Moreover, modern control algorithms need to process information acquired from distributed, synchronized measurement systems, and embedded in data streams with high degree of correlation. The control requirements represent a true challenge in case when multiple measurement approaches are used: on one side, the existing time-aggregation based measurements are offered by currently deployed IEDs (SCADA framework), including smart meters and other merging units while on the other side, the high-resolution waveform-based monitoring devices like PMUs with fault-recorder functionality are increasingly deployed in distribution systems as well. In this paper is introduced a methodology for deriving an equivalent “accuracy class” of the measurement channel where the individual measurement device has associated a defined measurement quality and embeds specified aggregation algorithms.","PeriodicalId":288670,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Workshop on Applied Measurements for Power Systems Proceedings (AMPS)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127685805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considering their relatively high power demand and flexibility in terms of charging time, EVs can offer opportunities for demand side management. In particular, the socalled EV Aggregators or Charge Optimization Systems (COS) can optimize the charging schedule of EVs with respect to a number of factors, such as available renewable generation and electricity market prices. However, the optimized schedules must be validated to assure that they do not lead to violation of any operational constraint of the power system. To this aim, major changes in the charging schedules to be applied by COS must be checked with the system operator. This paper describes an EV schedule verification system based on artificial neural networks. This system verifies if the COS schedules can be directly applied or if some modifications are necessary. The proposed approach is tested on two sample distribution systems.","PeriodicalId":288670,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Workshop on Applied Measurements for Power Systems Proceedings (AMPS)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124511758","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, some of the most recent and efficient methodologies used for synchrophasors estimation under dynamic conditions are considered. The techniques are implemented in a modular measurement platform and are validated by means of test signals under both static and dynamic conditions defined in IEEE Standard C37.118.1. A way to speed-up synchrophasor estimation algorithms based on the use of the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) refers to the usage of stable and accurate recursive processes for the DFT estimation. In this respect, this paper presents a synchrophasor estimation algorithm, called Interpolated-Modulated Sliding DFT (IpMSDFT), characterized by high accuracies and reduced latencies, enabling reporting rates up to thousands of synchrophasor per second. It is composed by two stages: (i) a guaranteed-stable technique for sample-by-sample DFT computation; (ii) an enhanced version of the classical IpDFT algorithm for synchrophasor estimation. The algorithm is analytically formulated and its digital design tailored to allow a feasible deployment on an FPGA-based PMU. The IpMSDFT-based PMU is finally validated with respect to the numerical stability of the proposed solution, its reporting latencies and the achievable reporting rates.","PeriodicalId":288670,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Workshop on Applied Measurements for Power Systems Proceedings (AMPS)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132098090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed algorithm utilizes only PMU synchronized measurements and does not require any data to be provided by the electric utility. Line parameters for each section of the line and Thevenin's equivalents (TEs) of the system at each of the three terminals are determined online, utilizing three independent sets of pre-fault PMU measurements. This ensures that the actual operating conditions of the system are adequately considered. Fault-location accuracy evaluation of the proposed algorithm is performed with respect to various factors such as fault position and fault type. The proposed algorithm is simulated using both PSCAD/EMTDC and MATLAB and tested on a 500 kV system. Simulation results reveal that the developed algorithm is capable of producing reliable and very accurate solutions.","PeriodicalId":288670,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Workshop on Applied Measurements for Power Systems Proceedings (AMPS)","volume":"31 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125657675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the meanwhile, content-centric networking (CCN) is perceived as a promising approach where the content itself becomes the core of communication instead of the address or location in the future internet research. Based on its caching advantage, it is widely believed that CCN can effectively reduce the AMI network bandwidth. This paper aims to apply the CCN approach on AMI system, which is called CCN-AMI. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to distribute contents or requests based on CCN in AMI system. Moreover, a simulation-based performance evaluation is employed to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed CCN-AMI approach in traffic control for developing AMI system in smart grid.","PeriodicalId":288670,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Workshop on Applied Measurements for Power Systems Proceedings (AMPS)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134184144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
