Most of them allow users to extend the range of functionalities their websites offer. However, they potentially jeopardize the privacy of users. Indeed, they collect, store and process personal pieces of information. Recent studies show that users feel they lack control over information. They also show that users distrust apps providers and would rather turn to their friends or family when they choose apps. In this paper we propose a model-driven approach to empower end-users with an extended control over their information. Our work is implemented as a web-based tool to compose apps and manage end-users privacy requirements. Our work showcases the unexploited possibilities of current web protocols and technologies in terms of privacy management.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"123 7","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131745502","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"A context ontology for service provisioning and consumption","authors":"Oscar Cabrera, Xavier Franch, Jordi Marco","doi":"10.1109/RCIS.2014.6861079","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/RCIS.2014.6861079","url":null,"abstract":"Nowadays services as those provided by smart cities, health smart services, as well as common services (e.g., telephonic services, e-mail services), have a great economic impact for organisations and represent an important mean to deliver value to their consumers. The malfunctions of both the services themselves as well as the entities responsible for their execution and consumption might cause economic losses, consumers' dissatisfaction and even shorten the service life cycle, among other risks. To avoid malfunctions beyond maintaining quality levels desired, it is important to take into account the widest possible context information that cause either positive or negative effects around services and entities involved in their provisioning and consumption. In this paper, we propose an upper ontology for service provisioning and consumption from a service-centric perspective. Specifically, we focus on software services, although we could argue for more generic applications. The contribution is the analysis, evaluation and reuse of existing proposals on context models to identify the strengths and weaknesses of its current status as well as to identify contexts not yet considered, and consolidate an integrated view of these proposals. The ultimate intention is to provide a well-defined and consolidated infrastructure of context information as a common body of knowledge, that could be instantiated on variety of use cases, for example, to be instantiated by monitors as context information useful to be monitored, or to be used as context information that allows knowing which contexts affect a service when a user consumes it, among others.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131864227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current software systems are not prepared to accommodate how users differ in their perception of the considerate nature of an interaction. Being socially inconsiderate affects the relationship between colleagues, their cooperation level, willingness to interact and, ultimately, the entire business. Hence, software acting on behalf of people or facilitating their interaction should be expected to support a rationale where both socialness and business goals are recognised. However, despite this vital role, the sociality of business interactions has rarely been considered within information systems development and research, even among areas that attempt to align the system with business needs. In this paper, we conduct an empirical study, following a mixed method approach, trying to explore the users' attitude and their perception of the elements of consideration in software-mediate interaction and what they would expect future software to provide in relation to consideration. We list a set of research challenges for information systems which embed consideration as a main social requirement.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"2020 45","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134482027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A possible approach to improve the performance is to combine different recommendation techniques in a hybrid system that benefits from their complementarity and strengths. Our goal is to combine case-based reasoning and collaborative filtering to implement a scalable and domain-independent recommender system. The case-based reasoning engine will represent the core module of the system and will use the records of previous similar experiences to make suggestions or create new items to recommend. The collaborative filtering engine will be mainly used to adapt the recommendations to the preferences of the users and ensure a degree of diversity and novelty in the suggested items. Although the system needs to use the domain knowledge to generate personalized recommendations, it must be designed in a domain-independent way in order to make it adaptable to any application. In this paper, we present the global architecture of our hybrid recommender system and the ontology-based reasoning approach that will allow us to overcome the constraint of domain-independence.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133049771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The goal of these systems is to act as an intermediary between data publication and the user, pre-processing data and adding value to them. This pre-processing involves data integration, data aggregation, data re-structuring and data quality measurement and improvement. A Business Process (BP) model helps us to specify the users, activities, precedence relations between activities and restrictions, that have to be carried out in order to obtain the desired output. In this paper we present a two level BP specification approach for constructing a WW which has two distinctive characteristics: it manages data quality and it is configurable. The first level BP model is focused on helping the user to configure the web data sources and the desired data quality characteristics, the second level BP uses the defined configuration to generate the WW. Quality characteristics are also defined for the intermediate data sources used to populate the WW.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115066507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we study such evolving graphs through the evolution of their community structure. More specifically, we build on existing approaches for the identification of stable communities over time. This paper presents two contributions.We first propose a new way to compute such stable communities, using a different time scale, called intrinsic time. This intrinsic time is related to the dynamics of the graph (e.g, in terms of link appearance or disappearance) and independent from traditional (extrinsic) time units, like the second. We then show how visualization both at intrinsic and extrinsic time scales can help validating and interpreting the obtained communities. Our results are illustrated on a social network made of contacts among the participants of the 2006 edition of the Infocom conference.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115344398","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In fact, view-based models - called also partial models - are manipulated by different actors (designers), and are thus generally heterogeneous, that is, described with different DSLs (Domain Specific Languages). Instead of building a single global model, which is not realistic, we propose to organize the different partial models as a network of related models, which provides a global view of the system through a correspondence model. As models are modelled separately by different designers, they also evolve separately that induces a problem of consistency. To solve it, we propose a semi-automatic process based on the correspondence model allowing detecting changes, calculating their impacts, and proposing modifications to maintain the consistency among them. The approach is supported by a tool chain and illustrated by the example of a Bug Tracking System.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123498729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has led to the development of a plethora of tools traditionally covering only a small set of features of the process, though it's true than recently more complete tools have arisen. In such a scenario, integration between tools from different precedence becomes key to market evolution and consolidation. This paper proposes a service oriented framework factoring of the core services required to support NGS applications by identifying these services. This conforms a sound basis to provide a toolkit and a reference implementation, whose details are introduced in the work.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125691596","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Crowdsourcing has been used in a variety of disciplines, including information systems development, marketing and operationalization. It has been shown to be a successful model in recommendation systems, multimedia design and evaluation, database design, and search engine evaluation. Despite the increasing academic and industrial interest in crowdsourcing, there is still a high degree of diversity in the interpretation and the application of the concept. This paper analyses the literature and deduces a taxonomy of crowdsourcing. The taxonomy is meant to represent the different configurations of crowdsourcing in its main four pillars: the crowdsourcer, the crowd, the crowdsourced task and the crowdsourcing platform. Our outcome will help researchers and developers as a reference model to concretely and precisely state their particular interpretation and configuration of crowdsourcing.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130044638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multi-layer protection is usually applied to SPAM elimination therefore. Especially blacklisting and greylisting have been proven to be extremely useful because they can eliminate significant part of SPAM messages even before their delivery. The article gives an overview of existing SPAM elimination methods, motivates and describes multilayer anti-SPAM mechanisms and analyses the behavior and the efficiency of the key components of a multilayer system. Weaknesses of the analyzed methods (especially blacklisting and greylisting) are mentioned, too, and recommendations formulated, both based on the author's own measurements.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"155 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132605921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
