A hierarchical architecture of energy management is proposed: a “Module level” controller performs a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm to achieve the optimal utilization of each PV module; a “Leg level” controller manages the power flow control within the modules of a single CHB phase leg, and a “System” level controller manages the active power flow between the three CHB phases and the reactive power generation towards the grid. The active power control is aimed at the compensation of the mismatches between the different PV-powered modules, which may come from partial shadowing phenomena. A power unbalance compensation between cascaded modules is implemented through the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) algorithm, while the unbalance compensation between the phases is implemented through the phase currents control. To compensate the active power unbalance due to PV module mismatches, the obtained effect is equivalent to the injection of a zero sequence current. A reactive power control has been implemented to perform a power factor (PF) correction, too. A set of numerical simulations validate the effectiveness of the algorithm, which can simultaneously achieve the desired active power generation from all the PV panels and the desired PF control towards the grid.","PeriodicalId":294628,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 6th International Forum on Research and Technology for Society and Industry (RTSI)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130941282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can not. In this paper, we present a project in which such a business bootstrapped expertise acquisition in the field of reconfigurable architectures. We, as academic researchers and technology experts, fostered the competence transfer towards the partner's research and development team. We achieved it by exploiting current state-of-the-art High-Level Synthesis tools and processes to carry out a design space exploration to successfully accelerate an algorithm, maintaining its structure unaltered, even if not designed with FPGA acceleration in mind. This effectively built a solid bridge between domain and technology experts to enhance the competence transfer process.","PeriodicalId":294628,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 6th International Forum on Research and Technology for Society and Industry (RTSI)","volume":"178 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116399003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Internet of Things (IoT) technologies help to implement effective and efficient diagnostic in different fields within the context of Industry 4.0. In this paper a low-cost diagnostic system for condition monitoring of industrial plant is presented. Different sensors technologies are proposed to monitor the health indicators of electric, electronic, mechanic, and hydraulic components. These sensors could be used to estimate the plant conditions and its remaining useful life through direct measurements or by means of indirect assessment, such as statistical tools or artificial intelligence. This paper presents a reliability and availability analysis of a Condition Monitoring system using Reliability Block Diagram and Monte Carlo Simulation. The performances of different architectures have been compared, emphasizing the improvements achieved using standby redundancies in terms of reliability and availability of the proposed diagnostic system.","PeriodicalId":294628,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 6th International Forum on Research and Technology for Society and Industry (RTSI)","volume":"217 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132448191","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This phenomenon consists in the the interruption of the flow in confined geometries due to the complete blockage of the channel cross-section. Since experiments can be expensive and difficult to implement, mathematical modelling has become more and more used. In this work, the numerical method called CFD-DEM (combining Computational Fluid Dynamics and Discrete Element Method) is employed to simulate clogging in a microchannel with sudden contraction, considering a suspension of triplet particles and constant pressure drop. The influence of particle volume fraction, cohesion energy density, and pressure drop on the flow rate is investigated. A study concerning the orientation of the triplets in the microchannel is also carried out.","PeriodicalId":294628,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 6th International Forum on Research and Technology for Society and Industry (RTSI)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114013128","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Soft manipulators and grippers are gaining in popularity due to being able to handle large payloads whilst being lightweight, highly compliant, low-cost, and compactible or collapsible. Yet soft robots cannot make use of traditional rigid sensors to measure their pose or interaction with the environment. Perception in soft robotics needs to embrace alternative methods: sensors made from soft materials that perform robustly under compression and bending conditions; i.e, stretchable soft sensors that rely on (their) material and electrical properties to output signal measurements. However, many such sensors come with inherent drawbacks, including material incompatibility, fabrication complexity, and hysteresis. In this paper, we report on the use of multiple staggered optical waveguide sensors embedded in silicone. These stretchable optical waveguide sensors coated with a thin layer of gold were fabricated and integrated with a fabric-based, inflatable robot finger. An experimental study was performed to evaluate the sensor's responsiveness. We find that multi-curvature pose estimation (from 0.05-0.135 m-1) (from fully deflated to maximum inflation) can be acquired after integration with the inflatable robot finger. The sensor proves capable of measuring force information by way of interaction with the environment at multiple points along the gripper.","PeriodicalId":294628,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 6th International Forum on Research and Technology for Society and Industry (RTSI)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130050394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Piezoelectric thin films are used both for sensing and actuating even if their high efficiency in actuation allowed to develop challenging solutions in the field of MEMS mirrors. MEMS mirrors market has grown very fast in last decades covering many applications such as pico-projectors and LiDAR. The increase of ST customers for this application has been translated into a large products portfolio for consumer's market. The requirement is the technology validation together with the device design. Therefore, the analysis of suitable reliability tests to ensure competitive performances for each product over stress and time is mandatory. In this manuscript we focus on a two-steps stress test developed by AMS R&D team. The aim is the analysis of the stress effects onto sol-gel PZT micro-mirrors to gain comprehension about the reliability of our products under practical usage.","PeriodicalId":294628,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 6th International Forum on Research and Technology for Society and Industry (RTSI)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131755506","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, representation learning on graphs has reached unprecedentedly effective graph mining. In particular, Knowledge Graph Embedding (KGE) methods have gained increasing attention due to their effectiveness in representing real-world structured information while preserving relevant properties. Current research mainly focuses on improving and comparing the effectiveness of new KGE models on different predictive tasks. However, the application of KGE techniques in the industrial scenario sets a series of requirements on the runtime performance of the employed models. For this reason, this work aims to enable an effortless characterization of the runtime performance of KGE methods in terms of memory footprint and execution time. To this extent, we propose KGE-Perf, a framework for evaluating available state-of-the-art implementations of KGE models against graphs with different properties, focusing on the efficacy of the adopted optimization strategies. Experimental evaluation of three representative KGE algorithms on open-access KGs shows that multi-threading on CPU is effective, but its benefits decrease as the number of threads grows. The usage of vectorized instruction shows encouraging results in speeding up the training of KGE models, but GPU proves, hands down, to be the best architecture for the given task. Moreover, experimental results show how the RAM usage strongly depends on the input KG, with only slight variations between different models or hardware configurations.","PeriodicalId":294628,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 6th International Forum on Research and Technology for Society and Industry (RTSI)","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124120910","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The low frequency oscillations have negative impacts on the calculation process of the effective distance impedance of the relay, and they distort the trajectory path of relay's effective impedance when it moves from the load location to the final fault location in a form of a spiraled way. The spiraling effect of the calculated effective impedance will cause the overreach tripping of ground or phase distance elements, where in this case the distance relay will respond for AC faults that are located outside of its protective zone. For avoiding the overreach of the protective zone1, it is required that the reach setting of that zone to be shorten. The simulated MathCAD software has been used to determine the required recommended settings of the relay's zone1, and depending on those simulation results it can be said that the series compensated transmission systems with high degree of compensation can be protected against the internal AC faults on the lines with limited degree of protection (about 60%) when the modified impedance (mho) distance relays are used. On the other hand, the recommended settings of the protective zone2 should not be reduced due to the effects of the low frequency oscillations.","PeriodicalId":294628,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 6th International Forum on Research and Technology for Society and Industry (RTSI)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122449666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
