It also contains many other interesting sub algebras, some of which could possibly serve as a basis of a useful fuzzy set theory. This paper is about such a sub algebra, one which generalizes the truth value algebra of interval-valued fuzzy sets. We investigate it as an algebra, and determine its automorphism group. In particular, we show that it is a characteristic subalgebra of the containing truth value algebra of fuzzy sets of type-2, and that its automorphisms are exactly those induced by automorphisms of that algebra.","PeriodicalId":292853,"journal":{"name":"NAFIPS 2007 - 2007 Annual Meeting of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122839188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

REXWERE employs a hybrid approach that combines fuzzy reasoning and neural learning within a working scheme made of several steps. Firstly, a fuzzy clustering process is applied to group similar user sessions into user profiles. Next, a neuro-fuzzy network is trained using information about user profiles in order to derive a set of recommendation fuzzy rules. Finally, a further learning step is performed to improve the accuracy of the derived recommendation model. Throughout the use of REXWERE, the user is guided by a wizard-based interface made of a sequence of panels. Each panel consists in a graphical window providing a basic function of the tool. An illustrative example is provided to show the use of REXWERE and to demonstrate its effectiveness in finding good recommendation rules.","PeriodicalId":292853,"journal":{"name":"NAFIPS 2007 - 2007 Annual Meeting of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115953089","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Application of fuzzy measures and fuzzy integrals is a significant development in this pursuit. Different decision models are used in building modern decision support systems that provide intelligent assistance to the decision maker. Most of the real-life decision problems involve interactive criteria. In these problems, unlike additive measures non-additive measures such as fuzzy measures are applied to determine the overall worth of an alternative due to their inherent ability to model the interaction between the criteria. However, determination of fuzzy measures in practical applications is problematic. This paper discusses this issue and proposes an approach to resolve the issue.","PeriodicalId":292853,"journal":{"name":"NAFIPS 2007 - 2007 Annual Meeting of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116368205","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, mapping low-level features to high-level image semantics is still an ongoing challenge for researchers. In this paper an integrated model of fuzzy centrality and intensity concepts, together with the concept hierarchy is proposed to efficiently retrieving images. The self-organization feature map is applied to construct a three-layer concept hierarchy for image archives. Thus, search for the image concepts can be effectively achieved by detecting the presences of the relevant bottom-level image primitive features. In other words, an image can be categorized into multiple semantics. Consequently, the retrieval accuracy can be improved by searching the multiple categories. The methodology of the proposed model will be illustrated in this paper and the experimental results will be presented to demonstrate the efficiency in retrieving images.","PeriodicalId":292853,"journal":{"name":"NAFIPS 2007 - 2007 Annual Meeting of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117105388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The capacity of an airport and the demand at a certain point in time are serious parameters that account for a big extent to aircraft delay and related variables. It has been proven that weather is another important impact in this regard. Although weather cannot be controlled, the knowledge of how weather affects the air traffic at an airport can be very helpful to optimize air traffic management. Data mining promises to gain that knowledge. Usually, the very first step in data mining is data visualization. In this paper we discuss two new visualization techniques that allow to visualize aviation data and weather data in order to contribute to the optimization process. These modern multi-dimensional scaling techniques provide mappings of high-dimensional data to low-dimensional feature spaces. We will show some results on a practical application of a major European airport.","PeriodicalId":292853,"journal":{"name":"NAFIPS 2007 - 2007 Annual Meeting of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116672328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A disease outbreak causes economic loss to the farmer, through the reduced weight gain of sick cattle and the spread of the infection to other cattle. Livestock disease management is a loss-reduction process, where sick cattle are quarantined and treated as early as possible. Disease detection today, however, still relies on behavioral observation and weekly checkups. There is an obvious opportunity for a real-time sensor platform, coupled with intelligent sensor fusion, to significantly improve on the current system. We report on preliminary experiments in developing just such a sensor-fusion system, focusing on a sensor to detect water intake. ROC analysis shows that this sensor does predict disease in cattle. However, a significant skewness in the observed data does degrade the classifier's performance, even when cost-sensitive classification is used.","PeriodicalId":292853,"journal":{"name":"NAFIPS 2007 - 2007 Annual Meeting of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123662914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The robot has the same non-holonomic kinematic constraint that has a car vehicle. This constraint makes the robot having its direction always tangent to the trajectory. Two sub-cases of parking problems are considered. These are forward and backward maneuvers, aiming to stabilize the robot at a pre-specified pose. The environment is assumed to be known, obstacle-free and a local map of the area is already done by prior processing the information obtained from ultrasonic sensors mounted on the robot. A linguistic fuzzy model to represent the robot and its environment is developed. From this model, the parking manoeuvres are carried out by mimicking a human car driver using a fuzzy control system. Upon simulation tests this approach has been proved efficient giving very encouraging results.","PeriodicalId":292853,"journal":{"name":"NAFIPS 2007 - 2007 Annual Meeting of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121819379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Coronal loops are immense arches of hot gas on the surface of the Sun, thought to be jets of hot plasma flowing along in the alleys between the strong coronal magnetic fields. We use various data mining techniques including combining crisp and fuzzy classifiers for automated detection of blocks extracted from EIT solar images. Our data mining and retrieval system helps provide relevant data to astrophysicists who need such data to study the solar corona, and whose work is traditionally hindered by the need to manually sift through thousands of images in order to locate the very few that are useful for further analysis. Our data-driven approach is distinct from related image processing based approaches that cannot scale to large image databases because they rely mostly on semi-automated detection and on heavy and computationally intensive local shape analysis.","PeriodicalId":292853,"journal":{"name":"NAFIPS 2007 - 2007 Annual Meeting of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society","volume":"337 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123228850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nakamori, François Modave","doi":"10.1109/NAFIPS.2007.383896","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/NAFIPS.2007.383896","url":null,"abstract":"In practice, it is often necessary to make a decision under uncertainty. In the case of interval uncertainty, for each alternative i, instead of the exact value vi of the objective function, we only have an interval vi = [vi-,vi-.] of possible values. In this case, it is reasonable to assume that each value vi is uniformly distributed on the corresponding interval [vi-,vi-.], and to take the probability that Vi is the largest as the probability of selecting the i-th alternative. In some practical situations, we have fuzzy uncertainty, i.e., for every alternative i, we have a fuzzy number Vi describing the value of the objective function. Then, for every degree i, we have an interval Vi(alpha), the a-cut of the corresponding fuzzy number. For each alpha, we can assume the uniform distributions on the corresponding alpha-cuts and get a probability Pi(alpha) that vi will be selected for this alpha. From the practical viewpoint, it is desirable to combine these probabilities into a single probability corresponding to fuzzy uncertainty. In deriving the appropriate combination, we use the fact that fuzzy values are not uniquely defined, different procedures can lead to differently scaled values. It turns out that the only scaling-invariant distribution on the set of all the degrees alpha is a uniform distribution. So, we justify the choice of int Pi(alpha) dalpha as the probability that under fuzzy uncertainty, an alternative i will be selected.","PeriodicalId":292853,"journal":{"name":"NAFIPS 2007 - 2007 Annual Meeting of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131376751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
