a genetic algorithm. A fuzzy control acts on the inverter devices duty cycles ensuring an optimum current tracking. A new controller design procedure has been adopted: with a mathematical analysis a rough outline of the fuzzy rules has been possible, then they have been modified during the simulation campaign to compensate the neglected phenomena. Moreover a compensating factor has been introduced to include the mains voltage effect on the current control. In short the analysis developed and the consequent control includes all the phenomena using no knowledge of load, coupling filter or grid parameters thanks to fuzzy logic computing. Particularly an 800 kVA drive comprising 22 adjustable speed drives (ASD) was considered. Under the proposed modulation scheme PWM-VSR operate with a sampling frequency of 1.2 kHz and a switching frequency of 850 Hz. Consequently reducing commutation losses by 85% compared to a multi-motor drive employing synchronized SVM. This is achieved while keeping the drive's input current THD beneath 5%. Further, the use of staggered sampling SVM in the AFE converters helped in reducing by 84% their input filters' size. All these features were accomplished by gathering AFE converters into six groups of staggered sampling, thus inducing harmonic current cancellation between them. Moreover, SVM in the AFE converters was complemented with a nonlinear control scheme, which provided them with a linearized and decoupled d-q axes dynamics. A reactive power control loop in this scheme enabled the multi-motor drive to operate as a VAr compensator. A compensating capacity of 250 kVAr was attained with the drive under study. Simulation results obtained under different operating conditions showed the feasibility of the proposed modulation scheme for multi-motor AC drive AFE converters.","PeriodicalId":298625,"journal":{"name":"ISIE'2000. As a first approach, the design was tentatively conceived with eight stimulating channels because it could be possible to provide additional channels. On the other hand, a prospective technique for patient rehabilitation was also studied in order to test as well as to prove the efficiency and the versatility of the conceived stimulator. This under-the skin micro-stimulator is dedicated to operate with any DSP- driven cochlear-prosthesis systems for executing numerical data with great flexibility. The major parts in this electronic circuit were designed around a logical processing unit for commanding the stimulation stage. It includes a transmission bus, which could differentiate the two main stages: the decoding stage and the stimulation stage. When receiving transmitted data from the external processing part, the logic unit decodes information for commanding the eight stimulation channels. Channels work independently and were merely formed by CMOS-current sources delivering positive and negative stimuli. After processing sounds, appropriate numerical data would be transmitted from the external sound analyser to the internal micro-stimulator through an inductive link (radio-frequency communication link), using an amplitude-modulated carrier. Transmitted data specifies stimulation current level to generate at each specified channel as well as stimulation rhythm. The external processing permits sound energy extraction through different calculation methods. For rehabilitation, a visual aided-tool illustrated on computer screen was designed to identify extracted energies, and hence to control clinically stimulating-pulse levels. With this dedicated process, clinicians could set up therapeutic experiments during rehabilitation, adjust correctly the device operation-parameters and assess electrical charges (current-pulse level) injected in cochlea's biological tissue.","PeriodicalId":298625,"journal":{"name":"ISIE'2000. The new solution is employed in the direct power control (DPC) of three-phase PWM rectifiers. Theoretical principles, steady-state operation and dynamic performance of the DPC with VF-based power estimation are presented and compared with the conventional voltage-based estimation. Both power estimators are investigated under purely sinusoidal as well as unbalanced and distorted line voltages. Computer simulations and laboratory experiments have shown that the new method offers significant advantages.
