This paper therefore, examined the emerging issues in the achievement of the objectives of the UBE programme in Nigeria. The paper discusses the meaning of Basic Education and the mandates of UBE as provided for in the UBE Act of 2004 in Nigeria. The paper further identified and discussed the contemporary issues in the attainment of the objectives of the programme, which include: funding, teacher quality and quantity, gap between policy formulation and implementation, non-implementation of sanctions on erring parents, politics of enrolment figure and unreliable data and inadequate quality assurance measures. The paper among others recommends that there should be adequate provision of funds for the programme, re-organisation of the system of teacher preparation for the UBE schools, provision of the appropriate sanctions to the erring parents as provided for in the UBE Act and the creation of child-friendly learning environment.","PeriodicalId":286383,"journal":{"name":"INTERDISCIPLINARY JOURNAL OF EDUCATION (IJE)","volume":"2016 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133332561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We highlighted: the rationale for USEM and the distinction between education industry and market, the market concept in relation to USEM, relationship between visible and invisible hands in USEM, accountability measure in USEM, and examples of market and government failure. We concluded that since all successful markets are subject to effective regulation, the visible hand must superintend its invisible counterpart more effectively. Finally, we recommend the need for the visible hand to strengthen its oversight role, mobilize more resources and improve accountability measures; otherwise, expansion of secondary education will be a misspent investment if the invisible and visible hands are left to fail.","PeriodicalId":286383,"journal":{"name":"INTERDISCIPLINARY JOURNAL OF EDUCATION (IJE)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133384157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is proposed that appropriate application of ASERVIC competencies along with specific religious – Christianity and Islam – therapeutic skills and techniques in counselling will result into religious harmony in Nigeria. Hence, a counselling model that will foster religious tolerance, encourage unity, enhance effective integrative religious counselling, and promote worthwhile decision making was outlined. ","PeriodicalId":286383,"journal":{"name":"INTERDISCIPLINARY JOURNAL OF EDUCATION (IJE)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121798434","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This fact goes back to the time when Islam penetrated the East African coast. The interest of Arabs who introduced and taught Islam to the people of the coast was trade and many of them were neither trained nor did they possess any professional skills to propagate Islam. They did this job on a voluntary basis in anticipation of God’s reward. On the contrary, the Christian missionaries who came to the region were skilled, equipped and had been officially sent by various authorities to do the job of spreading Christianity. Therefore, when they arrived in the region, they embarked on building well equipped schools and all their activities were geared towards promoting Christianity among the whole population which scared Muslim parents from taking their children to these schools. Consequently, Muslim schools – mainly madrasah pl. madaris, were built to counter the force of missionary schools. These madaris, however, were not by any standards, comparable with the missionary schools. Unfortunately, this situation has continued to this day in some of the madaris due to numerous reasons, some of which are of the Muslims’ own making and which I believe could be avoided provided that the Muslims put their heads together. In spite of this fact, these schools have contributed highly to the development of human resource in Uganda and elsewhere, as highlighted in this paper. May Allah help me. Amiin.","PeriodicalId":286383,"journal":{"name":"INTERDISCIPLINARY JOURNAL OF EDUCATION (IJE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126322131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the paper is to provide a guideline for drawing a conceptual framework to students writing proposals based on scientific justification for data analysis. The paper explains how constructs are interlinked to develop a conceptual framework. The article argues that a conceptual framework is not a fixed network of variables but possesses ontological, epistemological, and methodological assumptions and each concept within a conceptual framework plays an ontological or epistemological role. The ontological assumptions explain how knowledge is or what knowledge is, the epistemological assumptions relate to how things really are done and how things certainly work in an assumed reality, and the methodological assumptions relate to the process of building the conceptual framework and assessing what it can tell us about the real world. Therefore, the conceptual frame shows how variables are interlinked, how analysis will be carried out and how the subsequent model will look like.  In conclusion, the conceptual framework is not a form of fixed diagram but portrays the kind of analysis that will be or has been carried out in a study.","PeriodicalId":286383,"journal":{"name":"INTERDISCIPLINARY JOURNAL OF EDUCATION (IJE)","volume":"141 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116044214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was guided by three hypotheses; Ho1 there is no statistically significant correlation between management of study materials and curriculum implementation; Ho2 there is no statistically significant correlation between management of physical infrastructure and curriculum implementation and Ho3 there is no statistically significant correlation between school location and curriculum implementation. Correlational research design was used as empirical road map with a sample size of 110 respondents who participated in the study. A piloted self-constructed questionnaire tool was used to collect data. It was then analyzed using inferential statistical tool of Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient and also by descriptive statistics of