The suppressor effect of presenteeism in the relation between game addiction and school engagement among children
This study examined the suppressor effect of presenteeism on the relationships between game addiction and school engagement among children. The study group consisted of 300 children, the ages of which ranged between 12 and 16. The mean age of the children was 13.52 (SD=0.65). The results of both the Pearson correlation and bootstrapping indicated that game addiction and presenteeism had negative relationships with school engagement. Moreover, presenteeism was found to have a positive relationship with game addiction. Similar findings were uncovered in the regression analysis. According to the results, presenteeism is a trigger for game addiction and vice versa. Both presenteeism and game addiction are risk factors for school engagement. It can be said that presenteeism and game addiction must be reduced to increase school engagement. By doing so, dropping out of school and absenteeism can also be prevented. The results of the study were analysed in relation to existing literature and recommendations were formulated.
