The most commonly occurs due to accessory pathway. Clinical symptoms are more severe in the neonatal period than childhood period, and sign of heart failure may be seen. Therefore urgent treatment is required. Most of these cases can be controlled with medical therapy; catheter ablation may be very rarely required. A 34 days old patient with supraventricular tachycardia which cannot be controlled with classical therapy is presented.","PeriodicalId":290827,"journal":{"name":"Gaziantep Medical Journal","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123570825","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the study was to study effect of age on the site of mandibular fracture. The study included 100 patients (80 were males and the rest were females) with mandibular injuries admitted to Maxillofacial Unit, Specialized Hospital for Surgery in Baghdad from April 1996 to December 1996. The majority of those patients were of civilian type of injury, and a few of them were of bullet injury. The highest number of patients' age was between 20 to 29 years, males constitute higher numbers than females. The common etiology for mandibular fractures were fight (35%), and fall from height (31%). The common site of single fracture was angle (42.31%), and in the multiple fractures were condyler and parasymphysis (27.27%). Mandibular fracture is more common in younger age group (20-29 years) and then 30-39 years. This study showed that fight and falls are most common cause of mandibular fracture in younger men affecting angle and condylar region.","PeriodicalId":290827,"journal":{"name":"Gaziantep Medical Journal","volume":"212 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123583278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In imaging studies, tumors localized to the pancreas can resemble lymphoma. Especially in elderly patients, these tumors which appear like pancreatic cancer are sometimes left untreated by physicians, without confirming with biopsy, because the expected survival is extremely short. In this case report we examine how these discrepancies could be resolved.","PeriodicalId":290827,"journal":{"name":"Gaziantep Medical Journal","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128916855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In full-term infants, postnatal closure of the ductus is effected in two phases: smooth muscle constriction produces functional closure of the lumen of the ductus within 18 to 24 hours after birth; and anatomical occlusion of the lumen occurs over the next few days or weeks. Over the past two decades, transcatheter occlusion of patent ductus arteriosus has evolved to be the procedure of choice. Several devices have been used to close patent ductus arteriosus in children. Coils are generally used for small PDAs and occluding devices for larger PDAs.","PeriodicalId":290827,"journal":{"name":"Gaziantep Medical Journal","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115979975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Patients who had less then total thyroidectomy in their first operations with DTC pathology reports, went through gamma probe supported completion thyroidectomy, gamma probe efficiency was examined. In preoperative period, mean TSH value was identified as 1.48 mIU/l. 0.1mCi liquid I-131 was given to the patients after minimum 2 hours of starvation period one day before the day of surgery. All the areas where there was a signal over the background values were resected out from thyroid channel. While mean background radiation value was 24.04 cps (2-49) and mean basal radiation value of thyroid lodge was 753.09 cps (29-5156), after resection mean radiation value of thyroid lodge was measured as 13.4 cps (1-47). Postoperative TSH blood level before suppression therapy was measured as 52.86 mIU/l average. In post operative period all patients' (100%) thyroglobulin levels decreased. In the operations supported by gamma probe, we did not observe any increase in complication rates compared to literature. These results suggest that completion total thyroidectomy with gamma probe makes post operative treatment and follow up easier by providing more efficient surgical resection, and also completion thyroidectomy with gamma probe is the most efficient method in avoiding recurrences.","PeriodicalId":290827,"journal":{"name":"Gaziantep Medical Journal","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125926846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Knowledge gap, loose drug control, loads on health professionals and patient beliefs are some of the factors contributing to this problem. Therefore, the main objective of the present study was to enhance rational drug use by assessing patterns of drug use with the help of World Health Organization’s Core indicators in Bule Hora Hospital, Borena Zone, and Southern Ethiopia. WHO designed criteria was used to evaluate rational drug use cross sectionally in Bule Hora Hospital in Southern Ethiopia from February 10 to 20, 2013. Three hundred eighty four prescription papers were systematically selected for retrospective study while prospectively 30 patients were chosen. Pretested questionnaires and WHO designed criteria were used and the results were compared with WHO reference standards and recommendations. The result of the present study showed over prescription of drugs per prescription paper (2.33). Somewhat less time was devoted to consultation (5.50 minutes) and dispensing (1.22 minutes). The majority of patients (73.3%) knew the dosage of prescribed medications. Of eighteen prescribers, thirteen were aware of existence of the essential drug list. Based on the finding of this research, almost all WHO core indicators of rational drug use were not met. Antibiotics were the most widely used drug classes. Therefore, in order to control the problem of rational drug use, the ministry of health should design a strategic plan to monitor adequate implementation of WHO designed criteria for rational drug use.","PeriodicalId":290827,"journal":{"name":"Gaziantep Medical Journal","volume":"42 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121017118","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
