A total of 20 visually impaired individuals participated in the study. Ten participants were included in the karate group (5 boys, five girls) and 10 in the control group (6 boys, four girls). The karate group received karate training in addition to physical education classes one day a week for six weeks, while the control group only attended physical education classes and continued their daily lives. The study was collected with measurements made before and after the 6-week training. To evaluate the walking skills of the visually impaired individuals, a 10-meter walking test was performed on a walking line that could be felt on the soles of the feet, and the participants' 10-meter walking time, step length, and step number values were recorded. Before the measurements, the participants' parents were informed, and a consent form was obtained. SigmaPlot 11.0 program was used for data analysis. In the pre-and post-test comparisons, the Paired t-test was used for normally distributed data, and the Wilcoxon test was used for non-normally distributed data. A t-test was used for normally distributed data in comparing two independent groups, and the Mann Whitney-U Test was used for non-normally distributed data. According to the findings, there was no statistically significant difference between the 10 m walking pre-test results of the karate and control groups with and without glasses. The lumbar spine experiences the highest mechanical and weight bearing loads due to its close proximity to the centre of gravity in the human body. Low back discomfort is frequently brought on by herniated lumbar discs. Complete disc prolapse can be caused by a number of things, including severe injury, persistent strain, and weak core muscles. The study's objective was to establish a link between direction of a prolapsed intervertebral disc (PIVD) and lumbar vertebral alignment.This cross-sectional study included 102 participants with prolapsed intervertebral discs in the lumbar segment and lumbar vertebral mal-alignment of both sexes between the ages of 30 and 50 who had undergone MRI and X-ray for the lumbo-sacral spine. The Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) was used to assess outcome, MRI scans were used to determine the direction and amount of PIVD, and lumbar spinal alignment was assessed using X-rays in the AP and lateral views. SPSS version 23.0 was used for statistical analysis. The study found that 47% of 102 people aged 46-50 with PIVD were affected, with 68.62% at the L4-5 level and 42.2% at the L5-S1 level, with posterocentral and biforaminal locations being most common. The study group consisted of 300 children, the ages of which ranged between 12 and 16. The mean age of the children was 13.52 (SD=0.65). The results of both the Pearson correlation and bootstrapping indicated that game addiction and presenteeism had negative relationships with school engagement. Moreover, presenteeism was found to have a positive relationship with game addiction. Similar findings were uncovered in the regression analysis. According to the results, presenteeism is a trigger for game addiction and vice versa. Both presenteeism and game addiction are risk factors for school engagement. It can be said that presenteeism and game addiction must be reduced to increase school engagement. By doing so, dropping out of school and absenteeism can also be prevented. Therefore, this study aimed to comprehensively analyze the drama movie \"Concussion\" through Dr. Omalu's groundbreaking research lens. The study used semiotic analysis, a qualitative research method, to evaluate signifier-signified-sign and denotation-connotation in data analysis. In this context, The portraits of NFL, forensic pathologists, and team doctors were analyzed semiotically. The antecedents of athlete-rooted concussions and football participants' perceptions of American football were questioned. A study revealed that two phenomena become evident in the NLF's portrait: existential purpose and orientation toward threats. Another study result clarified that three main phenomena formed the portraits of the forensic pathologist and the team doctor: their behavior, mindset, and emotions. Research suggests that competition orientation is a leading factor for player-rooted concussion sequelae, characterized by the traits of war, hit, erase, fierceness, and endurance. Furthermore, American football was found to be depicted as a painful game that demands players' hardiness, winning will, awareness, strength, passion, forcefulness, and vigor. The connotation results maintained that American football is perceived as a battlefield, and a good footballer is interpreted as an assertive, resilient, aggressive, and challenging man overwhelming his opponents in any harsh way. In conclusion, the film invites viewers to consider how concussion affects football players and their families in the context of loss and trauma, how it inevitably exposes them to pain and death, and the struggle of a medical professional to prove a truth he has realized courageously.","PeriodicalId":286035,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Disabilities Sports & Health Sciences","volume":"27 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140257651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The gait cycle, initiating and concluding with a foot's heel hitting the ground, is essential for daily activities. Knee joint bears substantial load while walking. Total knee arthroplasty(TKA) is an effective surgical solution to relieve arthritis-related pain and enhance quality of life. Osteoarthritis can cause gait alterations due to pain and restricted motion, necessitating TKA. Changes in gait persist post-TKA; result inconsistencies suggest further investigation is needed. The knee is a crucial link in the body's kinetic chain, influencing the biomechanics of the hip, knee, and ankle joints as osteoarthritis progresses. Physiotherapy after TKA is essential for preventing complications, reducing pain, swelling, and restoring mobility. Typically, physiotherapy lasts for three months before transitioning to a home exercise regimen. However, patient adherence to long-term exercise protocols can be inconsistent. Therefore, studying gait parameter changes 1 year after TKA is crucial to assess long-term impacts. An observational study assessed 30 participants over 50 years of age for gait parameters such as cadence, step length, stride length, step width, speed, and knee flexion angle. The analysis showed that 36% of subjects experienced alterations in gait parameters 1 year after TKA, notably a significant reduction in knee flexion angle during the swing phase. This emphasizes the importance of continuing exercises and follow ups with healthcare providers including physiotherapist even after the physiotherapy sessions have ended, which typically occurs after 3-6 months.","PeriodicalId":286035,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Disabilities Sports & Health Sciences","volume":"46 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140257335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
