However, when a system is working following several workflows sharing resources, it is very difficult to analyze the behavior of the systems with mutual influences between workflows due to the shared resources, and to decide whether problems may be caused by such mutual influences, despite the need to do so in order to develop trustworthy autonomic systems. To solve this problem, we developed a verification framework to identify whether constraint violations could occur in a system working and following workflows sharing resources. In this paper, we initially define the system management workflows. Next, we show the procedure to translate these workflows into hybrid automata, with the mutual influences between workflows taken into consideration. Finally, we show how to detect possible constraint violations by adopting a model checking technique to the hybrid automata through a case study.","PeriodicalId":288478,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Autonomic and Autonomous Systems (ICAS'07)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125306092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We refer to these activities as self-inspection and we consider them in the context of Internet-based services that are subject to workloads characterized by burst arrivals and heavy-tailed distributions. The large majority of the mechanisms driving these systems must take fast decisions on the basis of past and/or present load conditions of the system resources. In this context, self-inspection requires an adequate representation of the load behavior of the system resources that makes it possible to perform good actions under soft real-time constraints. In this paper, we show through a large set of experiments the need of basing load analyses and decisions on linear and non-linear models, such as the exponential moving average and the 90-percentile models. All the considered models are applied to a multi-tier Web-based system that is instrumented with suitable self-inspection mechanisms at operating system level. However, the results can be extended to other Internet-based contexts where the systems are characterized by similar workload and resource behaviors.","PeriodicalId":288478,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Autonomic and Autonomous Systems (ICAS'07)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117083880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some kinds of devices can be used as our clients including, for example, high-performance mobile phone, which are equipped with Java virtual machine and web-browsing facility. Our integrated server is designed to play intensive roles of web and e-mail services. It can obtain JPEG images from network cameras, process them, and accumulate them into its database. It can also receive some types of requests from clients, analyze them and perform several kinds of services such as monitoring, controlling and so on. Almost all software of our surveillance system is written in Java programming language, because of easy and powerful description of GUI as well as network programming. With enhanced facilities for mobile phone, our system has been available for many applications.","PeriodicalId":288478,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Autonomic and Autonomous Systems (ICAS'07)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130201578","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This cooperation has to be formally described. In this paper, we propose to describe service orchestrations through several UML2 diagrams. Component model is a tool for describing each service external interfaces. Collaboration diagrams describe the structural composition of services. And activity diagrams describe the orchestration of services. Furthermore, the second contribution of this article is to mix the composition meta-model with a context meta- model. Thus, we propose to include the descriptions of context aware composition adaptations into the composition meta-model. Describing compositions and their context-awareness with a model (conform to a meta-model) allows middleware with model-transformation capabilities to produce ad-hoc compositions in term of adaptation to current context execution and in term of target execution platforms. The article is illustrated through a concrete context-aware composition example. Our proposition is compared with other related works.","PeriodicalId":288478,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Autonomic and Autonomous Systems (ICAS'07)","volume":"136 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131585915","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the most frequent daily activity of target reaching movement of human upper limb, teach and playback method is proposed to generate vivid human motion, which combines respective merits of parametric keyframe, kinematics, dynamics, and motion capture methods together. First, the tip trajectory and velocity rules are learned and estimated by a weighted least squares support vector machine (WLS-SVM) and a combined half-Gaussians model respectively. Then an inverse kinematic method with dynamic constraint, damped least squares (DLS), is used to calculate the joint angles of the upper limb. Finally, the experimental results show that once the target position is appointed, the 3D virtual human skeleton model can generate realistic reaching movement.","PeriodicalId":288478,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Autonomic and Autonomous Systems (ICAS'07)","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129495696","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current services underlie a traditional service life cycle, leaving little room for autonomous service behavior, causing that service autonomy is commonly realized through rule-based adaptation mechanisms. Within this paper, a biologically inspired life-cycle is proposed, enabling service evolution in addition to service adaptation. This concept is then extended to the services' design phase, providing the autonomous creation and transformation of services in order to respond to changes in the user's requirements or surrounding and the ability to generate new functionalities potentially not yet requested by to the user.","PeriodicalId":288478,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Autonomic and Autonomous Systems (ICAS'07)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115871828","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The rich content of multimedia data has called for innovative annotation technique and advanced IR methods for retrieving multimedia information. Great efforts have been made through MPEG-7 standards for multimedia metadata description, but difficult to manage and integrate due to lack of its formal semantics. While, complex retrieval techniques can enhance metadata search ability, fundamental to efficient searching and retrieval systems are based on how annotated data are organized and managed. Our research approach aims to provide a compressive context-based mapping of multimedia semantic organization and management based on a concept of a semantic space. This paper presents a formalized core context-based multimedia ontology model (a semantic Concept) that facilitates multimedia semantic organization and management. The formalized model has been used to generate RDF-OWL context-based multimedia semantics.","PeriodicalId":288478,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Autonomic and Autonomous Systems (ICAS'07)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114538364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For continuous systems, this problem is typically handled by interpolation techniques. Unfortunately, when the plant contains both continuous and discrete variables, the interpolation approach does not work well. To cope with this kind of systems, we propose a general methodology that exploits explicit model checking in an innovative way to automatically synthesize a (time-) optimal numerical controller from a plant specification and apply an optimized strengthening algorithm only on the most significant states, in order to reach an acceptable robustness degree. We implemented all the algorithms within our CGMurphi tool, an extension of the well-known CMurphi verifier, and tested the effectiveness of our approach by applying it to the well-known truck and trailer obstacles avoidance problem.","PeriodicalId":288478,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Autonomic and Autonomous Systems (ICAS'07)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115892360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multiple requests in a very short time increase the number of connections and push the server to the limit. For autonomous server operations many of the offered services need to be self-managed. A collaborative system involving nodes, base stations (BSs) and servers is developed, as well as a new query processing method based on group and query prediction mobility (GQM) via data mining techniques. Data sources' administration during the execution of the query plan becomes primary interest especially for the starting query server. The proposed server grouping process, server's scale up capabilities and the application of data mining concepts in a wireless environment can contribute a lot to optimize the query plan and increase server independency. Various methods in distributed data exploration and exploitation, supporting server's semi- autonomous operational behavior, are developed. Simulation results are provided.","PeriodicalId":288478,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Autonomic and Autonomous Systems (ICAS'07)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126825034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

License management helps to track usage and protect service from abuse. License agreements provide the basis for enforcement and regulation. The automation of license agreements is desired by providers and subscribers to improve transaction efficiency, give flexibility, and minimize unwanted cost. We have proposed a framework, called SmArt (semantic agreement) system, that enables agreement automation in the autonomic computing context using ontology and agent technologies.
