This sensor had to be appropriate, in terms of computational cost, in order to be implemented in small robots. This implementation was achieved by a novel signal processing method called Peniel. The associated electronic circuit and the algorithm of this method have as main strengths their circuital simplicity and the low computational cost, respectively. These two characteristics let the sensor to be implemented in two robots of the low cost robotic kit TEAC2H-RI, which was constructed as part of the master thesis of one the authors. The developed system was proved with acrylic, aluminium and glass samples. In the performed experiments those materials were identified with 100% accuracy in all of ten trials. According to the literature review, it is the first time which is achieved the implementation of the ultrasonic material identification in a robotic system.","PeriodicalId":288042,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (ISSPIT)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127409078","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system is based on applying the wavelet transform to EEG signals. In this study it has been used the 64 channels to know in which ones of them exists higher difference between the P300b and the P300a, in order to chose the best four channels that will be used in the application. The results have achieved a 80% success using the bior3.7 the wavelet.","PeriodicalId":288042,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (ISSPIT)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126700503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Advances in satellite sensors have provided new datasets and though less precise than insitu observations, they can be combined altogether to enhance the prediction of particulate matter. In this article we evaluate a methodology for automatic multi-variate estimation of PM10 dry mass concentrations along with a comparison of three different cokriging estimators, which integrate ground measurements of PM10, satellite MODIS-derived retrievals of aerosols optical thickness and further auxiliary data. Results highlight the need for further improvements and studies. The analysis employs the available data in 2007 over the Emilia Romagna region (Padana Plain, Northern Italy), where stagnant meteorological conditions further urge for a comprehensive air quality monitoring. Qualitative PM10 full maps of Emilia Romagna are then automatically yielded on-line in a dynamic GIS environment for multi-temporal analysis on air quality.","PeriodicalId":288042,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (ISSPIT)","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128069418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So, No-Reference (NR) Image Quality Assessment (IQA) seeks to assign quality scores that are consistent with human perception but without an explicit comparison with the reference image. Unfortunately, the field of NR IQA has been largely unexplored. This paper presents a new NR Image Semantic Quality Approach (NR-ISQA) that employs adaptive Neural Networks (NN) to assess the semantic quality of image color. This NN measures the quality of an image by predicting the mean opinion score (MOS) of human observer, using a set of proposed key features especially to describe color. This challenging issues aim at emulating judgment and replacing very complex and time-consuming subjective quality assessment. Two variants of our approach are proposed: the direct and the progressive of the overall quality image. The results show the performances of the proposed approach compared with the human performances.","PeriodicalId":288042,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (ISSPIT)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133912181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several rectangularity measures already exist in literature, and all of them evaluate how much the shape considered differs from a perfect rectangle. But all existing measures assume that all rectangles have the same shape, and a consequence is that these measures do not distinguish among the rectangles whose edge-ration differs. In this paper we consider that differently elongated rectangles have different shape and propose a family of new rectangularity measures which distinguish among such rectangles. New rectangularity measures are invariant with respect to translation, rotation and scaling transformations. In addition, we introduce a tuning parameter which enables an additional flexibility of the new measures with respect to performing applications.","PeriodicalId":288042,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (ISSPIT)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131798294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, based on the deconvolution methods (DAMAS), we propose a robust super-resolution approach with sparsity constraint (SC-RDAMAS) to estimate both the positions and powers of the sources, as well as the noise variance in low Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) situation. For effectively applying sparsity constraint, we explore a better initialization of source number to determine the bound of total source powers. By simulations and real data, we show that our SC-RDAMAS can obtain more accurate estimations of source positions and averaging powers, and can be more robust to strong noise interference, by comparison with the state of the art methods: the Beamforming, DAMAS, DAMAS with sparsity constraint (SC-DAMAS) and the Covariance Matrix Fitting (CMF) method. Indeed the computation burden of the proposed method is much lower than the CMF, so that our SC-RDAMAS is more applicable to scan the large region with super resolutions.","PeriodicalId":288042,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (ISSPIT)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132628171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we proposed a client server communication architecture in wireless medium using progressive mesh to build a dynamic level of details of 3D objects. The dense triangle mesh is decomposed into base mesh and a series of displacement values. This scheme facilitates mesh transmission, storage and selective refinement as well.","PeriodicalId":288042,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (ISSPIT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115693554","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Stojanovic","doi":"10.1002/ett.2591","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1002/ett.2591","url":null,"abstract":"We consider a hierarchical underwater acoustic sensor network architecture in which the sensors and the collector stations operate in distinct layers. The hierarchical architecture is motivated by the property of the acoustic underwater transmission medium that for each transmission distance there exists an operating frequency for which the narrow-band signal-to-noise ratio is maximized. The sensors and collector stations are consequently allocated different operating frequencies. We assume a uniform distribution of both sensors and collector stations over the finite area of the sensing field. The sensors are organized into clusters forming virtual transmit/receive arrays. The collector stations on the other hand are equipped with co-located transmit/receive arrays. We adopt a communication theoretic approach and study the interdependence of the sustainable number of hops through the network, end-to-end frame error probability, power and bandwidth allocation. The analysis is performed under the assumption of Ricean fading and interference from other nodes within the same layer of the hierarchy. We present numerical examples that illustrate the network performance and demonstrate that there are preferred operating frequencies which ensure network operation without any cross-interference between the collector network and the sensor network.","PeriodicalId":288042,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (ISSPIT)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"119669127","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The development has been made with the help of supervised machine learning techniques, in a two steps process: firstly, obtaining the conditions that must satisfy the pixels, and secondly, obtaining the features that the image of the skin lesion should have, in relation to the region and the image itself. Tested over a database of 887 images, it has been obtained a results of 89.06% correctly detected. Moreover, as a part of the proposed method itself (derived from the close relationship with the blue-white veil) has been developed a method for obtaining the pixel rules for the dark-red patch of pigment pattern (“a patch of dark red pigmentation”) recognition. Tested over 80 images, it has been obtained a results of 95.14% correctly detected.","PeriodicalId":288042,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (ISSPIT)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120956935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multiplexed-stream architecture (MSA) for the considered CFO estimation algorithm has been designed and evaluated for field programmable gate array (FPGA) implementation using Xilinx system generator (XSG) tool. The proposed architecture is a resource-efficient implementation where a single fast Fourier transform (FFT) core can be shared between the parallel-streams. The effect of finite hardware precision on the CFO estimation accuracy is accessed in terms of mean square error (MSE). The simulation results demostrated that the proposed architecture consumes at least 25% less resources compared with the parallel-stream implementation.","PeriodicalId":288042,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (ISSPIT)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121375551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
