Container architecture is defined as the type of architecture that is characterised by the usage of steel containers as a structural elements and architectural envelope that can be presented as a part of architecture or a function that an activity can happen in it. Due to the specific dimensions that the container has, architects tend to use it to obtain modularity in their projects and the modular design strategies refer to using the containers as a standard unit to carry out the process, these containers are not only considered as a modular unit in design basis, but it is also used because of its structural strength, cheap cost, fast construction, its variety to change the function inside and its durability. Unfortunately, people are not aware of the importance of this type of material that can be used to obtain sustainability and reduce pollution and recycle the materials. Therefore, this paper aims to explore the container architecture by identifying different ways of creating architecture spaces that hosts different functions and activities not only in micro view but also in macro which means in large scale. In order to achieve the mentioned aim, the paper will start by presenting a literature review based on desk research, highlighting the previous reading about solving the problem. As a conclusion, it is important to have a clear detail about the potentials of containers and their different usage in life.","PeriodicalId":29839,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Architecture and Planning -King Saud University","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83712224","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The power of Cantilevers with its different designs is spreading throughout the world via various perspectives since it increases the ability of design creativity and gives proper solutions. However, from that point forward, a research gap that has been found missing relating the structural challenges and how it affects the design and the decisions taken by the clients/ owners paying budgets on such type of structural additions that may not achieve the 100% building safety. Lack of knowing the proper building technologies may lead to reduce limits of innovation, that resulted in building repetitive traditional prototype without remarkable decisions. This paper therefore aims to detect the new building technologies that enable architects to design a cantilever in their projects, helping the design and the load carrying problems and highlight the exceptional designs that challenges the attractive force and establish a flying structure. In order to achieve the mentioned aim, the paper will start presenting a literature review based on a desk research theories and methods of construction were used to clearly explains our topic “the power of cantilevers in contemporary arch.” Supported with diverse analysis of Frank Lloyd Wright, Zaha Hadid, and Knight Architects.","PeriodicalId":29839,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Architecture and Planning -King Saud University","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79818406","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The conjecture has arisen as to how architecture could be entirely influenced. This field is involved in finding solutions to reduce the spread of this pandemic which became a new issue. Unfortunately, due to the shortage of the movable and flexible circulation elements, the considerations and architectural preventive measures taken were affected during the planning of the post-pandemic built-environment. This paper, therefore, aims to propose a checklist of new design considerations for the circulation elements in the public buildings and the outdoor spaces. These considerations are hypothesised to reduce the possibilities of virus infection. COVID-19, thus providing necessary safety measures from virus attacks, enhancing the defence mechanism of our physical environment. Based on the desk research, this paper will highlight the previous readings. After that, the paper analyses Porto restaurant by MASS group design and Rising Together: The Black Experience with Police in America exhibition as case studies, to recognize their architectural approach concerning the flexibility and circulation, in response to the widespread of the pandemic, and how these strategies became important guidelines to be considered. In conclusion, various considerations in design are conducted in order to achieve the main aim mentioned previously involving health criteria.","PeriodicalId":29839,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Architecture and Planning -King Saud University","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84814670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Azhari","doi":"10.54729/gwrn2026","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.54729/gwrn2026","url":null,"abstract":"Phobia in its broadest sense is an irrational fear or feeling, created in a person toward an object or a certain situation that might happen around him or in his imagination and it can be related to natural elements such as animals, insects, oceans, fire and heights. Furthermore, it can be related to build environment and manmade spaces or more simply, to architecture. Unfortunately, architects shifted from the standardisation and regularity to creating innovative and irregular spaces that are reflected by the exterior and interior design of the building without having any concern of the negative consequences such as phobias and anxiety disorder among people. Therefore, this paper aims to detect the contemporary design elements and representations that generated types of phobias to the users of projects. To achieve the main aim, this paper will begin by literature review, based on desk research, defining the meaning of phobia, recognising its types and reasons. Then, the paper will highlight the historical background of phobia in architecture, browsing previous readings about the phobia in the contemporary architecture. After that, the research will analyse three case studies that are Roland Messner Museum in South Tyrol of Italy, The Musée des Confluences in Lyon, Lou Ruvo Centre for Brain Health in Las Vegas. Through the analysis, the research will detect the elements and representations that generated different types of phobias, it can be recognised if the spaces of these three projects targeted to generate phobia on purpose or it was a spontaneous feeling by some users. Another finding can be figured out, a judgment of criticism can determine if these designs were successful through using these thrilling elements or not. In conclusion, a set of contemporary design elements that stimulate phobia for users is defined.","PeriodicalId":29839,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Architecture and Planning -King Saud University","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81739101","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
