From increasing energy crisis, the only solution is to turn towards renewable resources. The major components for a conventional hydroelectric plant are a reservoir, hydraulic turbines, and a powerhouse. Among a few pico-hydro choices, Whirlpool Hydropower Generator (WHG) is another expansion in the group of ultra-low head hydropower generation and is one of the emerging advancements that have exceptional consideration of academicians internationally. In WHG, an artificially framed vortex turns a co-axially turbine, combined with a generator thus producing electricity. This study is focused to design and manufacture a turbine to produce electricity from regular canal systems using basic concepts of whirlpools and vortex. It features a vertical axis cross-flow in the turbine and implementing it to harness hydro-power from canal systems. Using the gravitational factor to favor this design making a turbine, both cost-efficient with low installation cost and also environment- friendly, especially for marine life. It is a low-water head turbine with a submersible generator fitted inside it which will generate electricity via canal system. Our designed turbine with its robustness and flexibility having a standalone grid-connected system enables it to move 24/7. Removing the need for heavy constructed high-water level reservoirs for power generation, shifting conventional water flow axis to a natural vertical Whirlpool Flow (WF), while minimizing harm to marine life. Moreover, this prototype will utilize canal systems for effective power generation as it can be installed at small places like the irrigation systems.","PeriodicalId":293979,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 6th International Conference on Engineering Technologies and Applied Sciences (ICETAS)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126724112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, object detection using Mask Region-Based CNN and instance segmentation was applied to a pedestrian crosswalk. Training was done using Mask R-CNN for object detection with ResNet-101 backbone, with 0.001 learning rate and 2 images per GPU during 30 epochs of 100 batches. Based on the study, 500 pedestrian crosswalk images were gathered and selected for validation and training. 80% of the images are for the training set and for the validation set is 20%. Another 30 pedestrian crosswalk testing images were gathered for the model evaluation to verify the trained model stability and reliability. All 30 testing images had been detected and the accuracy of the detections is greater than 97%. If there is 2 or more pedestrian crosswalk in an image, it will make the color of MASK different to each detection. The summary test results verified that all gathered data was higher than 97% to be able to detect a pedestrian. With this, the proposed framework can detect pedestrian crosswalks using MASK Region-Based Convolutional Neural Network.","PeriodicalId":293979,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 6th International Conference on Engineering Technologies and Applied Sciences (ICETAS)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126777687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Typically, a HMT consists of one or more planetary gear-sets and a pair of hydraulic pump/motors, making it bulky and expensive. A novel structure of HMT named the Hondamatic only consisted a two-shafted piston pump and a variable displacement piston motor, making it very compact. The two-shafted piston pump plays the role of a planetary gear and the piston barrels of the pump and motor are dual-used for mechanical transmission. This paper analyzes the operating principle of the Hondamatic and its performance through detailed modeling. The model considering the kinematics, inertial and compressibility dynamics as well as the mechanical and volumetric losses. Modeling concepts for axial piston pump/motors are adapted to the Hondamatic to result in a dynamic model with tunable parameters to analyze the operation, dynamics and efficiency. The friction between the pistons and piston bores, the throttling loss of the distributor valves and the leakage from the piston bores are the main power losses in the Hondamatic. The overall efficiency of the Hondamatic is above 80% under most working condition according to the simulation results, which makes the Hondamatic high efficient and very compact meanwhile.","PeriodicalId":293979,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 6th International Conference on Engineering Technologies and Applied Sciences (ICETAS)","volume":"136 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115906928","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Developing a suitable temperature controller for an exothermic process is a challenging task because large amount of heat is released rapidly during the process. The exothermic behavior will further increase the reaction rate and cause more heat to be liberated. As the result, the improper temperature control might cause the reaction becomes unstable and consequently poses safety concern to the plant personnel and equipment. The conventional non-metaheuristic-based controller, such as fuzzy logic requires empirical data or knowledge about the total amount heat released while developing its fuzzy rules and membership functions for precision control. However, the detailed kinetic model of the heat released is unable to be obtained since there are several unobservable parameters during the process, such as the energy held in the reactor and jacket walls. Therefore, particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO) is proposed as the controller to maintain the reactor temperature at the desired trajectory by manipulating the inlet jacket fluid temperature and flow rate. The simulation results show the proposed PSO produces better performances in terms of minimizing fluctuation in control actions and overshooting as compared with the conventional fuzzy logic controller.","PeriodicalId":293979,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 6th