The word “yoga” has come to describe a method of discipline: to join the body to the mind and together join to the self or to union between the individual self and the spiritual self. Yoga is considered as an acceptable method for improving and maintaining physical and mental health. A growing body of evidence supports the belief that yoga benefits physical, mental and emotional health. Over the last 10 years, a growing number of research studies shows that the practice of yoga can improve strength and flexibility and cures various types of diseases like hypertension, diabetes mellitus, depression, etc. Yoga is a comprehensive system that uses physical postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), meditation (dhyana), concentration (dharana) and reflective practices.","PeriodicalId":298121,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pharmacognosy & Chinese Medicine","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116719350","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On contrary, liquid emulsion exhibit lack of physicochemical stability and compliance issues. To overcome these problems, dry emulsion formulation recommended. Dry emulsions are formulated by spray drying, evaporation and rotary evaporation. The aim of the present investigation is to improve the dissolution and oral bioavailability of poorly water soluble drug Olmesartan medoxomil by preparing dry emulsion. Olmesartan medoxomil is poorly soluble drug used for treatment of high blood pressure, showing absorption window at stomach and upper part of small intestine. Dry emulsion was ready by victimisation purgative during which drug is very soluble, using poloxamer188 as water soluble carrier and aerosil 200 as an adsorbent. The preferred oils were castor oil, olive oil, soybean oil and isopropyl myristate and polymers were PEG400, Eudragit EPO and Poloxamer 188. Dry emulsion was prepared by spray drying. Dry emulsion was evaluated for drug content, percentage moisture content, aqueous solubility, dissolution study and in-vivo bioavailability study. In vitro drug release of dry emulsion was studied by using USP type II paddle dissolution apparatus. The solubility of the drug was increased with surfactant and polymer at 1:1 ratio. Probable mechanisms of improved solubility were characterized by particle size determination, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Powder X-ray Diffractometry (PXRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). This study revealed that solid dry emulsion technique could prove promising for improvement of solubility, dissolution rate and oral bioavailability of Olmesartan medoxomil.","PeriodicalId":298121,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pharmacognosy & Chinese Medicine","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125752896","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The rhizome of this plant is also referred to as the “root” and is the most useful part of the plant for culinary and medicinal purposes. The most active component of turmeric is curcumin, which makes up 2 to 5% of the spice. The characteristic yellow color of turmeric is due to the curcuminoids. Curcumin is an orange–yellow crystalline powder practically insoluble in water. Turmeric is used as a dietary spice, coloring agent in foods and textiles, and a treatment for a wide variety of ailments. It is widely used in traditional Indian medicine to cure biliary disorders, anorexia, cough, diabetic wounds, hepatic disorders, rheumatism, and sinusitis. Turmeric paste in slaked lime is a popular home remedy for the treatment of inflammation and wounds. For centuries, curcumin has been consumed as a dietary spice at doses up to 100 mg/d. Extensive investigation over the last five decades has indicated that curcumin reduces blood cholesterol, prevents LDL oxidation, inhibits platelet aggregation, suppresses thrombosis and myocardial infarction (MI), suppresses symptoms associated with type II diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis (MS), and Alzheimer’s disease, inhibits human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) replication, enhances wound healing, protects from liver injury, increases bile secretion, protects from cataract formation, and protects from pulmonary toxicity and fibrosis, is an anti-leishmaniasis and an antiatherosclerotic. Additionally, there is extensive literature that suggests that curcumin has potential in the prevention and treatment of a variety of other diseases.","PeriodicalId":298121,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pharmacognosy & Chinese Medicine","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121786001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study was designed to evaluate the acute and 28 days repeated oral toxicity study of Polyherbal formulation according to OECD guidelines. Materials and Methods: In acute oral toxicity study, Herbal mixture was administered at 2000mg/kg orally and animals were observed for toxic signs at 30 min, 1, 2 and 4 hrs and thereafter once a day for the next 14 days. In repeated dose-28-day oral toxicity study, the animals were divided into four groups of 6 animals each. Group-1 animals served as a control. Group II animals received low dose of herbal mixture 50 mg/kg, Group III animals received middle dose 100 mg/kg and Group IV animals received high dose of 200 mg/kg (orally) once daily for 28 days respectively. Results: The assessment study results showed that neither the acute toxicity study of herbal mixture at the dose level of 2000mg/kg nor the 28 days repeated oral toxicity study produced any toxic signs or mortality during study. In 28 days repeated oral toxicity study, no significant changes were observed in the haematological and biochemical parameters, relative organ weight, gross necropsy and histopathological examination with herbal mixture treatment. Conclusion: The results of the present study suggest that LD50 of newly developed Polyherbal formulation was >2000 mg /kg and the mixture is completely safe and non-toxic for therapy.","PeriodicalId":298121,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pharmacognosy & Chinese Medicine","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114716783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the established method, AME containing 95% w/w α-mangostin content was obtained with an extract yield of 0.46% w/w dry plant powder. In addition, investigation of its antibacterial activity against oral pathogenic bacteria, including Streptococcus mitis, S. mutans, S. pyogenes and Bacillus subtilis, compared with the standard marker, α-mangostin found that AME exhibited strong antibacterial activities, which were equivalent to those of α-mangostin (MICs and MBCs of 0.5-2 and 4-16 µg/mL, respectively). Moreover, AME exhibited equivalent antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes when compared to the pure α-mangostin (MIC and MBC of 2 and 8 µg/mL, respectively). A chemical stability evaluation found that AME was stable through a period of 16 weeks, when kept in a well-closed container protected from light and stored either at 4 ± 2 or 30 ± 2°C. On the other hand, AME was instable when exposed to light after 3 weeks of storage. The stability evaluation under accelerated conditions (75% relative humidity, at 45°C) implied that AME has a shelf-life of at least two years.","PeriodicalId":298121,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Pharmacognosy & Chinese Medicine","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115616942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
