For grid-connected inverters, there are two basic control modes: current source mode (CSM) and voltage source mode (VSM), also known as grid-following control and grid-forming control. Existing studies show that the CSM-controlled grid-connected inverters can operate stably under the strong grid, while the system stability margin decreases or even becomes unstable under the weak grid. The VSM-controlled grid-connected inverters are just the opposite. Some literature proposes a hybrid-mode control for the multi-inverter system under weak grids: the system contains both CSM-controlled grid-connected inverters and VSM-controlled grid-connected inverters, thus effectively improving the overall stability of the system. However, the existing literature does not quantify the capacity of the VSM-controlled grid-connected inverters in this system. Therefore, a stability analysis based on multi-performance-index constraints, such as stability margin and control bandwidth, is conducted for this hybrid-mode controlled system, and the optimal capacity configuration of VSM-controlled grid-connected inverters is obtained in this paper. Finally, the experimental results prove the correctness of the analysis.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125799547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it would be expensive and resource-consuming to use a real radio telescope in the circuit design process. In this paper, three Analog Front-end Circuit Architectures (AFCAs) are proposed to generate the analog pulse, including the superposition, attenuator, and attenuator-based superposition structures. The generated pulse is close to the real pulsar signal in shape, amplitude, and noise level. Next, a pulsar-based timing synchronization framework that can be used to improve the timing accuracy of the wide-area monitoring systems is developed to process the analog data. Multiple experiments using the simulated pulse and real pulse signals are conducted. The results demonstrated that the designed AFCAs can easily generate analog pulses, and is convenient and adjustable.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125803548","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The international standard IEC 60755 classifies RCDs into four types in accordance with their sensitivity and the shape of fault leakage current. According to IEC 60755, each type of RCD has its own test procedure and guide for suitable demonstration circuits. Many commercial RCD products cannot meet the RCD specifications in some of the demonstration circuits. Based on the magnetic modulation principle, the work proposes a novel type B RCD detector suited most for power electronic installations to meet IEC 60755 specifications. Compared with the commercial products, the performance of the presented RCD can be verified. The proposed methodology may serve as valuable references for RCD applications.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124235670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, an improper size and management of energy storage system will deteriorate the technical and economic performance of the shipboard microgrids. In this paper, a joint optimization scheme is developed for ESS sizing and optimal power management for the whole shipboard power system. Different from traditional ESS sizing methods, which solve a minimum cost problem, a novel coordinated framework is proposed to jointly optimize the ESS size and voyage route for an AES, considering the time-dependent electricity price of onshore power. The main goals of this method are to reduce the capital and operational cost, GHG emissions and navigation time. Furthermore, the dynamic electricity prices are adopted to assist ship operators to select the optimal voyage routine. Several cases are compared to verify the proposed algorithm and numeral simulation results clearly demonstrate the high efficiency of the proposed method and necessity of navigation route scheduling.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"8 48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124494516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three PWM waveforms including high-frequency signals, middle-frequency signals, and low-frequency signals are utilized to generate desired PWM waveforms in order to attain the efficient step-down voltage gain of the buck converter. The three PWM waveforms are integrated into the single PWM control signal in which there exists multiple switching pulses in the power switch to result in eleven operating modes for the proposed converter. The small-signal analysis is also considered in the proposed converter by including the switched circuit model. Based on the volt–second balance condition, the proposed scheme is capable of generating the voltage conversion ratio which can be represented as the cubic function of the duty cycle if the duty cycles of the three designed PWM waveforms are the same under the continuous conduction mode. The proposed converter appears effective in cost since there is no need to modify the circuit in the traditional buck converter. Finally, the numerical simulations and the hardware experiments are conducted to verify the proposed scheme.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124775559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The developed method is based on defining a survivability index Γ, which is formulated in terms of the difference between pre-activity and post-activity power injection into a load bus. In order to accommodate steady-state frequency and voltage tolerances, boundary values for the index Γ are defined for each load bus. The proposed survivability-based method is implemented and tested for the Barbados power system. Tests are conducted for integrating distributed generation units, and for implementing demand response at several load buses. Results of conducted tests show that the proposed method can accurately quantify the impacts of load-sides activities on the functionality of a power system. In addition, test results demonstrate that the accuracy of the survivability-based method is not affected by the type or rating of distributed generation units and/or times and durations of demand response actions.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122069149","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Eigenvalue analysis and nonlinear-model simulations are both performed to examine the effectiveness of the proposed GUPFC equipped with the designed damping controllers. A cluster of controllable load and generations (CLGs) is referred to as VB, and it operates similarly as the battery storage that reduces the size of the energy storage device (ESS). Aggregators use the VB to distribute power among CLGs when the grid has excess or shortage capacity. The management of a microgrid with renewable energy instability and VB is a difficult problem; as a result, this proposed study introduces adaptive robust optimization (ARO) for unit commitment (UC) problems in microgrids that takes VB into account. Three separate UC cases are depicted in the proposed scheme. Case 1 treats only optimization and deterministic UC problem for the day ahead forecasted load; Case 2 discloses the UC with treating robust optimization, which considers forested reference day ahead load utilizing robust constraints. Case 3 emphasizes real-time load considering the worst uncertainty/prediction error of renewables and virtual battery for polishing the actual load. However, additional steps must be taken to prevent security issues including ground fault currents and leakage currents, which can be prevented by connecting the PV panel to the ground through a parasitic capacitor. The proposal for new topologies with their control techniques and the modulation schemes have been inspired by the reduction of leakage currents issues. In this paper, improved topologies of single-phase transformerless inverter are proposed to reduce the leakage current and total harmonic distortion (THD) of grid current. These new topologies are named as H9 and H10 inverters according to the number of the switching devices in the inverter. Pulse width modulation (PWM) method is used for the inverters to suppress harmonics at the output grid current. The proposed H9 and H10 topologies can reduce the THD to 1.62% and 2.09%, respectively, at the grid current. The proposed topologies are extensively tested using simulation and test outcomes are presented.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121343893","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