International Conference on Engineering Technologies and Applied Sciences (ICETAS)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128401226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The integrity of our nation is shown by its precious history, culture and tradition. In last two decades, there has been a lot of work has been done and various projects working on it in developing countries like UK, USA, Australia etc. But there is very limited development has done in the Pakistan for cultural heritage mainly in Sindh region. This needs to be introduced/visualized to the world and to be preserved for coming generations. The large number of cultural heritage objects stored in museums has been destroyed due to less attention towards development, climate changes, unavailability of resources/techniques, limited funding and natural disasters. At present only few museums of Sindh are using the methods for preservation of these objects but that is only for physical protection. However, the preservation, presentation and archival of cultural heritage primarily depends on the standard preservation techniques, useful approaches for visualization and cost-effective methods of archiving. This research provides a framework to digitize these cultural heritage objects in such a way, that it can be saved from being stolen and our generations can learn about our culture and history from the past and get enthusiasm for future developments. In this regard, this research provides a framework which will digitize objects available in museums, apply 3D reconstruction techniques on it and archive for future use.","PeriodicalId":293979,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 6th International Conference on Engineering Technologies and Applied Sciences (ICETAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131036611","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Presently it is performed by software engineers with the help of tool support, for instance, Gerrit and termed as Modern Code Review (MCR). It is a lightweight way to deal with distinguishing abandons from source code. Software engineer's efficiency while performing MCR activities is exposed to varying people related situational factors that impact the software engineer's sustainability. The literature lacks the identification of people related situational factors in MCR. For successful MCR results, there is a need to distinguish people concerning situational factors to enhance the productivity and competence of software engineers for their sustainability. Therefore, this investigation intends to recognize situational variables influencing the ability and efficiency of software engineers. The systematic methodology utilized for this examination is Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The study results reported 52 situational factors. The situational factors are assembled into four fundamental classifications such as team, team interaction, reviewer response and knowledge sharing. The grounded theory approach has been applied to get final unique list of people related situational factors and sub factors. The investigation will be useful for expert performing examination seeing situational factors as well as the sustainability of software engineers engaged with MCR activities.","PeriodicalId":293979,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 6th International Conference on Engineering Technologies and Applied Sciences (ICETAS)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124268476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The patterns in human faces have been extracted using the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and the extracted eigenfaces, which are the eigenvectors of the covariance matrix, represent the extracted features. Euclidean distance based classifier has been utilized which compares the Euclidean distance between the test image and the face images in the training set to ascertain the class to which the test image should belong. Two varying datasets are used in this work with first containing selected facial images from that AT&T or the Olivetti Research Laboratory facial database while second set has been generated locally at DHA Suffa University, Karachi. Seventy percent of the images have been used for training while the remaining thirty percent images have been used for evaluating the classifier. The implemented algorithm is developed in MATLAB and ensures an overall efficiency of around ninety percent for slight variations in facial expressions and postures.","PeriodicalId":293979,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 6th International Conference on Engineering Technologies and Applied Sciences (ICETAS)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123043247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These robotic devices are meant to provide ease and comfort to the patient undergoing therapy, so controlling these robots effectively is very crucial. Widely used control algorithms for controlling these devices are linear controllers which are not much robust and efficient as compared to non-linear controllers. Since rehabilitation robots are highly nonlinear in nature, therefore nonlinear controllers are required that can perform well under uncertainties and resistant to parametric changes. One of the most extensively used non-linear control method is Sliding Mode Controller (SMC). SMC has proved its robustness in terms of trajectory tracking, stability and insensitiveness to disturbances and parametric uncertainties. One drawback of using classical SMC is chattering, which is high frequency oscillations. This paper presents sliding mode controller and its different types along with the method of chattering removal, for controlling rehabilitation robotic devices.","PeriodicalId":293979,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 6th International Conference on Engineering Technologies and Applied Sciences (ICETAS)","volume":"127 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134031349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