frequencies and percentages. The findings revealed that there was a strong positive correlation between school location management and curriculum implementation (r = .50, n =110, p<.05). The study found that there was a positive moderate correlation between study materials and curriculum implementation (r = .34, n = 110, p<.05). It was also discovered that there was a positive moderate correlation between physical infrastructure and curriculum implementation (r = .40, n =110, p<.05). The study recommended that; the school administrators should ensure that available school equipment is effectively used to facilitate content delivery for effective learning. There should be candid use of available physical infrastructure to enhance innovations and creativity among the teaching staff and students. The Boards of Governors managing secondary schools in Bungokho County and government stakeholders should ensure that any constructed secondary schools in the area should strategically and geographically be well located with ease of access.","PeriodicalId":286383,"journal":{"name":"INTERDISCIPLINARY JOURNAL OF EDUCATION (IJE)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134127301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Applied knowledge led to the development of great civilizations. In Islam, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) used education to change the course of history. Even after his death, the Islamic civilization spread far and wide covering most parts of the world. The main element in the educational approach of prophet (SAW) was the development of spirituality. Through this, he converted the harshest Bedouin Arabs into an admirable generation. Morality became the foundation of society with brotherhood as the basis of individual responsibility towards one another. In doing so, the Prophet (SAW) endeavoured to impart practical knowledge that his disciples translated into a true appreciation of meaning of life, thereby transforming themselves and creating a civil society that became a model for generations to come. This paper is intended to unpack the education strategies and processes that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) used to transform human life and how Muslim scholars practiced and conveyed them to generation after generation until when the British introduced Western education leading to the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.","PeriodicalId":286383,"journal":{"name":"INTERDISCIPLINARY JOURNAL OF EDUCATION (IJE)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126985385","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ed dissertations at Islamic University in Uganda. A total of 530 reports were stratified according to specialisations and examiners from which a sample of 300 reports were randomly selected. Content and thematic analyses were conducted on the reports whose findings were interpreted using Bourke and Holbrook's (2013) indicators for assessment of Masters' thesis quality. Findings reveal that under Contribution, 'originality' attracted few comments which tended to be neutral, while 'substantive' and 'advancement of knowledge' tended to be inappropriately done. The Literature Review 'accuracy' and 'application' categories were among the most highly commented on, with most of them tending to be inappropriately done, while relatively few comments were made on literature coverage'. Under Approach/Methodology, 'research design' tended to be appropriately done while 'sampling', 'validity', and 'reliability' tended to be inappropriately done. In Analysis/Findings, 'quantitative data presentation' tended to be appropriately done, while 'qualitative data analysis' and 'interpretation' tended to be inappropriately done. Throughout the dissertation components, concerns on Presentation: 'communicative competence' and 'expression' were common. It is recommended that the university should engage Masters' students more in seminars and workshops on research methods and scholarly writing.","PeriodicalId":286383,"journal":{"name":"INTERDISCIPLINARY JOURNAL OF EDUCATION (IJE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129908792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve institutional competitiveness and repositioning on the world market all key players in the institutional development need to be on the same page in terms of organizational culture. A mammoth of studies have been done in the past to explore organizational culture structure but there were no attempts done to validate and measure the construct on employee behaviour and thoughts at the Islamic University in Uganda. The purpose of this study therefore is to measure and validate organisational construct as perceived by staff at the Islamic University in Uganda. The study employed four dimensions to examine organizational culture, and 361 staff through randomization participated in the study. To arrive at the intention of the study SEM-Amos technique of data analysis was used to confirm the hypothesized measurement model. The results indicated that meaningful value, support and promotion of values, discipline values and free style value are true and valid predictors of organizational culture structure.","PeriodicalId":286383,"journal":{"name":"INTERDISCIPLINARY JOURNAL OF EDUCATION (IJE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131210034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve this, literature were reviewed on recruitment and selection practices, current trends on recruitment and selection in Nigeria workplace, challenges and consequences of poor recruitment and selection practices, along with strategies for managing recruitment and selection in the Nigerian workplace. This study utilized Resource Based View and Equity Theory in order to build a solid argument for the discourse. Hence, this study concluded that recruiting right calibre of employee in the right position is sine qua non to organizational success. It is recommended that organizations in Nigeria should constantly ensure proper validity of recruitment and selection criteria in-line with global best practices so as to have a round peg in a round hole.","PeriodicalId":286383,"journal":{"name":"INTERDISCIPLINARY JOURNAL OF EDUCATION (IJE)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125878515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
