Conventional powertrains are operated at their limits and thus efficient electric systems are entering the applications of mobile work machines. A simple electric powertrain consists of an energy source attached to an inverter-fed electric machine. Adding a DC/DC converter to this powertrain enables an adjustment of the DC-link voltage to the operating point of the machine and increases the efficiency of the work machine. This paper addresses the dependencies of the DC-link voltage regarding to the powertrain losses. An electric powertrain is simulated and verified using measured test bench data. Especially the losses of the electric machine are examined and the correlation to the DC-link voltage is analyzed. The focus is on identifying relevant load cycles of mobile work machines and operating points to gain an efficiency benefit by adjusting the DC-link voltage.","PeriodicalId":287492,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway, Ship Propulsion and Road Vehicles (ESARS)","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124741559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Estimated size/weights and survivability of various “breaker-based” and “breaker-less topologies are compared. “Breaker-Less”, Current Source Converter (CSC) based architectures have the highest power density but at the cost of lower survivability. Expanding the role of galvanically isolating converters within the system (i.e. SSTs) increases power density and survivability.","PeriodicalId":287492,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway, Ship Propulsion and Road Vehicles (ESARS)","volume":"149 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115585683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ATRU is seen as the most reliable way readily to be applied in the MEA. Interestingly, there is no model of ATRUs suitable for unbalanced or faulty conditions at the moment. This paper is aimed to fill this gap and develop functional models suitable for both balanced and unbalanced conditions. Using the fact that the DC voltage and current are strongly related to the voltage and current vectors at the AC terminals of ATRUs, a functional model has been developed for a type of asymmetric ATRUs. The accuracy and efficiency of the developed model is demonstrated by comparing with corresponding detailed switching models. The developed functional model shows significant improvement of simulation efficiency, especially under balanced conditions.","PeriodicalId":287492,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway, Ship Propulsion and Road Vehicles (ESARS)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115614724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Electric Double Layer Capacitor (EDLC) is assumed as an energy storage device because of its high power density, long lifetime and quick charge/discharge. The proposed method can determine the optimal capacitance of the EDLC and placement of charging facility at different cases for the purpose of saving the energy consumption. The trend of the optimal design of the EDLC sizing and the charging facility placement is finally discussed qualitatively.","PeriodicalId":287492,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway, Ship Propulsion and Road Vehicles (ESARS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115722708","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These diode-inductor basic units (D-L) receive energy from input source in the time interval of turning on the switch and by delivering it to the voltage multiplier cells in the time interval of turning off the switch lead to increase voltage gain. Therefore, the converter is able to generate high voltage gain in low duty cycle. The proposed converter consists of higher voltage gain and lower voltage stress on power switches in comparison with the conventional converters. In addition, this converter includes of simple control system because there is only one power switch in it. In this paper, the operating of the proposed converter in three different modes of continuous conduction mode (CCM), discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) and boundary conduction mode (BCM) are investigated. Moreover, a method to design the nominal voltage and current values of used elements are presented. Finally, the accuracy performance of the proposed converter is verified through simulation results in PSCAD/EMTDC software program.","PeriodicalId":287492,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway, Ship Propulsion and Road Vehicles (ESARS)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114672933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This structure has no commutator and brush device, especially HTS material applied to the motor armature part, this can improve the overall efficiency of superconducting motor, solve the problem of the AC loss of motor. The 3D FEM software was used to set up a simplified model of the motor, through the simulation analysis, the structure is reasonable Hence this superconducting motor has a larger advantage compared with traditional structure of motor in the weight, volume, efficiency, loss, reliability. This trend of incremental electrification has brought along benefits such as reductions in weight and volume, performance optimization and reduced life-cycle costs for the aircraft operator. It has however also increased the necessary engine power off take and has made the electrical networks of modern MEA larger and more complex. In pursuit of new, more efficient electrical architectures, paralleled or interconnected generation is thought to be one platform towards improved performance and fuel savings. This paper discusses the historical background and associated challenges of paralleled generation and evaluates through modelling and simulation, the compliance of potential solutions to the airworthiness and power quality standards. It concludes by examining the impact of network protection system and extent of standards compliance on the competitiveness of these potential solutions.","PeriodicalId":287492,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway, Ship Propulsion and Road Vehicles (ESARS)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129821286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The generator characteristics are studied by simulation over a large speed range using a nonlinear Simulink model based on the magnetization curves of the machine. A simple power control scheme is proposed in which the turn-on angle is kept constant while the conduction angle is used to control the DC output current. The SRG closed-loop power control performance obtained for the operating ranges of 5000-10000 rpm and 20-30 kW is presented to validate the proposed control scheme.","PeriodicalId":287492,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Electrical Systems for Aircraft, Railway, Ship Propulsion and Road Vehicles (ESARS)","volume":"80 8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128133302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
